NEW LEADER WITH NEW RULES

CONFIDENT TO BRING ABOUT

CHANGE IN GRAMMAR WORLD

“We judge you when

you use poor grammar.”

So said the head com-

missioner of the Gram-

mar Nazi, Ahmad

G r a m m a m a r .

“These „errors‟

happen because we, the

community in general

take this foreign lan-

guage so lightly. Most

of feel offended when

our mother tongue is

used with silly grammar

mistakes. We get agi-

tated when people make

grammar mistakes in

our mother language

because we feel we are

being ridiculed”, he

c o n t i n u e d .

He also men-

tioned that it is impor-

tant that we do not make

simple grammar mis-

takes in English because

it will look like we are

ridiculing this universal

l a n g u a g e .

“We are doing

this– correcting these

mistakes and exact pen-

ance to these grammar

criminals– to sow

awareness among our

people about the impor-

tance of grammatical

perfection”, he added.

G r a m m a m a r

reminded that we should

embrace this ideal as it

would prep us towards a

conscious English using

community.

POOR GRAMMAR LEGAL PRACTITIONER

Page 2 Weekly Wanted

Customers are the one most affected when problems occur later in the contract

THE FIRST MISTAKE

“Without a will, then your assets will distributed

according to Distribution Act 1958”

Firstly, “distributed” needs a helping verb “be”, and

“then” is not needed in this sentence.

The mistake should then be corrected to “Without a

will, your assets will be distributed according to

Distribution Act 1958”.

THE SECOND MISTAKE

“Why still waiting, pls don’t make chance on poten-

tial disputes and uncertainties”

Wrong choice of word “make”, and nouns are

needed for the sentence to be grammatical correct.

The correction: “Why are you still waiting? Don‟t

take your chances on potential disputes and uncer-

tainties.”

is a member of Grammar Nazi to watch what the

l e c t u r e r s

have been

t e a c h i n g

and found

out there

were minor

mistakes in

g r a m m a r

lessons. The

G r a m m a r

Nazi do not tolerate grammatical errors even

We fInd it inappropriate

for this elite club that

consist of brilliant mem-

bers to make grammatical

errors. It is not to be taken

lightly that brilliant stu-

dents make these type of

m i s t a k e s .

The grammar

Nazi had no choice but to

take drastic measures. In

every English class, there

though it is just a small

mistake.

GRAMMAR ERROR :

“To all FITM students /

above are invited.”

GRAMMAR CORREC-

TION : To all FITM stu-

dents with CGPA 3.5 and

above, you are invited to

etc...

FELLOW SOCIETY EMERGENCY MISTAKE occur within the duty pe-

riod.......

ety learned from their mis-

takes and posted notices

with correct grammar usage.

Wrong usage of

grammar may lead to misun-

derstandings. They better

not dare to make grammar

mistakes, ever again.

GRAMMAR ERROR :

“...problems within...”

GRAMMAR CORREC-

TION : Kindly contact fel-

lows on-duty should any

emergencies or problems

The fellow society was

caught red handed of gram-

mar error. This should not

happen since the fellow so-

ciety should be aware of

their notices to inform oth-

ers. They should have

checked their notices before

posting it to the public.

Now that the

Grammar Nazi caught them

red handed, they have to pay

the price- they were made to

undergo a grammar boot

camp. After going to the

boot camp, the fellow soci-

Grammar Nazi strongly feels that

this water filter agency should not

make mistakes on their advertise-

ment, especially grammar mistakes.

This can lead to misunderstandings

and negative impression of the com-

pany to the readers. These simple

mistakes should not happen.

The reason that the first

sentence is wrong is because there is

no verb. The message intended is an

action voice, therefore it needs a

v e r b .

The second sentence is

clearly wrong because a preposition

i s n e e d e d t h e r e .

It is such a shame that these

simple mistakes can happen.

T H E F I R S T M I S T A K E :

“High value trade in your…”

The sentence needs a verb. So it

should be “High value in trading in

your…”.

THE SECOND MISTAKE:

“Sign up HS water plan”

The verb should be followed by a

preposition so it should be “Sign up

with HS water plan…”.

GRAMMAR ERROR :

“Document required”

GRAMMAR CORREC-

TION : Documents re-

quired

MUET notice has gram-

matical error? Is this a

joke? The notice contains

an important info but was

not delivered grammati-

c a l l y w e l l .

Document re-

quired was written. It is

correct if there is only one

requirement but it has 2

required documents.

WATER FILTER NEEDS GRAMMAR FILTER!

MUET ADVERTISER MAY NEED MORE MUET

DON’T BUY! OUR AIRCONDS

ARE SOLD OUT!

GRAMMAR ERROR :

“Sold and trade in used...”

GRAMMAR CORREC-

TION : Sell and trade in

used...

and trade, when in reality

you are selling and trading.

The message means

all of the air conditionings

are sold out, so then why

bother putting up an adver-

tisement?

This is the perfect example

of how grammatical errors

can lead to misunderstand-

i n g s .

The obvious reason

why the sentence is wrong is

because, you cannot use sold

What?! The Grammar Nazi now at-

tacks student council? What is going

on? What could possibly be the rea-

son of this attack? There is only one

obvious reason for that- grammatical

error. Student councils have to be

careful and extra cautious because

they are the highest ranking student

organization and represent the stu-

dents themselves.

GRAMMAR ERROR : “The more

fun is yet to come”

GRAMMAR CORRECTION :

More fun is yet to come.

MORE MISTAKE IS YET TO COME!

details like grammatical

errors on their advertise-

ments?

GRAMMAR ERROR :

“We looking forward your

present as it will enlighten

our....”

GRAMMAR CORREC-

TION : We are looking for-

ward for your presence as it

will enlighten our....

There is no need to attend

this selection. Grammar

Want others to attend your

activity? Then make sure the

way you attract others are

grammatically correct. If

not, then Grammar Nazi will

come bearing its claws right

on your front door.

How to trust an

organization to manage a big

event when they cannot even

make time to double check

LAB RULES VS GRAMMAR RULES GRAMMAR ERROR :

“Students are NOT AL-

LOWED to surf any prohib-

ited and against the law

website pornography.”

GRAMMAR CORREC-

TION : Students are not

allowed to surf any prohib-

ited websites like pornogra-

phy and websites that are

against the law.

Is this an effective way to

make students follow rules

and regulations? How to

follow the rules when the

rules are not even clear?

Grammar Nazi definitely

does not like this kind of

h a l f - b a k e d l a w s .

Rules with gram-

matical errors are not con-

sidered rules. Rules should

be firm and clear on what it

exactly means, thus any er-

ror would contradict the

strictness thus projecting a

weak sense of authority.

While food catering may have

nothing to do with grammatical

concerns, it does not escape the

wrath of the Grammar Nazi.

Imagine this caterer mis-

read some recipes or instructions

from client because of some silly

grammar misinterpretations,

would not that cause a ruckus?

The reason why the sen-

tence is wrong is simply because

the preposition used is not suit-

able.

GRAMMAR ERROR : “Are

you busy in your work?”

GRAMMAR CORRECTION :

Are you busy with your work?
