Throughout the entire novel the central meaning of the color green is hope. This is proven by the three quotes that link the color green to Gatsby and Daisy, Gatsby’s hope for a better tomorrow, and to “James Gatz”. All these of these quotes express the hope that Gatsby acquired for the future. Therefore, the color green symbolizes hope which inevitably makes the theme hope, maybe even a negative look on hope and how it can end badly no matter what you hope for.
