Dear GVS Families,
I hope that everyone was able to stay warm this frigid week! I hope that we have a January thaw soon!
Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment:This week I had the opportunity to review all 244 GVS student report cards. I was struck by the number ofstudents who earned all 4’s for “Work Habits” and “Citizenship.” Because student achievement is directlyconnected to a student’s attitude and approach toward work, these areas are extremely important to develop. Iwould like to recognize the following students who earned all 4’s in these categories:
Grade 1: Hannah Paddock, Raiyah Babinsky, Brianna Hastings, and Mackenzie RayGrade 2: Nicholas Brill, Wesley Johnson, Matthew Neu, Ryan Neu, and Abigail RipleyGrade 3: Raygan Duryee, Isabella Hastings, Isabella Allbee, Alex Blish, Ella Gessner, Wesley Humphrey,Francesca McCarthy, and Brooke WeinmanGrade 4: John Bieszczad, Seth Carl, Helen Feldhaus, Stephen Miller, Emma Ask, Griffin Auch, AlexaBonenfant, Zoe Chinn, Caitlyn Moeykens, Silas Nowlan, and Erin PanellaMalleyGrade 5: Trey Chickering, Sam Hanks, Karsten Hansen, Luna Pompei, and Andrea RentelGrade 6: Quinn Beek, Allison Carl, Caroline Laramie, Eric Gessner, Kirsten Ask, Anna Hill, Caitlin McHugh,Amalia Neu, Sam McFadden, Julie Sentman, Owen RitzWilliamson, and Astrid Rentel.

Stop Motion Photography: This week the students in Kim Johnson’s fourth grade class finished their stopmotion photography projects and shared them with parents and students. The students used iPads to create shortmovies about different events from their study of the American Revolution. Students began by researching theevent and then developed a script. They created back drops and props. Then they took 150 200 photographsmoving the props slightly for each picture. Once they had finished the video they added the audio track. Hereare a few photos from their parent night:
Board Games: We have had sooooo many indoor recess days (and it looks like more to come) that studentsare looking for some different board games to play. If you have any board games that you would like to donate,we would appreciate having them!
