Across Campus COT Contract Creates Job-Share Positions

Representatives of Grand Valley and the Clerical Office and Technical Association (COTA) agreed to a new contract beginning February 16, that will extend through September 30, 2002. The new contract creates a jobshare classification, to meet the needs of a changing work force.

"I am pleased that we have created the possibility of job-share opportunities that will enhance the already family-friendly environment at Grand Valley," said Dave Veneklase , director of staff relations and benefits.

Prior to his eight years as director of International Business Studies, Mielke was interim dean for Marquette University's College of Business Administration for a year. He started at Marquette as assistant professor of Accounting in 1980 and as an associate professor beginning in 1986. He has also held executive positions with Seven-Up Bottling of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, and Robert W. Baird and Company of Milwaukee .

Mielke said his first priority will be to showcase international business , particularly when the Seidman School of Business moves into the Richard M. DeVos Center and the Global Trade Institute is fully organized. Mielke said he is eager to expand links between GVSU and universities overseas and set up an advisory committee that will

The new contract provides for three job-sharing positions at this time, with the possibility of additional positions later. "This will give all of us a chance to see if these types of positions are viable," said Betty Searle, COTA president and academic department coordinator for the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.

Anyone interested in a job-share position should notify the Human Resources Office that they want to be contacted when such an opportunity is available. All positions will be posted along with other job openings.
