Dear Parents/Carers
Welcome back to term 4 and more importantly welcome back to school. I would like to
thank all parents and carers for their efforts last term during the Learning from home
period and commend the great work completed.
We are so happy to be back at school this week and by the look on the faces of both our
students and their parents it seems they too are delighted to be back. The children joined
their classmates and eagerly engaged in class activities on Tuesday. We are excited for the
term ahead and I am certain we will see tremendous growth over the next 11 weeks.
This term the school will be working hard in providing valued lessons to all students as
well as moving into the final reporting cycle later in the term. Parents will expect to see
an adapted report recognising the Learning from home period.
COVID regulations have lead to the cancellation by the School Sports Unit of all School
PSSA knockout competitions as well as the cancellation of all state representative
sporting championships. Our students are disappointed however I am sure our school will
again be prominent in all sporting fields next year.
Unfortunately the School Spectacular has also been cancelled for 2021 due to the
concern of having children from across the state coming together in Sydney. Again, we will
be hoping to be involved in 2022.
The school grounds look amazing to return to
school and I must highlight the finished Dry
Creek Bed Garden that truly looks amazing.
Congratulations to the entire team with special
call outs to Shane and Anthony for their
continual high quality work. A special thank you
also should go to Andrew Mellis for his original
artistic plan that was made a reality. I am sure
the children will enjoy this wonderful feature of
the school for years to come.
The Tournament Of Minds (conducted electronically) team had a wonderful time representing OPS and the Western
Region at the State Finals. During the day the children were presented a difficult question, “What would be a major
catastrophe if the colour Red disappeared?” The team was given only 15 minutes to come up with an idea to
represent this problem and had to present their plan and solution to the question. This was linked to the field of
literature, as that was the category the team had progressed through with, to the State finals.
During judging the team were commended for their structure and teamwork. The competition across the state was
exceptionally high and although we did not place in the finals the experience was wonderful and greatly appreciated
by the students, staff and families involved. The students involved included Noah, Milo, Sam, Grace, Chaitra, Niamh
and Poppy. Congratulations to all students and a huge thank you to Miss Konza, Mr McDonald and Mrs Peschka.
I would like to share a wonderful moment
that I experienced this week during a visit
to Mrs Felice’s class, 2M. In this class is a
young man named Lucas Ghosn. On
entering the room Lucas jumped to his
feet and said with overwhelming
excitement that he had something for
me. He raced to his desk and charged
back to present me with a sealed
envelope. He proceeded to tell me that
he will catch up with me to sort the
details, once I’ve read the letter. I have
included the letter in this newsletter as I
was so impressed with his effort,
approach and personal drive. I hope
everyone enjoys reading it as much as I
did. Look out Rupert Murdoch.
Our school canteen will be opening next week with online orders available.
Over the next few weeks Mrs Powell will be commencing the SRC nomination process for 2022. Children will be given
the opportunity to present a short speech. We are looking forward to seeing students step forward in these
leadership roles.
Finally, I would like to thank our school community once again for the way in which we managed through the last few
months. Congratulations OPS, again it is easy to see why so many families love our school and community.
Enjoy the week.
