Grammar Byte 6.1 Clause/Phrase:

Appositive: A noun or noun phrase that is placed after another noun or noun phrase to help identify it or to give more specific information.

The appositive is set off from the sentence by a pair of commas, or if it comes at the end of a sentence, by one comma.

Grammar Byte 6.2Apostrophe -is a punctuation mark. In English, it serves three purposes:

• When one omits a letter (contractions like don’t).• To make something possessive (as in the cat’s whiskers).• To make letter plural (as in P's and Q's).

Possessive: A noun or pronoun that indicates ownership, belonging.

Possessive Pronoun: A pronoun that shows ownership.

1.He climbed the stairs of their house.

2.Her cat is beneath his newspaper because she scared it.

Possession (Compound) –

When two people share something, they share an apostrophe.

When two people have separate things, they each need their own apostrophe.
