Achieved grade boundary and also some issues relating to the Achieved / Merit grade boundary.• The work shows application of the design process (required for all grade levels) i.e. research, concepts, design

development, on-going evaluation, final presentation, final evaluation. There is evidence of appropriate design language that is linked to the target market and functional design issues of the product. The depth of the language used limits this to the Not Achieved / Achieved boundary. The evaluation would need to link more to the design specifications to access the Merit and Excellence grade areas.

• There is a good selection of modes, media and presentation methods used, however the presentation skills shown throughout the portfolio are inconsistent, whilst there are some good skills evident, the requirement to show ‘good skills’ for Merit should be consistent across the selected modes, media and presentation methods. For this standard, students are expected to select presentation skills that may include;

• precision, accuracy of layout, neatness and tidiness, effectiveness, execution of techniques, composition, use of negative space, typography. (See explanatory note 10) Further guidance for the depth and accuracy of drawing skills can be found in Graphics Education, Guidelines for Years 9-13. At Level 2, “students should be able to show well-developed skills in a range of instrumental drawings.” Professional judgement should be used to determine if a student has produced evidence that aligns with the Graphics objectives. The final isometric drawing does not represent ‘well developed skills’ and this standard of final drawing would be closer to the Not Achieved grade boundary.
