After all the fly-away races it is good to be starting the European leg of the season and travelling to venues that are closer to home, which have with easier logistics. Jerez is one of the tracks that we are targeting for improvements this season. It is a low grip circuit, with many directional changes, as well as being quite narrow. The diversity of the corner layout means that we
need to offer a tyre with a balanced character to provide good handling from low speed through to high speed corners and from flat turns to changes in elevation, so this makes it quite technical in all aspects. We have a range of tyres that will give us the sort of progress we are looking to make and then on the Monday at the test we will be supplying some new options, as well as giving the riders some existing alternatives, to try out and make comparisons with the tyres we already have in the range. Jerez itself is an amazing event, full of excitable and colourful fans and it’s a race that has given some memorable battles and is certainly a great place to start at in Europe.
22Slick tyres
For each grand prix weekend (free
practice, qualifying, warm-up and race),
riders have a total allocation of 22 slicks:
10 front slicks:
Up to five A-specification compounds
Up to five B-specification compounds
Up to five C-specification compounds
12 rear slicks:
Up to six A-specification compounds*
Up to five B-specification compounds
Up to four C-specification compounds
*Riders participating in both Q1 and Q2
(a maximum of two competitors) will be
granted an additional A-specification slick
rear tyre – offering the optimum grip level
– after Q2. This means that these two riders
will have access to a maximum of seven
A-specification rear tyres and 13 rear slicks.
11Rain tyres
Riders have a total allocation of 11
rain tyres per grand prix weekend (free
practice, qualifying, warm-up and race):
5 front tyres:
Up to four A-specification compounds
Up to two B-specification compounds
6 rear tyres:
Up to five A-specification compounds
Up to two B-specification compounds
In instances where all of the free
practice sessions and at least one
qualifying session are declared ‘wet’, an
extra set of rain tyres will be allocated
to each rider. The new allocation will
therefore be composed of:
6 front rain tyres
(four A-specification
+ two B-specification)
7 rear rain tyres
(five A-specification
+ two B-specification)
Tread re-cutting is prohibited.
