With spring break starting next week, NSU’s Panhellenic and Interfraternity Council had a Night in with Greek Life to educate alcohol awareness to students.

“Our goals for this event are to create a fun environment that students can learn about different tips on having a safe spring break, also while bringing awareness to alcohol abuse,” said Rosa Galvan, Panhellenic vice president.

The event was March 12 night from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. and while the time confused some students, the reason being had a great deal on the matter.

“It is prime time for going out,” said Tabytha Russell, Muskogee sophomore. “These are the times people generally go out and drink and we wanted to give our students a night where they had another option to go and not have to drink and to have fun.”

When a student comes to college, it could be the first time they go out and do things without their parents on spring break and this event made students aware of what all can happen with alcohol abuse and tips on how to avoid getting into a bad situation.

“This event is a great idea because NSU carries a bad reputation for being a party school,” said Steven English, Broken Arrow senior. “It is important for college students to realize that you don’t have to be drinking to have a good time and that’s why events like this need to happen more often.”

The event was funded by Panhellenic and IFC and drinks and pizza were free to students, as well as some winning prizes such as a GoPro, underwater camera, a spring break pack and more.
