Graham Wilkin 31.07.2020 1 Welcome to the latest edition of Tricuro Cares. Some wonderful examples to share with you all in our good news stories this week. It’s so nice to see people having an opportunity to go out and visit places outside of their home and enjoy the sun and scenery and, in some cases, get their hair done too. In the last edition I mentioned the business strategy which will bring about some changes in what we do as we embrace a more personalised approach to the delivery of our services. This will inevitably mean some changes to what we do and how we do things. I appreciate that change can be a source for good and an opportunity to do things better, but can also bring with it some anxiety and worry from people who use our services and our staff. Essentially what we are wanting to do is modernise our service offer as the needs and aspirations of people change. This will mean looking at what the different models are that other providers offer in the various care settings across the country. For example, in day services we want to see how we might support more people with using activities and facilities within and from their local community, as well as those that will require the use of a day center due to the complexity of their condition. This means we will still need our day services, but can deliver them in a much better way. This also means thinking and planning how we support people with disabilities to prepare for the next stage in their lives; whether these are young adults who want support to develop skills and help them do things other young people enjoy, including work or volunteering, or older adults who may be facing big changes as their family carers age. We will still be providing residential and nursing care, but would also like to see how we might provide this differently and more flexibly to provide care and support that really recognises what matters to each person. As more people are helped to live and remain in their own home for longer, we need to develop our expertise to make sure we are best equipped to provide a good life for the increased number of people with complex needs associated with dementia. Similarly with reablement and community support. We would like to see how this much valued and essential service concerned with keeping people independent and returning Tricuro Tech Survey A big thank you to all our day service staff who have filled in the Tricuro Tech Survey. We have had a good number of replies so far. However, as you can see in the table below we have a little way to go yet. We are slowly building a great picture of the understanding of assistive tech in our services, and each reply will help us inform the steps we take next. Can I remind our day service managers and seniors to pass on the link to as many of our day service staff as we can so we have the best sample size possible. Welcome to the latest edition of Tricuro Cares.

This also means thinking and planning how we support people with disabilities to prepare for the next stage in their lives; whether these are young adults who want support to develop skills and help them do things other young people enjoy, including work or volunteering, or older adults who may be facing big changes as their family carers age. or remaining in their own homes can grow and develop further.

To bring about these exciting changes we will still need you, our dedicated staff.

Not only are we considering the needs of people who use our services, their respective families and carers, but the needs of our staff too. Consequently, we will be reviewing the training and development needs of our teams and respective managers, to ensure you feel confident and suitably equipped to do your job to the best of your ability. It is important to acknowlege that any proposed developments will be inclusive of input from our commissioners, people who use services and representatives from our workforce as part of our co-design principles. I will also be organising meetings with respective managers and staff over the coming weeks and months and look forward to discussing with you the exciting opportunities the planned developments hold for Tricuro as we move forward as a company.

Good News Stories

Christchurch Connect now have daily group meet ups in various locations. We have been meeting up for a coffee, picnic, rambling and ball games. Our first outside carers meeting was a success. Thank you to our staff team who have worked hard to make all the activities happen. Kath Dermiland Senior Care & Community Service Officer

Wareham Plus have been out to visit Olive who has just walked up the path and back; now sitting in the garden having a chat and a cuppa. She’s a new woman since her hair cut!

I’m a client get me out of here!

After four months of isolation and lockdown, able to do welfare calls and social visits, last week heralded the start of trips out for our clients to enjoy the lovely weather. Poole Plus, working in collaboration with BCP Passenger and Community Transport, made it possible for our clients to go out and about and enjoy the ‘new normal’.

In the morning we went to the Sea View viewpoint where John was able to enjoy not only the scenic view, but also a 99 with a flake no less. He was so grateful that he could not stop expressing his gratitude. “I’m so glad to have such loving carers in my life who enable me to do such amazing things. I’m really looking forward to next Wednesday”.

In the afternoon we took two lovely gentlemen out to Ham Common, where we indulged in the view onto Arne Nature Reserve. Driving through Hamworthy brought back some great memories for Eddie, as he used to work there.

I would like to thank my manager Tara for having the confidence in me to allow me to organise this project and to see it through to completion.

Seeing the happiness this simple gesture brought is just brilliant. I’m looking forward to expanding this project in the next few weeks, as today was such a success.

Sabrina Oberpichler

Day Service Officer at Poole Plus

Diana Ackerman retired after 23 years of working at Ferndown Plus. Diana was given a social distancing send off and will be so missed by everyone.

Rhys has been shielding at home with his family, and I have had the pleasure of calling him once a week to see what he and his family have been up to. Rhys loves the underwater area of the Sea Life Centre, especially in the tunnel where he can see things clearly. Every time his Mum mentions jellyfish, Rhys has the biggest smile, which tells her a lot. He now has lots of different jellyfish to choose from in his room, where he enjoys watching as they gently change colour, as if swimming in the ocean. It is clear that a lot of hard work has gone into his room and from the giggles and laughs I have heard from him on the phone he clearly likes it very much. Sharon Stone, Day Services Officer, Ridgeway Plus

Stay safe and well. Kind Regards,

Graham

Interim Managing Director
