What is GPS ?
• Global positioning system.
• It is a navigation system for
measuring a position by receiving
information from GPS satellites.
• It’s a constellation of 24 satellite
orbiting at a distance of 20,000 km
from the surface of the earth.

Installing AA Batteries:
You can use alkaline, NiMH, or lithium batteries.
i. Turn the D-ring (Battery cover locking ring) anti
clockwise, pull up to remove the cover.
ii. Insert the batteries, observing polarity (+/-)
iii. Re-place the battery cover, and turn the D-ring
clockwise

Etrex 10 GPS Receiver
First of all you have to know about the keys of the
eTrax 10 .
1. Zoom Keys (to increase or decrease the scale of map)
2. Back keys (back from current page and also as a Page
Menu)
3. Thumb Stick (used to up -down the selected Tab and
as a Enter Key)
4 . Menu keys (to get the options in a Tab)
5. Power and backlight Keys(to Turn on and off the
device and adjust the backlight)
Powering on the Device
Press power button as mentioned in key
no.5. It begins on in a few seconds and
then it acquires satellite signals in few
minutes.
The device may need a clear view of
the sky to acquire satellite signals. To
go to satellite page, scroll up to
Satellite Page by using button thumb
stick 3. When the GPS bars on the
satellite page are solid, your device has
acquired satellite signals. The time and
date are set automatically based on the
GPS position.

• In the Satellite Page, at least 4 satellite’s must be in
range while taking GPS reading.
• After you start a GPS device, the satellite page must
show an accuracy level of 3 meters.

Instructions during use of GPS
Precautions during use of GPS device
• To use the GPS Device, you must be in an open area, such
as out of doors.
• Positioning may be difficult or impossible in the following
situations:-
- Under the water
- Under the ground or indoors.
- In tunnels.
- Among high-rise buildings.
- Under elevated or near high voltage electrical power lines.
• To start GPS power button should be pressed for 1 to 2
seconds.
• To change brightness level press the power button once.
• Before starting Area Calculation, current track must be
deleted by going to the Track manager option.
• Before saving area details of farmer must be saved in note
box.
• Save waypoint with Punch plate number.
• Always clear the dash board map through hide on map.
• If GPS device is not required switch it off because it
consumes a lot of battery power.
Precautions during use of GPS device (Contd….)
Some GPS Terms :
Way Point - Is used to mark location of a Treadle Pump.
Name of location will be Punch plate number.
Track : A Track is a line of travel.
Area Calculation - To calculate area of the field irrigated by
treadle pump.
Way Point Manager - To find saved Treadle Pump Location.
If necessary edit Way Point.
Track Manager - It manages saved tracks. To find saved
area. If necessary edit area.
Terminology
How to mark Treadle Pump Location (Mark Waypoint)
Double click on Menu button
Select Mark Waypoint from main menu page (with Thumb Stick button)
Press Thumb stick as Ok
Select option in first Field (scrolling thumb stick up & down)
Click on thumb stick Ok
Alpha numeric keyboard will appear
Enter Punch Plate Number in text box through Thumb stick ( ex- ODG0211822)
Scroll down with Thumb stick
Click Done
Again click Done
Finding saved Treadle Pump Location ( Waypoint)
Open Main menu page
Go to Waypoint Manager
Select the Waypoint (PP number) that you have saved earlier
Click enter from Thumb Stick
Click on Map through Thumb Stick
1. Double click on Menu button
2. Select Setup in main menu page
3. Click on Setup
4. Move to Tracks
5. In Track select –Record, Show on map ,Auto ,More often
6. Double Click on Back button
7. Go to Track Manager in Main menu page
8. Select Current Track
9. Click on Current Track
10. Click on Clear Current Track
11. Yes
12. Go to Area Calculation by double clicking menu button
13. Click Start
14. Walk around the perimeter of the plot/area you want to
calculate
15. When you stop Click Calculate
16. Save Track & Change unit to Acre.
Area calculation of a plot
1. Double Click on Menu button
2. Go to Track Manager in Main menu page
3. Select Current Track
4. Click on Current Track
5. Click on Clear Current Track
6. Yes
7. Go to Area Calculation from by double clicking menu button
8. Click Start
9. Walk around the perimeter of the plot/area you want to calculate
10. When you stop Click Calculate
11. Save Track & Change unit to Acre.
Area calculation of more than one plots
Always follow steps 1 to 6 for clearing any current track from the map, and then start
with a new Area Calculation (steps 7 to 11).
