Introduction

IELTS test is designed to assess the language ability of non-native speakers of

English.

Although the IELTS test doesn’t contain a specific grammar module, it is best to

know basic rules and principles of the English grammar for IELTS.

Grammar and vocabulary make up half of your speaking and writing scores!

Why is Grammar Important ?In order to be successful in the IELTS exam, it is important that you use correct

English, appropriate grammar, and a wide range of vocabulary and sentence

structures!

Examiners look at five different things in order to determine a candidate's score:

1. Pronunciation

2. Grammar

3. Vocabulary

4. Fluency and Coherence

PronunciationPronunciation can be a tricky matter when it comes to the English language.

There are numerous ways to practice and numerous resources to help guide

you in practicing the pronunciations.

VocabularyFor English language learners (IELTS), vocabulary development is very important.

Before studying vocabulary, understand the

difference between each word in a word-family.

There is a difference between passive vocabulary

and active vocabulary.

Passive vocabulary is used in reading and listening,

where you are receiving information.

Active vocabulary is used in writing and speaking,

where you are giving information.

Fluency & CoherenceFluency & coherence refer to your ability to speak at length. Including organizing

ideas logically and appropriately signposting.

Fluency : Is the ability to maintain a flow of language without unnatural hesitation.

Coherence : Is the logical organization, development and connection of ideas

Fluency : Speed, Continuity, Smoothness

Coherence : Expand on your answer, Show knowledge of the 'short form' of answer,

Most Common Grammar MistakesIn order to be successful in IELTS exam you should take a diagnostic grammar test
