Great Gatsby Chapter 7 Notes 10/30/11

-Trimalchio: Trimalchio is a character in the Roman novel The Satyricon by

Petronius. He is a freedman who through hard work and perseverance has

attained power and wealth. He is also known for throwing lavish dinner

parties, where his numerous servants bring course after course of exotic

delicacies.

-Daisy and Jordan’s argument. What was it exactly that made Jordan

burst like that? Was it that Daisy had been leading both Tom and Jay

on, hurting both of them at the same time? Or was it Daisy in her

persistence to get Nick and Jordan together?

-Daisy brings up that fact that her daughter looks more like her to

further distance herself from Tom.

Last paragraph on 118…

-Daisy seems much more emotional when she’s around Tom and

Gatsby. Why does she keep doing this to herself? She’s hurting

them and her. She should go with Gatsby and run away.

-Wilson and Tom both figured out around the same time that their

wives were cheating on them. Daisy’s is more understandable

though. Tom treated her horribly and cheated on her first for no

reason other than to have a mistress. Daisy is in love with Gatsby.

- Significance of Nick remembering his birthday.
