Hello everyone! As we close out the school year 2018-2019, allow me to take a moment to thank all PTA Officers, parents, teachers, and volunteers for an amazing year. Your support allowed us to offer an action-packed year filled with many new and exciting events.

We started the year with a team building activity, since majority of officers are “newbie” to PTA. There were light physical exercises and orientation about the importance of being a good parent and being part of the school’s PTA. Miriam College Nuvali is celebrating its 5th of year operation in Laguna. In line with this, annual Family Day theme was “MCiNco na Tayo, Sama-sama Buong Pamilya” which was held last November 11, 2018 at the MCN building 2 ground. The festive event was a success! The venue was transformed from a plain ground to a colorful and inviting place. Each grade level showcased different dance interpretation based on local festivals. The PTA had memorable “first-time” events – having two successful movie block screenings, a “play date” for children sponsored by KidZoona at Ayala Mall Solenad and the enjoyable “Christmas Caroling” by PTA officers. We also had a Basic Life Support seminar entitled “Learning to Save a Life” wherein both parent and child have experienced to apply CPR on mannequins. PTA also made sure to have a short but sweet Teacher’s day celebration. And before the year ended, PTA had the Medical, Dental Mission with Feeding Program at Brgy. Mangumit, Canlubang Laguna.

Serving as the PTA President for Cluster 1 of Miriam College Nuvali for a year has allowed me to meet so many people that truly care about our students. A few months ago, I was terrified to take on this position. But because of the support and trust of everyone in the group, I became more confident to take on this responsibility. In fact, I actually love and enjoyed every minute I spent with the PTA Cluster 1. It has been a pleasure working with the PTA Cluster 1 Executive Board of Directors and Officers for 2018-19. They are fun, creative, and diverse group of people who continually want the best for Miriam College Nuvali students. Thank you all for supporting our fundraisers, for coming to our events, and for volunteering your time. Thanks to you we have accomplished so much and making the MCN PTA Cluster 1 a successful one. Together, we definitely achieved more! And last but not the least, a big thank you goes out to our Assistant to the President for MCN, Mrs. Cynthia O. Morales, who guides me being a newbie to this field, to Ms, Joy Corsiga, who encouraged me to accept the role of being the PTA President for Cluster 1, to Ms. Ruby Magsino, for the support she gives in all PTA activities and to Ms. Kamille Carls, who diligently assists me and the whole PTA Cluster 1 in all our needs. To our adviser Ayi Conde, though she’s not always visible but her assistance can be felt. It has been a privilege to work with all of you. I leave the position of PTA President for Cluster 1 believing that it will be in good hands as long as there is faith and heart of a team. I look forward to an even brighter next school year...onwards and upwards...Congratulations TEAM PTA Cluster 1 2018-2019!!

PTA INDUCTION COMMENCES HOME-SCHOOL COLLABORATION

As Miriam College Nuvali started its 5th year of providing quality education and strengthening home-school collaboration, its doors continued to welcome students as well as their parents whose dedication for service is incomparable.

MCN held its PTA Induction Ceremonies last July 30, 2018. The administrators headed by Mrs. Cynthia O. Morales, Assistant to the President for Miriam College Nuvali; faculty, staff, and the newly elected PTA officers were present at the institutional event. Ms. Christine Joy Corsiga, Assistant Principal for First Step to Grade 4, welcomed everyone with her warm opening remarks.

An inspirational Scripture Reading about Christ’s Example of Humility was shared which emphasized counting others more significant than oneself and being humble by becoming obedient. Thus, the PTA officers humbly took an oath to do their duties and responsibilities for the betterment of their children, the school, and the activities ahead.

In behalf of the PTA officers, Mrs. Maria Victoria Baradas, PTA-Cluster 1 President wholeheartedly accepted the tasks and responsibilities bequeathed through an optimistic and inspirational acceptance speech she delivered.

The administrators, faculty, and staff concluded the event by serenading the parents with a song entitled Umagang Kay Ganda which conveyed a beautiful message about positive thinking and working together to be able to achieve a dream.

MC NUVALI CELEBRATES 5TH YEAR WITH A HIGH FIVE

To give a high five usually means to congratulate someone on a triumph or success. Miriam College Nuvali is giving out a high five as it celebrates its fifth-year founding anniversary of continuously growing and nurturing new students in the south and thriving amid a new landscape.

Located inside the modern Ayala Land Development in Laguna, MC Nuvali has shown a steady growth since it opened in school year 2014-2015. From offering just four levels, it now offers an entire basic education program from preschool to senior high school.

The vision was for Miriam College to expand and serve families in the emerging growth areas south of Manila while continuing to champion the same academic excellence and values in its Quezon City campus.

A historical move for Miriam College as an institution was opening its doors to both boys and girls in MC Nuvali.

“For the past 92 years, Miriam College focused on ‘forming women leaders in service’ to quote our tagline. So, when we opened MC Nuvali, we had to face the challenge of creating a holistic program that impacted both boys and girls,” Assistant to the President for MC Nuvali Cynthia Morales said.

I believe we have been successful as our enrollment shows an increasing number of boys and we currently have a 60-40 ratio of girls to boys,” she added.

The word “high” in High 5 is an acronym representing the direction to which MC Nuvali continues to steer its students — Happy, Innovative, God Loving, and Holistic. It also represents the trajectory the campus has taken in the past five years, showing an exponential increase from just over a hundred students when it opened in 2014 with close to 800 this school year.

To accommodate new students for school year 2018-2019, a second 4,000 square meter building was launched this year. A spacious courtyard at the center shows the school’s emphasis on play for the group age it serves — preschool to grade four. The building was designed by Rchitects Inc. led by Jose Pedro “Bong” Recio.

“The building is especially designed to address the needs of 21st century learners where classroom layout encourages innovation, collaboration, and creativity,” Miriam College President Dr. Rosario O. Lapus said.

In the pipeline are new structures that respond to the growing needs of the students, including another covered court for the sports needs of its students and another building dedicated to high school students.

The first building, now occupied by Grades 5-12, was designed by Dan Lichauco of Archion Architects and includes a chapel with an Ana Pamintuan cross sculpture at the altar.

Miriam College Nuvali is covered by a 10-year development plan starting with the basic education that is now K to 12 ready. Short-term ladderized programs will be introduced to complement the basic education program. Construction on the 15-hectare lot will be in phases, with special emphasis on an environmentally sustainable school that is safe and conducive to living and learning.

Apart from its campuses in Quezon City and Nuvali, Miriam

College will soon put up a third one in Porac, Pampanga, also

in partnership with Ayala Land Inc.

TEACHING KIDS ABOUT ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Kiddo + Preneur Christmas 2018

It’s never too early to begin thinking about the future and, for

the business savvy kids of Miriam College Nuvali, joining

the school’s Kiddiepreneur Club last school year was a

good start to channel the future Bill Gates or Mary Barra in

them. Whether being businessminded is their inborn nature

or influenced by environmental factors and heritable traits

from their entrepreneurial parents, the kids surely enjoyed

and learned a lot from their entrepreneurship class about

developing their creativity, accepting failures and trying

again, thinking differently, and working hard to appreciate

the value of money.

On December 01-02, 2018, armed with their learnings,

ideas and products, the MCN Kiddieprenuers participated in

the second leg of Kiddo + Preneur Christmas 2018 event in

Uptown Mall BGC, joining other young entrepreneurs ages

5-17 from different schools in Metro Manila. The goals of the

event were to capitalize on the traditional spending bonanza

over the holiday season and promote entrepreneurship

among the Filipino youth. The MCN Kiddiepreneurs were

headed by their mentor, Mrs. Jocelyn Santos, and strongly

supported by their loving parents who were there for them

from the start of conceptualization process to the very last

minute the event ended—giving the participants a boost on

their self- esteem and providing guidance in every step of

the way.

The booth showcases Laguna’s rich culture and unique

products, like fresh buco and buco juice (young coconut),

pastillas, polvoron, native corn and, of course, the

nation-renowned (if not the world) and most sought after

Laguna buco pie, The MCN Kiddiepreneurs took their turns

for two days (with morning and afternoon shifts) in manning

their booth and selling their products to the mall goers and

event visitors. They even went to the extent of door to door

selling, canvassing inside the mall from one establishment

to another with the guidance of their parents, to offer their

products to the mall tenants and their employees and

customers.

All the hard work definitely paid off for MCN Kiddiepreneurs.

On the first day of the event, they bagged the “Best Booth

Design” award; the simple yet refreshing design with the

elements of nature, which Laguna is abundant with, did not

go unnoticed to the judges. And in the end, they were able

to get their investment back and earn a good profit that they

have divided among themselves.

More than the award and profit however, it was great for

these young minds to experience conceptualizing their

business, setting up and decorating their booths, talking to

customers, applying basic subtraction and addition when

they distribute change and, essentially, earning their own

money! As one of the supportive parents of these

kiddiepreneurs, I do think that it's vital to encourage the

entrepreneurial spirit in children.

A Big Myth-Understanding – a SMALL FOOT Special Movie

Block Screening

The MCN Parent-Teacher Association 2018-19 Cluster 1 held its first

special movie block screening activity, utilizing the movie SMALL

FOOT, last October 06, 2018 at Solenad Cinemas in Nuvali.

The activity was strongly supported by the students and parents –

with more than 500 tickets sold, which covered 3 cinemas.

“We have chosen to utilize the animated movie Small Foot - for our

very first block screening – the movie is about a community of Yetis or

Bigfoots whose world gets complicated when Migo, the main

character, discovers something that he did not know existed, an

exciting story about discovery – which is a good opportunity to be

experienced together by the students, parents and teachers.” says

Ms. Cookie Baradas, MCN PTA 2018-19 President.

Income generated from the activity will be used to fund more

upcoming activities of the MCN Parent-Teacher Association Cluster 1.

MCN PTA Cluster 1 returns with LEGO 2! After its “Small Foot” screening last October 06, 2018, the Miriam College Nuvali Parent-Teacher Association Cluster 1 launched another special movie block screening with THE LEGO MOVIE 2, held February 16, 2019 in Solenad Cinemas in Nuvali, The movie screening was attended by 200 participants, ranging from students, teachers, friends and families – who took the opportunity, just like a Lego – to get combined for an awesome weekend! The LEGO MOVIE 2 is a follow up from the first movie five years ago. The movie introduces a new threat faced by the citizens of Bricksburg – with the arrival of the LEGO DUPLO, invaders from outer space.

“We have repeated this activity, in view of the very positive experience we had during our first special movie block screening held last year. We encourage the succeeding PTA officers to continue and establish this as an activity to look forward to, once or twice a year. The activity will also help provide additional support in terms of funding MCN PTA related activities, particularly the medical mission by the team in the coming months,” says Paolo Almeida, Cluster 1 Treasurer
