Theme- Our IB curriculum is comprised of six transdisciplinary units that have global significance and offers students the opportunity to explore human experiences. How we express ourselves- an inquiry into the ways in which we discover and express ideas, feelings, nature, culture, beliefs and values; the ways in which we reflect on, extend and enjoy our creavity; our appreciaon of the aesthec. Lincoln Curriculum Connecon– Students will express themselves based on their beliefs and values and those of people around them. Learner Profile The Learner Profile is a set of aributes that, taken as a whole, lay the foundaon upon which internaonal-mindedness will develop and flourish Open-Minded- They understand and appreciate their own cultures and personal histories, and are open to the perspecves, values and tradions of other individuals and communies. They are accustomed to seeking and evaluang a range of points of view, and are willing to grow from experience. Lincoln Curriculum Connecon- Students will be encouraged to accept other peoplescustoms and tradions. Communicator- They understand and express ideas and informaon confidently and creavely in more than one language and in a variety of modes of communicaon. They work effecvely and willingly in collaboraon with others. Lincoln Curriculum Connecon- Students communicate orally and through wrien presentaon Knowledgeable– They explore concepts, ideas and issues that have local and global significance. In so doing, they acquire in-depth knowledge and develop understand- ing across a broad and balanced range of disciplines. Lincoln Curriculum Connecon– Students will become an expert on the country they research Transdisciplinary Skills These skills are capabilies that students need to demonstrate to succeed in a changing, challenging world, which may be disciplinary or transdisciplinary in nature. Communicaon skills– Listening to direcons, others, and informaon through speaking, reading, wring, viewing, presenng, and other non-verbal forms. Lincoln Curriculum Connecon- Students will showcase a country with a poster and 30-hands iPod presentaon Research skills- Formulang quesons, observing, planning, collecng data, recording data, organizing data, interpreng data, and presenng research findings Lincoln Curriculum Connecon- Students will use CultureGrams to complete a webquest about specific countries Social skills- Lincoln Curriculum Connecon– Students are learning to respect peoplesdifferences, cultures, and beliefs Key Concepts Key Concepts are powerful ideas that have relevance within the subject areas but also transcend them and that students must explore and re-explore in order to develop a coherent, in-depth understanding. Connecon– The understanding that we live in a world of interacng systems in which the acons of any individual element affect others. Lincoln Curriculum Connecon- Students will make personal connecons through a study of different countries; comparing and contrasng the differences between their own country and another country that was researched. Perspecve– The understanding that knowledge is moderated by perspecves; different perspecves lead to different interpretaons, understandings and findings; per- specves may be individual, group, cultural or disciplinary. NowFasten Your Seatbelts! Kindergarten is embarking on a trip AROUND THE WORLD. As our itinerary takes us to different countries, we will discover the traditions and celebrations of those societies. During this Inquiry Unit of How We Express Ourselves, stu- dents will be encouraged to be open-minded as they learn to accept others’ cultures and traditions. Students will be col- lecting and creating artifacts that represent a souvenir they acquired while visiting the different countries. Each child will become a knowledgeable communicator as they research other world customs and beliefs and share the new found ap- preciation with their fellow world travelers.
