Grandpa & MikeArt, Labor, and Friendship in Rural Nevada

Meleah Smith draws on the relationship between Michael Heizer and her family to describe the role of the laborer and the local community in the realization of the land artist’s vision. Highlighting some unlikely personal connections, she demonstrates the use of oral histories in the preservation of Nevada’s past, and presents a new view of City from the perspective of the hands that are helping to build it.
