Recorder Songs to Try

This is a great warm-up for the Grade 3 students who have started recorder. For those students who are wanting to start I believe Dollarama is still selling practice recorders. Please e-mail me if you are in Mm Ross’ class and would like to start this. Our plan was to do that after Spring Break, and I would love to help you with that! Even if you do not have a recorder, you can still write in the note names – that is a very important part when learning music.

Page 15: Grade 3-4 Home Learning Package 3€¦ · Web viewT U E S D A Y M A T H Mystery Number # 1 Start at 55. Subtract 10. Add 25. Add 10. Subtract 5. Add 10. Subtract 32. Add 16. Mystery

Before you try these songs on the recorder, look at the symbol after the treble clef that looks like a C. The “C” is shorthand for 4/4 time and means Common Time.

Common Time or 4/4 time means that there are four beats in a measure.

How many beats does the half note get in Common Time? _____

The other thing to notice in the first song is that it only uses two notes G and E!

Label all the E’s in the song “Starlight” before you play.

For those of you working on your recorder belts. This is the NEON green belt!If you go to www.musicplayonline.com in the recorder tab you can hear what this one sounds

like!

Grade 3-5 Early Years Phys Ed Lesson April 20-24, 2020

Hi Vipers,

This week we are going to try to work on some of the items we were practicing during the months of January and February. We were starting to think about the annual JUMP OFF, and all the skipping tricks that we needed to develop to be ready for the event. I hope you have a skipping rope handy, but if you don’t, a string, a scarf, a bunch of socks tied together…these are all good choices to make a rope.

This year, one of the challenges that you received during phys ed was to skip as many times as you could, and that became your baseline. After that, when you came into the gym, you warmed up with your skipping rope and tried to beat your baseline number. On Fridays, we did the official count. If you passed your baseline number by 10, you received a colour belt. We were working towards our BLACK BELT, but unfortunately, we ran out of time. I will share a different way to challenge yourself later in this document.

Before we try, let’s do some invisible skipping. Feel free to play some music and let’s see if we can turn our wrists and jump on the spot for the song.

SKIPPING TRICKS…you don’t have to be an amazing skipper to be successful with skipping tricks. Mostly, you NEED to pay attention to details AND be ready to PRACTICE!!! Some of the challenges are not simple and will need a few tries before you start feeling comfortable. When you are learning a new trick, always go SLOWLY! This will give your brain time to send the message to your muscles. Please look at the pictures in the accompanying attachment.

SIDE TO SIDE SKIER…you will need a line to stand beside. (Place a scarf in a straight line on the floor, a ruler…anything that you can jump over safely). Jump over your skipping rope but jump SIDEWAYS to land on the other side of the object you placed on the floor. Try to jump back to the other side.

BELL…almost exactly like the SKIER trick, but this time you will jump forward and backward

Forward 180 or HALF TURN…you will turn to the right or the left, whichever is your preference. I usually turn to the right. As I am turning, my rope also follows me on the right side of my body. My rope will swing up as I am turning, therefore after my half turn, I should be skipping backwards.

PUSH UP JUMP…jump over you rope, but as the rope comes over your head and down to the front, lower your body to the floor into a PUSH UP position. Your legs will stretch backwards and then bend back so that you can stand. As you stand, get ready to jump over the rope again.

ONE FOOT…jumping on only one foot, turn the rope as you normally would

RUNNER…in this trick you will be switching from right foot to left foot after every jump.

Page 17: Grade 3-4 Home Learning Package 3€¦ · Web viewT U E S D A Y M A T H Mystery Number # 1 Start at 55. Subtract 10. Add 25. Add 10. Subtract 5. Add 10. Subtract 32. Add 16. Mystery

FRONT CROSS or CROSSOVER…. stand in front of a mirror, turn your arms like they are moving a rope forward. When your arms start to come in front of your body, CROSS YOUR ARMS. They should make the letter X. Don’t try to jump over the rope yet. Just see if you can see a wide opening in the rope in front of you. Step through it. Uncross your arms as they come back over your head. You are back to how you started.

The best way to know if you have the right ARM position is simply by NOT uncrossing your arms. If you can use your wrists to turn the rope over and over in a crossed position, you are doing the Front Cross.

HEEL TO TOE…as you are jumping, instead of landing on both feet side to side, touch your right heel to the floor and on the next turn, touch your fight toes to the floor

ARM WRAP…as you are jumping, one arm will swing to the opposite side. If I swing my left arm over to the right, then my left hand is just under my right armpit. The two hands work together to wrap the rope around the right arm. When the rope is wrapped, then you will unwrap the rope. The rope is now moving backwards, so when it is undone, you will be skipping backwards.

SKIPPING WORKOUT

If your brain is feeling a bit-tired concentrating on combining your feet, hands and different body positions…skipping tricks are not easy. Here is a different option.

For the week of April 27- May 1, 2020

I was hoping to use an APP that is FREE. It allows us to practice our favorite activities at home AND maybe win some prizes.

The APP is one that has to do with a program that has been running for more than 50 years. ParticipAction encourages all Canadians to be active, doing anything that makes you feel great!! I just started using the app to see how much activity time I am getting in a week, and I am happy to say that walking the dog, going in the basement to do different workoouts, and any extra time that I can get outside…it is all paying off.

I invite you to go to https://www.participaction.com/en-ca/ to get signed up. It really doesn’t take more than a minute and it hopefully will motivate everyone in the family to see how active they can be.

I would love to hear what you are doing to accumulate 200 minutes of activity per week.

If you are not able to download the APP, NO PROBLEM!!!!!!!!! Please use the tally sheet that I am adding to this package.
