Introduction

ThisbookletcontainstheperformanceobjectivesfortheAAPlusGrandparentstockandistobeusedinconjunctionwiththeAAGrandparentStockManagementGuide.

Poultryproductionisaglobalactivity,butacrosstheworldtherearedifferingmanagementstrategiesadaptedtolocalconditions.Theperformanceobjectivesgivenhereareforbirdsthatreceivethefirstlightstimulationafter21weeks(147days+)ofage.

Achievingthegeneticpotentialofthebirdsdependson:

• Managementtoprovidebirdswiththeirrequiredenvironment.

• Adietaryregimethatprovidestheappropriatenutrients.

• Effectivebiosecurityanddiseasecontrol.

Ifanyoneof theseelements issub-optimal,performancewill suffer. The threesectors -environment,nutritionandhealth-arealsointerdependent;aprobleminanyoneareawillresultinanegativeresponsebythebirdtotheotherfactors.

Data containedwithin thisbooklet indicates theperformance that canbeachievedundergood management and environmental conditions and should therefore be regarded as“PerformanceObjectives”andnotspecifications.

TheArborAcresPlusisavailableintwooptions,onewhichproducesfeather-sexablebroilersandonethatproducesallfast-featheringbroilers.

Thefeathersexableoption,TheAAPlusS,producesfast-featheringfemalebroilersandslow-featheringmalebroilers.Thisallowsbroilerstobesexedinthehatcherybyevaluatingrelativefeatherdevelopment.

Thefast-featheringoption,TheAAPlusFF,producesbroilersthatareallfast-feathering.Theycannotbesexedinthehatcherybyevaluatingfeatherdevel-opmentbecausebothmalesandfemalesaregeneticallyfast-feathering.

Grandparentfemalesforbothtypesareverysimilar.Theyshouldhavethesamegrowthprofile, and require thesame feeding regimenand theireggproductionshouldbethesame.

Itisimportanttomanagethebreederssotheydonotcomeintoproductiontooearly.Iftheyreach5-10%productionpriorto25weeksofageearlyeggsizewillbereduced,resultinginsmallerchicks.

Dailyeggproduction,feedclean-upandbodyweightsshouldbeevaluatedonadailybasisfrom5%productionthroughpostpeakproductionandfeedamountsadjustedappropriately.

TheArborAcresPlusisayieldtypebroilerbreederthatbenefitsgreatlyinperformancefromtheuseofenvironmentallycontrolledhousing(ventilation,temperatureandlight).
