Eleven grads worked on the highly anticipated Borderlands 3 from Gearbox. Alumni from the Game Development, Computer Animation, Game Art, and Digital Arts & Design programs helped create the latest installment in the space western series. They crafted the sights and sounds of four new planets and added new Vault Hunters for a fresh player experience.

Senior Sound Designer Josh Davidson said his team’s sincere love for their work is what made Borderlands 3 so special. “Everyone working here is insanely passionate and have put their hearts and souls into it. Hopefully gamers and fans all over the world will feel the love put into it… and have fun spending time looting and shooting with their friends and families.”

As a four-time Grammy winning producer and mixer, Recording Arts graduate Josh Gudwin staked his claim in the industry working with big names like Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, Dua Lipa, Keyshia Cole, Lionel Richie, and more.

Those accolades earned him a spot in Full Sail’s Hall of Fame in 2019.

Josh also served in the Marine Corps, and credits his time in the service with helping him build skills that he still uses in the studio.

Jonathan Mayer Sound Design ManagerFacebookAfter graduating from the Recording Arts program, Jonathan Mayer began his career at Different Fur Studios where he helped out answering phones and working in the facility’s extensive archives. Over the next three years, Jonathan worked his way up to a

position as an assistant engineer. Jonathan created an album of game music and presented it to the Director of Music at Sony Computer Entertainment who then hired him to compose music on contract. One contract led to another, and soon enough Jonathan was brought onto the team full time. He currently works as a Sound Design Manager at Facebook.

For 2014 Full Sail Film grad Mohamed Saad Mansoor, Hollywood is a long way from his hometown of Mumbai, India, but it’s exactly where he wants to be.

After graduating, his work on the 2015 film Man Down led to more jobs, including behind-the-scenes production staff roles on TV series like Grey’s Anatomy, Lucifer, and Get Shorty, as well as films like Roman J. Israel, Esq. and James Franco’s Future World.

Full Sail Grads on Emmy-Worthy Shows

Over 150 Grads in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Ever since the release of the first Iron Man movie in 2008, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has dominated live-action comic book storytelling on the silver screen. As "The Infinity Saga" spooled out in the years since, Full Sail grads have worked on each of the series' 23 films, earning nearly 600 credits.

Almost a dozen Full Sail graduates worked on the Oscar-nominated Black Panther, including Corey

Allen (Computer Animation) as a senior paint artist and Andrew Zink (Computer Animation) as a CG Supervisor. Box-office smash Avengers: Infinity War also featured the work of multiple grads, including two Hall of Fame inductees: David Farmer (Recording Arts, sound designer) and Juan Peralta (Recording Arts, re-recording mixer).

As the series wrapped up, an additional 50 grads were credited on Iron Man 3, and dozens more worked on the Infinity Saga's final two installments, Avengers: Endgame and Spider Man: Far From Home.

It takes a lot of people to bring an Emmy-nominated TV show to life, and this year many of them were Full Sail alumni. Grads representing the Film, Recording Arts, Computer Animation, and Creative Writing programs worked on 2019’s critically acclaimed shows. Seven Full Sail grads contributed to nostalgic comedy hit The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (15 nominations, four

Emmys) and six grads worked on theater drama Fosse/Verdon (17 nominations, four Emmys). Film, Computer Animation, and Recording Arts grads brought their talents to Game of Thrones (32 nominations, 12 Emmys) and even more grads were credited on shows like Bojack Horseman, Ozark, The Handmaid’s Tale, and Veep.

Brandon MooreGraphic DesignerMiami Dolphins

Digital Arts & Design graduate Brandon Moore made a name for himself working on logos and brand identities for various freelance clients. Today, he’s part of the Miami Dolphins’ creative team, working on everything from yearly brand campaigns to daily content.

“For me, the fun part is the big picture stuff. Like when we release our schedule for the year – that’s a big moment,” he says. “Our branding, marketing, and social media doesn’t look different; it’s a little more polished, but we’re looking at the brand on a deeper level. How can we evolve over the next five to ten years?”

Frozen II

Shortly after graduating from Full Sail’s Computer Animation degree program, Chelsea Lavertu accepted a position as a Look Development Artist with Walt Disney Animation Studios.

Her first project was Tangled Ever After, a short film that followed up Disney’s successful release of Tangled in 2010.

“As a fresh graduate, working on a short film was less intimidating for asking questions and making mistakes than working on a large-scale one,” says Chelsea.

Since then, Chelsea has worked on a number of acclaimed animated films, including Frozen, Frozen II, Moana, and Wreck-It Ralph. As a look development artist, she works to add the color, texture, hair, and fur to a 3D character after it’s modeled and before it’s animated.

“It’s humbling that these movies make so many people happy,” says Chelsea. “I’m proud and amazed I get to be a part of it.”

Lee RobertsDeputy Chief of Public Affairs U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Nashville District

After more than 20 years as a military journalist – which took him to Cuba, Kosovo, Saudi Arabia, and more, working for NATO, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and U.S. Southern Command – Lee Roberts enrolled in the New Media Journalism program at Full Sail.

Although Lee brought years of experience to his master’s program, he says “there were a lot of opportunities to learn something new.” He applies that new knowledge to his Nashville-based public affairs position, working on a mostly local scale to inform the public about things like development, water and infrastructure management, and recreational safety.

Media Communications grad Iván Emilio Albino’s personal YouTube channel caught the eye of BuzzFeed, leading to a promising internship that has recently become an even more exciting position as a social video producer. Iván has been able to experience special opportunities and gain exposure to multiple departments within BuzzFeed by being direct about his career goals.

“Don’t get comfortable anywhere,” says Iván. “It’s important to keep working hard toward the next big dream. Every day I did something little to improve my resumé and skills, and then I got the call to come work at BuzzFeed. It takes time, but it’s definitely worth it.”

Isaiah CampbellAuthorThe Johnny Cannon series

Seeking a better understanding of the craft, writer Isaiah Campbell enrolled in Full Sail’s Creative Writing MFA program. One of the things he says

the program instilled in him was the idea that constructive feedback is important, and, after finishing a first draft of a novel, he decided to post the opening chapter on an online writing forum as a way to facilitate more collaborative input. The chapter caught the attention of Marietta Zacker, a literary agent who represents the likes of Rick Riordan (Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief) among others. Using her contacts, Marietta was able to land Isaiah a contract with major publishing house Simon & Schuster.

Isaiah’s first book, The Troubles of Johnny Cannon, was published in October of 2014. With his newfound arsenal of tools, Isaiah was able to complete his second book, The Struggles of Johnny Cannon, in just three months, and a third novel, Abrakapow, was released in November 2016.

Chris MartignagoDirector of A&R ResearchAtlantic Records As director of A&R Research for Atlantic Records, 2013 Music Business grad Chris Martignago spends a lot of time navigating the world of online engagement. “I spend my days looking at anything I can use to quantify the success of an artist,” he says. “That might be streaming data, or album sales, the number of times people Shazam a song, or radio spins.”

In his role at Atlantic, Chris develops strategies that help the label sign new artists and also works with top-tier artists already signed to Atlantic to expand and maintain their audiences.

“Talent is something you can grow over time,” he says of his approach to working with artists. “Work ethic is much more impressive in the early stages of someone’s career.”

A graduate of Full Sail’s online Entertainment Business master’s program, Alyssa Velazquez is responsible for overseeing content assets like videos, graphics, captions, and gifs that make their way onto MTV’s social media channels.

For students and new grads looking to break into the industry, Alyssa suggests looking at examples of how each social channel is different, and really focusing on trying to tailor an individual voice that reflects each of the platforms’ unique characteristics.

“These days, social media is more personal than ever,” says Alyssa. “People expect accounts to be curated, but they can also detect inauthenticity a mile away. At MTV, we strive to be as authentic and transparent as possible.”

From blockbuster films and games to GRAMMY-winning albums, our Hall of Fame alumni have made huge impacts in their industries – and the Full Sail community.

Six new graduates are chosen for the Hall of Fame each year, and every year, we celebrate their accomplishments through a weeklong event complete with educational panels, entertainment, and more.

Check out just a few stories about some of our Hall of Fame inductees’ recent work.

Mix engineer and Full Sail Hall of Fame inductee Leslie Brathwaite has built a career working with established, top-tier artists like Pharrell Williams, Outkast, and Jay Z, as well as explosive debuts like Cardi B's hit first album, Invasion of Privacy.

Working with Cardi B was refreshing, says Leslie, due to the level of enthusiasm brought to the project. Typically, Leslie works out of his home base in Atlanta and sends digital versions of the completed mix to artists for approvals. But Cardi B wanted a better understanding of how the mixing process unfolds, so she flew Leslie down to Miami to see him in action.

“She’s the most authentic person, and she’s really fun to be around,” says Leslie.

Kris Klein was a Recording Arts student when he saw Toy Story in theaters in 1995. He loved the movie so much that he decided to switch to Full Sail’s brand-new Digital Media program (now Computer Animation) and create animated characters for film.

Kris “basically lived in” Full Sail’s new graphics visualization lab until he finished his degree. After graduation, Kris worked his way up with freelance

gigs and eventually landed at Pixar, working on movies like Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo, and The Incredibles. His journey came full circle when he modeled crowd-favorite character Duke Caboom for Toy Story 4. He’s incredibly grateful to work alongside the talented people at Pixar. “I’ve never seen or found [this environment] anywhere else, except maybe Full Sail,” he says.

Culley BunkerPutting Final Touches on Music Videos As the founder and lead visual effects artist at Skulley FX, Culley Bunker makes sure everything is perfect in the final stages of a music video’s production process. The Digital Media grad and his talented team worked on some of 2019’s biggest music video releases, including Lil Nas X’s breakout hit “Old Town Road” and the Jonas Brothers’ “Sucker.” Both videos won big at the MTV Video Music Awards, with “Old Town Road” winning Song of the Year and Best Direction, and “Sucker” winning Best Pop Video.
