WHAT IS CO-OP? Co-operative Education is a program designed to provide students with “real world” experiential work placements in jobs or career areas they would like to explore. It can help to confirm career choices prior to entering the workplace or selecting a post-secondary program. The classroom component assists students to develop the skills and knowledge directly applicable to entering the world of work. Opportunities to learn on the job and reflect upon experiences are key components. In order for students to be placed in the workplace they must have taken or currently be taking the related in-school course. Co-op students are responsible for their transportation to and from the co-operative education placement. Co-operative Education courses can be taken in all subject disciplines and at all levels.
Note: Students indicate their desire to take co-op through the online course selection process. All students who have requested Co-operative Education will go through an application, interview and selection process. *For more information about Co-operative Education and other opportunities, please see reverse side.

WHAT ABOUT ENHANCED COURSES? The enhanced Math & Science and/or English & History programs provide students with the opportunity to study in an integrated class. Students will cover the same curriculum but in an atmosphere that allows for deeper understanding and greater extensions. An application is required to be considered for theses courses. See your Guidance Counsellor for more information. OTHER PROGRAMS: Specialized Co-op Programs
Co-operative Education also offers specialized programs in Militia, Police, Big Brothers/Sisters Mentorship and Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Programs (OYAP). Acceptance into these programs requires additional paperwork and screening procedures by the host organization. If you are interested in any of these specialized areas, please indicate your preference on your co-op application or contact the Co-operative Education Coordinator.
Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program
The Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) enables students to get a head start on their career as a skilled trades professional while still in high school. Students earn credits toward their apprenticeship and high school diploma. To take an OYAP program, students must be selected through an application process. For a listing of the OYAP programs visit the WRDSB website at www.gooyap.ca or contact the OYAP Program Manager at 519-570-0300.
Dual Credit Programs

These programs give students the opportunity to work in a Cooperative Education placement, attend college and earn both high school and college credits. Students in the apprenticeship programs will receive Level 1 of the applicable MTCU apprenticeship curriculum. Dual Credit Programs may exist in the following areas (subject to change):
College Programs: Business Applications, Early Childhood Education, Intro. To Sociology, Law and Security, Personal Support Worker, Psychology
