The Sydney-exclusive exhibition, Grayson Perry: My Pretty Little Art Career, will be held at the MCA as part of the Sydney International Art Series. Citi Country Officer, Stephen Roberts, said: “After bringing the work of American artist Chuck Close from New York to Sydney in 2014, we are pleased to partner again with the MCA to bring yet another internationally acclaimed artist to our shores, Grayson Perry. “Citi prides itself on bringing the best of the world to Australia, as well as fostering new ideas and creativity in the cities in which we operate which is why supporting this exhibition is a natural fit for us. Grayson is one of the UK’s leading thinkers on the society in which we live. The themes he explores, as well as the detail and vibrancy of his work, all contribute to an exhibition which will be both engaging and thought-provoking.” Grayson Perry is acclaimed for his ceramics, sculptures in iron and bronze, drawings, prints and ambitious, large-scale tapestries which chronicle contemporary life and society. Various themes are explored through his multi-faceted practice including the history of taste and social class in Britain, religious and folk iconography, and representations of sexuality and masculinity. In 2003, the artist was the recipient of the prestigious Turner prize. In 2011, he held a record-breaking exhibition at The British Museum, Grayson Perry: The Tomb of the Unknown Craftsman, combining his own works with historical artefacts from the museum.

Sydney, 26 August 2015: Citi will sponsor the first major exhibition in the southern hemisphere of the works of award-winning British artist Grayson Perry.

The themes he explores, as well as the detail and vibrancy of his work, all contribute to an exhibition which will be both engaging and thought-provoking.”

Grayson Perry is acclaimed for his ceramics, sculptures in iron and bronze, drawings, prints and ambitious, large-scale tapestries which chronicle contemporary life and society.

Grayson has made numerous television appearances, hosting his own Channel 4 series In the Best Possible Taste – Grayson Perry in 2012, then Grayson Perry: Who Are You?, which aired on the ABC in Australia in May this year. Grayson delivered The Reith Lectures, BBC Radio 4’s annual flagship talk series by leading international thinkers, to widespread critical acclaim in 2013. Today he is a trustee of The British Museum and a Royal Academician.

MCA Director, Elizabeth Ann Macgregor OBE, said the MCA was delighted to welcome Citi as a Presenting Partner again this year. “We simply could not have brought Grayson’s work to Australia without the support of Citi. The generous patronage of our sponsors is crucial to arts organisations, and adds considerably to the rich diversity of cultural life in our country,” she said.

“Grayson Perry is one of the best-known British artists of his generation. With his flamboyant, accessible aesthetic which blurs the division of high art and popular culture, his appeal extends beyond the art world. We are thrilled to be welcoming him and his work for the first time in the region, and expect the exhibition to be very popular in Australia,” Macgregor added.

Grayson Perry: My Pretty Little Art Career is open from 10 December, 2015 to 1 May 2016. Grayson Perry will be present in Sydney for opening events and deliver a keynote lecture to introduce the exhibition.

Citi partnered with the MCA in the summer of 2014 to bring the work of American artist Chuck Close to Sydney from New York, also as part of the Sydney International Art Series. It was a major success, with over 80,000 visitors to the exhibition.
