Graphic Display Devices

Graphic Display devices can be input or output.

Input Display Device A device used to provide data to an information processing system, allowing you to

interact with it, such as Computer, is known as Input Display Device.

Types of Input Devices

1. Keyboard – a device mostly used to enter text strings and short cuts to many functions

and also used to provide screen coordinates, menu selection, gaming controls and for

entering many graphics function.

2. Mouse – hand held box used to position the screen cursor and to select one or more

action to take from the position of the cursor

3. Barcode reader – a barcode reader is a hardware device capable of reading a barcode. It

can also print out the details of the product or log information about that product into a

database. A perfect example of a barcode reader is a super market barcode scanner that

reads and logs the price of a product.

4. Biometrics (like Fingerprint Scanner)

5. Image Scanner – in computing a scanner is a device that scans images, printed texts etc. it

recorded the gray scale of colors while scanning.

6. Stylus or Pen

7. Magnetic Strip Reader - a hardware device that reads the information encoded in the

magnetic stripe located on the back of a plastic badge

8. X – Ray (Medical Imaging device)

Output Display Device A Device used to display result on screen when processing gets completed is known as

Output Display Device.

Types of output display devices

1. Monitor

2. Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) – just like a monitor display device with low energy

consumption, and smaller and lighter.

3. Printer - Printers are used to produce paper (commonly known as hardcopy) output

4. Plotter - The plotter uses pens to write on paper and is usually used for engineering

drawings.

5. Projector

6. Raster Scan Displays - Treat screen as matrix of pixels and combine combinations of

pixels to create characters, lines, shapes, etc. Electron gun fires electrons at screen row by

row
