The GSICS Program for Careers in International Organizations is now in its fifth year, with more career seminars and more graduate student internships in international organizations than ever before. The internships with the UN Office for Drugs and Organized Crimes (Bangkok, Thailand), the International Criminal Court (The Hague, Netherlands), and the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (Geneva, Switzerland) are just a fraction of the internships being filled by GSICS students with the financial support of this Program. Such internships for graduate students are an important step in their career development. Recently a graduate student obtained a one-year contract as a research assistant for the Special Rapporteur for Disability after her initial internship with the Office of the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights (Geneva, Switzerland). This graduate student is currently working as an NGO officer in Africa.

I am an Economic Planning Officer in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, Ghana. Since joining GSICS as a master’s student, my knowledge on economics has expanded greatly. The overall academic environment, particularly the well-equipped reading room and the internet facility, which are both accessible 24 hours a day, together with the well-stocked library have made my learning very relaxed and exciting. In addition to the academic benefits I have received over the past several months, I have also learnt so much from the truly multicultural environment at GSICS. I am also convinced that the structure of the courses will make me more competitive in the Ministry and in life in general. All in all, my academic life at GSICS has been very rewarding thanks to the support from both academic and administrative staff, none more so than my academic supervisor.
