NO MATTER WHO YOU ARE OR WHERE YOU ARE ON LIFE’S JOURNEY,
YOU ARE WELCOME HERE!
Know the anchors of your life.
Several quotes regarding anchors in Christianity and life.
"When the early Christians did represent the sign of the cross on their monuments, they felt obliged to disguise it in some artistic and symbolical way. One of the oldest of the symbols
of the cross is the anchor. Originally a symbol of hope in general, the anchor takes on in this way a much higher meaning: that of hope based on the Cross of Christ. The similarity of the
anchor to the cross made the former an admirable Christian symbol." (Orazio Marucchi, "Archaeology of the Cross and Crucifix," Catholic Encyclopedia (1908), Vol. 4)
In some anchors, the "stock" at the top of the anchor reminded Christians of a cross. Anchors can symbolize different things depending on context; the anchor can be a simple allusion to nautical life, but it can also have a religious meaning, particularly for Christians. In this more religious context, anchors can represent feelings of hope, which is referred to in the Bible as the "anchor of the soul."
Because the anchor is used to secure a ship and keep it from moving out of a designated space, this piece of equipment is also commonly associated with safety. This sense of safety relates to the feeling of hope reflected in the Christian symbolic ideology. Additionally, the use of the anchor as a stand-in for a cross dates back to a time when Christians were persecuted.
“Do you have an anchor? I have found that a solid anchor is indispensable to one who intends to live life fully. To have an anchor is to be centered and well grounded. It is to have a vital spiritual base.” ― Steve Goodier, Joy Along the Way: Sixty-Second Readings That Make the Trip Worthwhile
When your life feels like you're on a sailboat, with no wind to fill your sails, there are still choic-es. You can drop anchor and enjoy your surroundings. Start your motor, if you have one. Grab an oar and start paddling, or wait for the wind to fill your sails once again. There are always other choices while crossing the ocean of life…” ― James A. Murphy, The Waves of Life Quotes and Daily Meditations
