Dear Parent or Carer, Your child is taking part in The Rhyme Challenge! The Rhyme Challenge is a great way to learn rhymes and poems in school, and then share them at home with you and other members of the family. They have brought home a rhyme sheet to keep so you can enjoy reading and reciting them together. Rhymes and poems help children feel confident with words, and help them to speak and listen. They also support learning to read and most importantly, they are fun! Sharing the Rhyme Challenge at home is one way to encourage your child to enjoy reading. Time to Read Research shows that a child who reads for pleasure will do better at school, even in subjects like maths. Reading together with your child is also a special bonding experience. Making time to read as often as you can, whether that’s reciting rhymes in the kitchen or sharing stories before bedtime, will help your child develop a lifetime love of reading. You can read anything so long as it’s fun! You don’t have to only read in English, if that’s not your first language. Reading a favourite story or poem again and again helps build their confidence and enjoyment – it doesn’t matter how hard or easy it is. Why not share tales and rhymes you remember from when you were a child? Just ten minutes a day makes a difference. For ideas and tips about the magic of sharing books, stories and rhymes with your child, visit booktrust.org.uk Don’t forget you can also visit your local library to choose new books together you will both enjoy, or ask your child’s teacher for suggestions. Dear Parent or Carer,

Your child is taking part in The Rhyme Challenge!

Time to ReadResearch shows that a child who reads for pleasure will do better at school, even in subjects like maths.
