Dear Staff, Students and Well-Wishers,

It gives me great pleasure to be a part of Cardinal Gracias High School, Bandra East, Mumbai. I have seen for the last one year, there have been lots of changes in our school for e.g. Quality of Education, Self-discipline, Personal Integrity and Internal Growth of students. We have well-trained and dedicated teachers to impart knowledge to our children.

Francis Pagan says, “Education makes a man fully human”. Therefore education not only provides knowledge and skills but also inculcates values that foster right attitudes and habits.

According to Jawaharlal Nehru, “Education has mainly two aspects; the cultural aspect which makes a person grow and productive aspect which makes a person do things”. These two are the essential aspects to attain glorious future.

I pray that our school grows from strength to strength and in - turn becomes a source of life for new ventures in the field of education.

May there be showers of blessings on all who work in the school and learn in the school. God Bless each and everyone involved in bringing out this school magazine.

So, let us live our life today to make a better world tomorrow.

With prayers and love,

Rev. Fr. Antony Fernandes, O. PraemManager.

Manager’s Message

Dear Gracianites,

“Laying foundation for a vibrant generation” this is the theme of our school for the Scholastic year 2013-2014.

Henry Wordsworth Long Fellow, one of the greatest American poets, quote “We Judge ourselves by what we feel capable of doing; others judge us by what we have done.” unquote. His words speak volumes, about the value of action which justifies the very purpose of our existence.

Dear students, remember, you will have to come out of your comfort zone and face the challenges in life with indomitable courage and confidence.

If you work hard with faith and determination, you will positively reach greater heights and crown yourselves with sure success.

We heartily welcome our new manager, young, energetic, kind hearted and down to earth person to our Gracian family.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to our former Manager Rev. Fr. Xavier Amirtham for having rendered his dedicated service to this institution.

We express our profound and sincere thanks to our beloved Principal Rev. Fr. Sabu Thomas for his patronage, guidance and support.

I take this opportunity to thank our Vice Principal Ms. Kusum Pramod and our supervisors Ms. Mallika Usmani & Ms. Girija Kumar for their great support and guidance.

I also heartily thank each and everyone who has contributed in numerous ways for bringing out this magazine into your hands.

I conclude with the words ’Believe in God and He will show you a way out of any problem.’

Wishing you all a very happy and fruitful summer vacation.

Ms. Usha Sridhar

From the Editor’s Desk

Graciana 2013-14

The Graciana comes again to present to you a glimpse of the spectacular events that happened during the academic year 2013-14. All possible efforts were made by the management and staff for a holistic development of the students.

On behalf of the School fraternity I sincerely thank you Rev. Fr. Xavier Amirtham O.praem, for your selfless service to the

School as a manager for seven long years. The School fraternity extend a warm wel-come to you Rev. Fr. Antony Fernandes O.praem the new Manager and Rev. Fr. Prem Arockia the new pre-primary Incharge and Congrats to Mrs. Girija Kumar, the new su-pervisor. Sincere thanks to Mrs. Hilda Justin [Retired Secondary Supervisor], Miss. Cheryl Fonseca [Retired Pre-Primary Teacher], Mr. Devaya Gangaram and Mr. Deju Poojari [Retired Secondary Peons] and Mr. Krishna Poojari [Retired Primary Peon]. We cherish your valuable contribution to Cardinal Gracias High School.

The academic year began with the scholastic theme "Laying foundation for a vi-brant generation." Great stress was put not only to boost academic excellence but also to strengthen co-curricular and extracurricular activities and the result was marvellous and proved that there is talent in Cardinal Gracias High School. You will realize it as you turn the pages of Graciana. Almost all students took active part in inter-house and inter-school competitions. Congrats to all the students, teachers and parents for your contribution to bring laurels to the school.

The Comprehensive evaluation promoted by the Maharashtra Government, which is a combination of both Formative and Summative Evaluation, is a strong instru-ment in the hands of teachers to know his/her child and to take all the necessary steps to promote an all round development of the students with the co-operation of parents.

Albert Einstein quote "Every body is a genius, but if you judge a fish by its abil-ity to climb a tree, it will, its whole life believe that it is stupid." unquote.

Every child is endowed with different talents. Hence there should be sincere effort from the side of the parents and the teachers to identify the individual talents of students and make constant effort to promote them.

I extend my sincere prayers and blessings to the out going SSC batch. The School will miss you and I am sure you too will miss the school. As you journey on the path of life leave beautiful footprints behind. As in the poem “The road not taken” by Robert Frost, I urge you to think differently:

“Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,I took the one less traveled by,

And that has made all the difference.”All the best……… God bless…….Fr. Sabu Thomas O.praem

Words that take the place of a noun,Like ‘He’ & ‘She’ and ‘You’ & ‘I’ areExamples of our Pronouns dear.....

Verbs are really action starsJump and run and walk and talkThey are really active ones.....

‘Slowly’, ‘fast’, ‘late’ and ‘well’Examples of Adverb dearShe does qualify a verb,Surely also an adjectiveAnd another Adverb too.....

Conjunctions are joining words‘But’ and ‘so’ are examples

Surprise, sadness, happiness,Feelings such are expressed throughWords like ‘Alas!’ and ‘Hurrah’!Are our Interjections

Graciana Speech

Golden days of school life“Heart cries and so do eyesIt really hurts when you miss your school”

Today when I look back to the past, I often remember the days when I used to be in school guided and loved by all my teachers and friends. It is correctly said that “School days are the Golden days of life” because these days never come back but all of us have fond memories of our school days.

It is indeed agonizing to say sayonara to our alma mater that has been our second home. I am equally happy that our school has and will turn many Catepillars to beautiful butterflies always ready to face the challenges of world. For me, teachers were the guiding light to all Success that I have achieved in my school days. This great edifice has taught me that we should be capable of doing new things rather than simply repeating what others have done.

As the Head Boy of our School, I have gained greater experience in conducting var-ious programmes. I would love to express my gratitude to our Principal. Rev. Fr. Sabu Thomas, our Vice-Principal Mrs. Kusum Pramod, our Supervisors, teaching and non-teaching staff for their great support.

My special thanks to the Discipline Committee members and our Student Council Members for helping me in fulfilling my duties and responsibilities.

I wish C.G.H.S “All The Best”to reach the pinnacles of Glory.

Sayonara.

Head Boy,Jaisal Chakiyat.

Impressions...Farewell Speech

Sayonara....!!!!

School - A place where we learn, we grow, we hate and we love while we discover ourselves. The situation I'm facing today while writing this farewell speech is just the same when I first entered this building with all those mixed emotions. It was not just a building, it was a place that slowly but sweetly over the next 13 years I could call a home.

This institution has always loved me and nurtured me throughout my school life. It is extremely difficult to bid goodbye to this esteemed institution. I just cant forget the time which i had spent with my teachers and the values which they have instilled in me of being a winner.

Being the Head Girl of our school, it has changed me alot. It has taught me to face the situations courageously and not run away from them. It has made me a bit more organized.

I express my heartfelt gratitude to our dear Principal Rev. Fr. Sabu Thomas, Vice-Principal Mrs. Kusum Pramod, our Supervisors Mrs. Mallika Usmani and Mrs. Girija Kumar and all the loving teachers and the enthusiastic council members for all your love and support. I will always cherish the funfilled experiences I had in C.G.H.S.

Thank you...!!

Head Girl,Akshata Shetty.

A LEADER

A leader is a dealer in hope.

Good followers do make good leaders.

The key to leadership is to accept responsibilities.

A Leader must belong before he can lead.

A Leader must be prepared to make the hard decision.

Leadership is largely a behavioural skill. It cannot be taught, only learnt.

A Leader sets a high standard and inspires people to achieve

A Leader needs a clear vision,

He should know where he is leading on.

Life is empty without Leadership.

A Leader should understand the need of the followers.

Let’s learn phoneticsJourney of Life

Someone has well said, "Succcess

is a journey, not a destination."

Happiness is to be found along

the way , not at the end of the

road, for then the journey is over

and it is too late. Today , this

hour, this minute is the day , the

hour the minute for each of us to

sense the fact that life is good,

with all its trials and troubles

and perhaps more interesting

because of them.
