TIPS FOR SUCCESS

Page 10: Grant success

REQUEST FOR APPLICATION• Read and reread the RFA• This has all the information

about the grant and what we will need from you when applying

Page 11: Grant success

APPLICATION • Read through once before starting to fill out

• Note application due date• Find out which schools are eligible and what exactly you can ask for

• Gather everything you need to complete it• Use a checklist• Call or email me with any questions• Follow directions for filling out application

• Example “Sign in blue ink”

Page 12: Grant success

DUE DATE AND DEADLINES• Aim to have applications in several

days before the due date in case something is missing

• No exceptions…we cannot accept an application or pieces of the application after the due date

Page 13: Grant success

NARRATIVE QUESTIONS• Most of the applications have a couple

narrative questions• This is a chance to give more detail and

explain how and why you need and will use the funds

• Write for review, not for you• More subjective section to set your

application apart from the others• If submitting multiple site applications…

• Make each answer individual to that site if possible

• Try and not to copy and paste the same answers for every site

Page 14: Grant success

SCORING RUBRIC

• We post the rubric and criteria we use to score and judge applications.

• A cheat sheet for you!• Can’t do much about

objective measures• FRL %• # of students/size of

school• But narrative questions is

where you can make up points

Page 15: Grant success

COMMON MISTAKES• Forms missing

• Example: Equipment grant forms• School kitchen info sheet• SFA contact info form

• Signature not in blue ink• Sections left blank• Missed deadlines

Page 16: Grant success

THINGS TO REMEMBER• Proof read your application and any forms that you are sending

• Have someone else read through it to make sure everything is clear, makes sense, and to catch any errors

• Read any narrative sections out loud to yourself• Do not wait until the last minute to work on and submit application

• Set calendar reminders to help you complete the application on time• Run through the checklist before submitting
