You just got the new Value Guide, but not all of the new items are in the new My Guide - WHY?

Page 8: “Grab Bag” The Hidden Secrets of Personal Property

You just got the new Value Guide, but not all of the new items are in the new My Guide - WHY?There is a very good reason for this, which

is the Value Guide’s descriptions and 6 digit id codes do not remain constant from year to year.

is the Value Guide’s descriptions and 6 digit id codes do not remain constant from year to year.

Because of the inconsistencies in the Value Guide, there is no way for me to automatically know the difference between a description you added and a new one the value guide added.

Because of the inconsistencies in the Value Guide, there is no way for me to automatically know the difference between a description you added and a new one the value guide added.

Example: The Chevrolet Avalanche LT 2WD is in the Autos and in Pickups/SUVs. Which one to add?

Page 11: “Grab Bag” The Hidden Secrets of Personal Property

So what can be done? Basically, I added a way to find the differences between your My Guide and the current Value Guide.

Why would you do this? Is it important?

Example: You need a copy of your Form 11 from a year ago, because the Value Guide just raised the prices for all the Pickups. You want to compare your Form 11 from 2008, 2009 and 2010. It would be nice if you have these reports saved as files.

The General tab was designed to load the quickest of all the tabs. The Images tab is the worst, because the reporting form images are HUGE.

Why does our county get message?

Page 71: “Grab Bag” The Hidden Secrets of Personal Property

Why does our county get message? 1st you need to know what the log file is

and then you will know why you are getting the message.

Page 72: “Grab Bag” The Hidden Secrets of Personal Property

Why does our county get message? 1st you need to know what the log file is

and then you will know why you are getting the message.

The log file is a file the tracks all/ nearly all the things happening in the program: like adding & editing, deleting, changing account numbers, batch processes like recalculation, prior history, address verification, editing pricing tables, VCS Export, and many more items.

It is tracking who made the change, when did they make the change, and what did they change?

Page 74: “Grab Bag” The Hidden Secrets of Personal Property

Sometimes the entries are very specific and sometime they are a summary of what has occurred.

My main point is that is continuously grows, until you clear it.

The best time to clear it is when you are ready to start a new year. This way you have a record of all the years changes.

It can be viewed, printed, exported and cleared in Main Menu | Reports.

Page 80: “Grab Bag” The Hidden Secrets of Personal Property

Why would you ever clear the log? Wouldn't it be better to keep the all the changes for everything that happens?

Page 81: “Grab Bag” The Hidden Secrets of Personal Property

Why would you ever clear the log? Wouldn't it be better to keep the all the changes for everything that happens? Maybe, but that is a lot of information to

sort through every year. If something is important to keep. Put it in the notes. Over time, as the log file gets bigger, the slower your system will get.

How severe is the risk – you could loose everything?

Don’t think it will happen to you? Just like concrete cracking – It’s not a

question of if you will ever need to restore, but when you will need to restore.

YES there is… VCS Backup. Available for Personal Property and Real

Estate. We don’t make a lot of money from the

VCS Backup programs. Honestly, we have these backup programs just because we know 1st hand what it is like when your computer crashes. It’s a dreadful feeling. You should not have to feel that way too.
