“The journey towards being a landscape architect is unique where it requires sensitivity towards the surroundings as well as the flora and fauna. Sustainability being a key factor of today’s context, I aspire to be a Land-scape Designer that is able to tackle prob-lems with simplicity and dynamic designs that allows users to feel immerse within the landscape.”

Converging Impetus.FINAL YEAR PROJECT

07

Project Context

Situated within Queenstown estate,Singapore, the site is juxtaposted on the worn heritage ktm railway track between a pioneer batch of public housing and the JTC One-North business area possesses the country’s leading state-of-the-art medical, science and technology facilities.

Diversity Zone comprising of a proposed business park in which stands as a connectivity between One-North’s Biopolis and existing Commonwealth business buildings.

Converging Impetus

Converging Impetus literally means merging forces. The site contains many zonings, each with their own unique characteristics, ranging from the area type and the types of people that gives the neighbourhood its rich context. The concept is to bring these “forces” inbound to the green corridor, creating these spaces that enable the Buona Vista and Commonwealth community as well as the general public to experience how everything merges as one within it’s unique identity and activities.

Gamelan Music is a traditional form of music that is mainly based in Indonesia with variations being seen within South East Asian countries. Gamelan Music despite it being closely linked to the rich heritage of the Malay cultures, Besides being a form of music, Gamelan brings interaction between audience and performers where they are usually played in open spaces where people sit down enjoy it. How i intergrate my concept is by the flow of the harmious tuneforming the curves towards the architecture site with essenc-es of sculptures and pavilions creating a rhythm and melody within the garden towards the bustling commerical spaces of the previous Sultan Gate. Colours such as Gold, Yellow and Red are essential colors found on plants and materiality to reflect the Genius loci of the Malay Heritage as well as the Gamelan Music.

The project mainly analysis an existing communty garden that is subjected to the general public with essences of universal design that caters to different types of user needs from the wheelchair impaired to visually challenged users. In creating a garden that is sustainable, this project allowed me to explore sustainable aspects like a rain garden from the section below that is able to cleanse collected water from surrounding surface runoff that can be used for irrigation.

National Parks Board; Design Division

During the three months of Internship with Nparks, I had fun ending off my internship with the Parking Day event. ‘Parking Day’ is a day where a parklet will be used as a public space. The fundamental elements of a parking day design is required:-symbolic groundcover-seating-shade-enclosure-signage

Ideation of using hand-drawn plain umbrellas, we explored different material in the event and achieved the idea of usingyellow boots portraying man-kind are the key on protecting towards nature.

As a form of expression, it is a way for destressing myself and a tool in the importance of turning visualisation into reality.
