Graphing Using x & y Intercepts
Algebra Honors
Finding the x & y intercepts.
Write the equation in standard form first
Ax + By = C
To find the x – intercept~ where the graph crosses the x-axis ~
2 Methods: Pick one.1st Method: Cover up the y term and solve for x.
2x + 3y = 62x = 6x = 3
2nd Method: Plug in 0 for y and solve for x. 2x + 3y = 6
2x + 3(0) = 6 2x = 6
x = 3
To find the y – intercept~ where the graph crosses the y-axis ~
2 Methods: Pick one.1st Method: Cover up the x term and solve for y.
2x + 3y = 63y = 6y = 2
2nd Method: Plug in 0 for x and solve for y. 2x + 3y = 6
2(0) + 3y = 6 3y = 6
y = 2
