We have made huge impact on the ground, especially with the communities at PPR Ampangan and PPR Jalan Sungai, and we continue to work with all at MPPP and MPSP to institutionalise GRB processes and practices. Happy GRB 2014! One thing to get excited about is the Asian Regional Conference we are hosting here in Penang. It will be at the Bayview Hotel Georgetown Penang on February 24th and 25th and will bring together leading GRB practitioners from all over the region and beyond. The Conference is entitled “Gender Responsive Budgeting Narratives: Transforming Institutions , Empowering Communities” and will centre on the role of GRB in helping us understand budget impacts and potentially opening up budget processes to be more participatory and inclusive. This will reflect the innovations, challenges and achievements of the GRB project here in Penang. There will be seven sessions, with discussions to cover Critical Reflections on GRB from around the globe; GRB and its role in Community Participation and Empowerment; the contribution of GRB Tools to budget analysis and gender equality; how to institutionalise GRB in State and Local Governments ; and taking GRB forward in Penang and across the region. OUR GRB PROJECT The GRB project operates as part of the Penang Women’s Development Corporation, a state-financed company under the State Exco for Youth & Sports, Women, Family and Community Development. OUR FIVE OUTPUTS The GRB Project has set out 5 outputs to be implemented over a three year period. Welcome to the 6th edition of our GRB e-zine.

We have now completed the second year of our GRB Pilot Project and there is lots to celebrate.

OUR GRB PROJECTThe GRB project operates as part of the Penang Women’s Development Corporation, a state-financed company under the State Exco for Youth & Sports, Women, Family and Community Development.

OUR FIVE OUTPUTSThe GRB Project has set out 5 outputs to be implemented over a three year period. These are as follows:

OUTPUT 1: Working with officers and departments in the local authorities, to create a supportive environment for GRB.

OUTPUT 2: Undertaking community-based pilot projects on the island and mainland.

OUTPUT 3: Helping assess and optimise the use of data in planning policy and budgets.

OUTPUT 4: Providing training and capacity development to the range of our partners.

OUTPUT 5: Increased public awareness and participation in LA budgeting
