GRAPHIC DESIGN PROJECTSELF PORTRAIT COMIC BOOK STYLE, WEB PAGE BUTTONS & LOGO

Graphic design is a creative process most often involving a client and a designer and traditionally completed in conjunction with producers of form (i.e., printers, signmakers, etc.) Graphic design is usually undertaken in order to convey a specific message (or messages) to a targeted audience.  Today graphic designers may now apply their work directly to websites, eliminating the need for an item to be mass produced.

Various methods are used to create and combine words, symbols, and images to create a visual representation of ideas and messages.

A graphic designer may use a combination of typography, visual arts and page layout techniques to produce the final result.

Common uses of graphic design include identity (logos and branding), publications (magazines, newspapers and books), advertisements and product packaging. For example, a product package might include a logo or other artwork, organized text and pure design elements such as shapes and color which unify the piece.

You will be learning about a couple of  artists, Roy Lichtenstein & Andy Warhol, and their  various types of work, specifically their Comic Book style.  This particular style is what we will be focusing on.  There are several web addresses listed below.   Please take a look at  them prior to beginning your work on your cartoon face.

3. Log into a Mac mini and open the folder on the cloud where you saved your photo.

4. Open Adobe Photoshop Elements and drag the photo onto the new file.

5. Save your work immediately into the folder that you created for step 1. Name it your name and be sure that the suffix .psd is after your name.

4a. You must now complete a line art outline of your portrait before adding colors. To do this you need to add a New Layer and use the brush tool as a pencil to do a line art tracing of your features and an outline of the rest of the portrait. Once you have completed the line art tracing you can move on to the next page and pick back up with the tutorial.

ALERT!!! Anywhere you see to use “ctrl” use “command” instead, as you are using a mac not a windows machine for this project.
