Located between vineyards and hillsides, this 8-kilometre ramble gives walkers a wonderful chance to discover the valley of the small picturesque Ramberge river descending from the plateau towards the royal Loire valley.

Place de l’égliseThe ramble starts from « Place de l’Eglise », in the heart of the village. In front of you stands a magnifi cent romanesque church built between the 11th and 17th centuries. Notice the bell tower with its clock and inscription: « Le temps fuit, l’éternité s’avance » (time fl ies, eternity draws near). From the covered porch, also called « caquetoire » (conversation chair), you can take in the natural beauty of the town : the small river, the Ramberge, the island and the ponds. Heading towards the town hall, turn right onto

551

« rue de l’Aître Vert » to a square by the same name, then by continuing on the main road (RD 431), you can admire some interesting houses typical of the area, such as the butcher’s house.

In Saint Martin’s footstepsTurn left onto « rue de la Fontenelle » and after 200 m turn right onto a path (one-way street). A white marker signals that you are joining the « chemin de Saint-Martin » which connects Trèves and Tours. On these markers, as well as the compass points, the initials D et M stand for Doyenné de Saint-Martin (a group of several parishes).Walk alongside the stream and enjoy the cool underwood.

WoodsAt the end of the path turn left, then right following a small, tarmac road. Turn right again following the footpath and continue straight on as indicated by the markings. After about 50 m, turn right onto a gentle slope in the direction of « La Maillaudière ». There, turn left at the wooden gate onto a limestone path to the hamlet of « La Pinière ».

La PinièreAt the hamlet, go on straight on the little tarmac road bordered with wild hedges. The hedges today are considered to be a part of the landscape, an indispensable system of natural space management. Small animals use them as nests and for reproduction. They also offer protection from the wind and facilitate the infi ltration of water.

Ramberge valleyContinue on the road bordered by cultivated fi elds, fallow land and underwood and enjoy the panoramic view of the Ramberge valley. Continue straight ahead on the path then pass the small bridge on your left. At the end of the path, turn left.

VineyardTake the fi rst grassy path to reach a tarmac road. The grassy path is bordered by vines which produce the Touraine-Amboise (AOC) wine. Red, white and rosé but also sparkling white and rosé wines are produced and sold under the appellation Touraine.

Le Jeune JouetArriving at the place named « Le Jeune Jouet », turn left onto a tarmac road then right into underwood.

CalvaryPass a wrought iron cross and continue straight on into the village of St-Ouen-les-Vignes. Near the Ramberge river in the village is a grassy area with benches and a play-area from which you will be able to enjoy the beautiful environment and fresh air.
