Climate Change
and its impacts on Vietnam
• Vietnam is one of the countries in the world that are most vulnerable by climate change, because the country has more than 3000 islands, 3260km seashore and 1million km2 territorial waters.
• Forecast of sea level rise: to 2050 increase 33 cm, to 2100 increase 1m. In case of sea level to raise 1 meter, it’s impacts on 40% agriculture area, 90% population of Mekong Delta and GDP will be decrease 10%.
• According to Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) in the last 50 years average temperature in Vietnam increased 0,7 deg C and sea level raised about 20 cm.

Energy Consumption in Vietnam
• Industrial and industry consumers are two dominant electricity use sectors in Vietnam, with industry consuming 48% of the total.
• Commercial, Public (buildings) and Residential sector electricity use was reported at 51%.
• In Vietnam the main industries uses 15%-50%; the average building uses at last 25% energy more than needed.
• Electricity consumption for lighting is 25.3%.
• Electricity demand is forecast to be increasing much higher than the supply. ( Source: MOIT)

Government Activities
1. In the last years, Vietnam Government ratify :
- Mitigation and Adaptation of climate change National
Program
- Energy Conservation and Efficiency Program (EECP)
- Cleaner Production Strategy in Industry up to 2020
- Circular on limits of toxic proportions in electronic products
2. Create policies, incentives for Green IT initiatives:
- Encourage production and consumption of eco-products;
- Promote application and transfer of environmentally sound technologies, low GHG emissions, low carbon.
Green IT Application
1. Use IT solution and Embedded System for
energy saving in manufacturing enterprises.
2. Use Efficient Lighting Control System in Public
Lighting and buildings.
3. Use sensors ( Infra red detector, movement
detector, daylight sensor…) and Control
system in buildings and family houses
4. Country wide change CRT monitor with LCD
monitor; light bulb with energy saving lamp.
E-Waste Treatment
•E-waste increase rapidly
•E-waste recycling is
concentrated in the informal
sector
•No organized collection
system prevails
•Operations are mostly
illegal, manual and
processes are highly
polluting
