Group Chief Executive

Global Process Systems

To all our clients, contractors and in-

dustry contacts and staff , welcome to

another issue of GPS Connect which

as you will read is full of updates and news

about developments across the GPS Group.

I am delighted to report that during 2012

our business grew by some 30 percent and

we are presently on track to grow by over

40 percent this year. Indeed, this year so far

we have already secured the same level of

backlog as was achieved in the whole of 2012.

Additional work that we anticipate for the

remainder of the year will therefore constitute

further growth.

Towards the end of 2012, we completed a

restructure of some parts of the business

which has allowed us to further streamline our

processes and optimise our costs, resulting in

improved cost competitiveness.

Part of this realignment has been the setting

up of a Group Global Shared Services Division,

headed by Graham Hanna (see opposite).

This Division is starting to gain traction and

deliver key performance improvements with

the development and implementation of

common standards and procedures, enabling

us to deliver coordinated, cohesive outcomes

on the work that we undertake.

You will also see that in addition to Graham

Hanna’s new role, we have made a number

of strategic appointments in key positions,

strengthening our management, project and

engineering teams (Page 13). Joining us from

Weatherford International is Brian Cameron,

a highly experienced industry professional,

who is heading up our Asia Pacifi c organisa-

tion with responsibility for our business across

Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia.

I would like to take this opportunity to for-

mally welcome Brian to the team. I know

that his expertise will prove invaluable to us

as we enter our next phase of growth and

development.

As you will read on Page 11, we have also es-

tablished a Gas Compression Services group,

with specifi c expertise to target the growing

demand for this type of off ering.

The last few months have been extremely

busy times for us with many major projects

reaching critical phases. A number of these

have achieved successful and safe milestones

recently including the load-out of the fi rst

module on the LamSon FPSO Project that we

are executing for PTSC of Vietnam. This is the

fi rst consignment of eight large process mod-

ules that are being fabricated at our Batam

Yard in Indonesia and was delivered ahead

of schedule with zero LTI (Page 5).

In the UAE, our team in Mafraq marked a

major milestone on the Amine Plant project

we are undertaking for Bapetco, clocking

some two million manhours without a lost-

time incident (Page 10). Other deliveries have

included the three modules we fabricated for

Murphy Oil’s Serendah Development (Page 6).

With this increased level of activity across our

organisation, our focus on maintaining our

HSE Performance has been more rigorous and

vigilant than ever and we are committed to

ensuring our excellence in HSE is sustained.

Our feature story this time focuses on Indo-

nesia, one of the world’s major emerging

markets (Page 7). Our presence in this vast

archipelago is steadily growing and we are

delighted to have secured a major topsides

module project there recently with more

promising prospects on the horizon.

As always, our multi-national, multi-cultural

teams throughout the Group took time out to

mark the festive season at the end of the year

– each their own creative way - with many of

them also contributing their time and eff orts

to helping out in the communities where we

operate (Page 14).

I am proud to be part of such a dedicated

team of people, a team that is committed to

delivering the very best in solutions for our

clients and partners.

Global Shared Services

It has been a very busy quarter with

a number of our major projects at

the fi nal stages of assembly. Our

focus therefore is on completing

these assignments to the agreed

delivery schedule and meeting all

specifi cation requirements.

We peaked at a manpower level of

around 800 people in our Mafraq

yard and are therefore ensuring

that we continue to maintain our

Quality and HSE standards.

We have reached another signifi -

cant HSE milestone on the Project we are undertaking for Bap-

etco of a further 350,000 manhours without an LTI. This adds to

the 2 million manhours without an LTI already achieved on the

Project (see Page 10) and takes our yard to a total of 7,149,482

manhours completed without an LTI. We were recently audited by

Shell Global Solutions of The Hague and were awarded the Shell

Green Band for HSE, a testament to the safety culture generated

within our yard.

Our strategy has been to focus on work within the MENA region

and this has paid off in that we have been awarded contracts

totalling some US$40 million on major projects in Iraq and Abu

Dhabi for Tier 1 clients. We will have more details on these latest

successes in our next issue.

We have recruited a new Engineering Manager - Daniele Trom-

betta - who brings a wealth of experience that will enhance our

capabilities. We are still looking to recruit sales personnel with a

proven track record as we look to make inroads into Qatar and

Kuwait and increase our market share in Oman.

Over the past few months, GPS has

undergone a planned programme

of realignment of our business struc-

ture. This has been implemented to

meet the growth of our business and

to enable us to continue to deliver the

optimum results to our clients.

As part of this programme, we have

established a Global Shared Services

Division. This Division brings together

under one umbrella, all the functions

the business needs to run smoothly.

These include: QA/QC, Project Controls,

Commercial, Procurement, HR and IT. By coordinating these functions

under the one organisation, we will achieve greater effi ciency in our

work processes and management systems.

It will also provide us with greater leverage out in the market when

it comes to procurement for example.

A large part of this work had already commenced last year with the

introduction and roll-out of our Integrated Management System

(IMS). Due to the sizeable growth in our business since then, we

have now carried this alignment and homogenisation through into

other disciplines.

With engineering offi ces and fabrication facilities in fi ve separate

locations, greater automation of our processes in Project Controls

and Operations is helping to deliver direct benefi ts to the workfl ow

and productivity on the major projects we are undertaking across

those locations.

The enhancements to our IT systems, including the introduction of a

global intranet, are also helping improve the knowledge transfer and

information sharing process, building a strong sense of teamwork.

In my fi rst few weeks at GPS, I’ve

been fortunate enough to meet

with a wide range of people within

our Asia Pacifi c organisation. This

included a visit to GPS’ Batam yard

where work is progressing well on

the fabrication of the process mod-

ules we are building for the Lam Son

FPSO Project.

These modules, weighing in at some

2,600T are rapidly nearing comple-

tion, whilst keeping to schedule,

budget and being executed with the

highest regard for HSE excellence.

In meetings just recently, our client PTSC has expressed sincere

appreciation and high praise for these achievements and the

support of GPS on its FPSO project.

At the same time, the Batam Yard is also charging up with the start

of the Bukit Tua FPSO Project, a further 3,000T of process module

construction executed under a tight schedule for our new client

M3nergy of Malaysia. Both these prestigious FPSO projects further

confi rm the GPS position as a premium provider in our market.

Asia Pacifi c represents one of the most exciting markets for our

industry. The formation of GPS Asia Pacifi c is the vehicle that we

will use to maximise the diff erential our organisation clearly pos-

sesses: our people. With the hard work that has been put in so

far and the dedication of the people we have on board, GPS is in

a premium position for maximising the opportunities.

With the valued support of our clients and partners, it is a journey

that we will embark on with enthusiasm and professionalism. I

look forward to meeting all of you in the near future.

GPS has joined forces with Malaysian organisation Yayasan Sabah Dua

Shipping Sdn Bhd for the purpose of pursuing new energy projects

in the East Malaysia state of Sabah and elsewhere. Yayasan Sabah Dua

Shipping Sdn Bhd provides full ship management and other marine

related services to the shipping industry. GPS was selected by Yayasan

Sabah Dua Shipping based on its solid technology expertise, technical

superiority and global network of project management resources.

The partnership was confi rmed with the signing of a Memorandum of

Understanding which took place at GPS’ offi ces in Kuala Lumpur. Dato’

Abdul Rahman Dahlan, Executive Chairman of Yayasan Sabah Dua Ship-

ping, said, “We are delighted to welcome GPS into this initiative. Each

of our companies brings diff erent but complimentary strengths to this

partnership and there are strong synergies between us. We look forward

to a successful outcome in this joint eff ort.”

Ian Prescott, GPS Group Chief Executive, confi rmed that GPS greatly

values the opportunity to join the partnership, saying, “There are a

number of signifi cant energy projects on the horizon, both in Sabah and

elsewhere and we look forward to working with this GLC organisation.”

GPS Malaysia has been awarded a contract

by Cairn India Limited for the Ravva Field

Gaslift Upgrade Project. The Ravva Field lies off

the coast of Andhra Pradesh in eastern India, in

water depths of up to 80 metres and has been

in successful operation for more than 17 years.

The work scope for this project requires a TEG dehydration unit and

two reciprocating gas compressors. The project is being managed by

GPS Malaysia with the gas compressors being supplied by the newly

formed GPS Compression Services group (see Page 11).

The gas compressors will be single-stage Dresser-Rand HOS units di-

rectly driven by Waukesha L7042GL natural gas-fuelled engines rated

at 1480 BHP each. These compressors will fl ow approximately 36

MMSCFD of dehydrated natural gas and discharge at a pressure of al-

most 120 barg. Engineering is being executed in Kuala Lumpur by a

team from GPS Malaysia and the GPS Compression Services group.

GPS Dubai has achieved the fi rst major delivery milestone on the

ADMA-OPCO 100MBPD Capacity Upgrade Project with the ship-

ment of the initial batch of vessels and skids to the Das Island project

site.

GPS is executing the project for Consolidated Contractors Company Ltd

(CCC) of Abu Dhabi to design and fabricate all process modules com-

prising 7,500M of piping and 700T of steel fabrication and 300T of ves-

sels. The scope of work includes LP, HP and 4th Stage gas/oil separators,

skid mounted sour crude charge pumps and charge heater, cold strip-

ping tower/vent drum; skid mounted stripped crude product pumps,

skid mounted gas scrubber, pipe racks, skid mounted pig launcher and

pig receiver and associated E& I work.

The fi rst shipment included all six separator vessels and four separa-

tor valve skids weighing approximately 160 Tons. Further shipments on

the project are scheduled for coming weeks.

GPS UAE Director & General Manager Kingsley Onojaife said, “This pro-

ject is one of the fi rst major assignments we have undertaken with CCC

for ADMA-OPCO – part of the ADNOC conglomerate, the Abu Dhabi

national oil company. With this prestigious project as part of our track

record portfolio, we are confi dent that it will lead to increased oppor-

tunities for us in the MENA region with the major EPCI Contractors and

oil & gas companies.”

At the end of March, the fi rst of the modules for the major PTSC

LamSon FPSO Topsides Project being carried out by GPS Singapore

and Batam was delivered with zero LTI and ahead of schedule. The FPSO

Topsides Project is part of the Thang Long and Dong Do Field Devel-

opment in Vietnam by LamSon JOC, a 50/50 Joint Venture between

PetroVietnam and PETRONAS.

This fi rst shipment comprises the Flare Knock-Out System (Module M1),

together with the loose ship closed drain vessel and the hazardous/

non-hazardous open drain tanks. These items will be the fi rst to be

installed onto the vessel, which is being converted for FPSO opera-

tions by PetroVietnam Technical Services Corporation (PTSC) at Keppel

Shipyard in Singapore.

Weighing in at 140 MT (dry weight), Module M1 is the smallest of the

eight topsides modules that will be delivered by GPS. Despite the fast-

tracked nature of the project, which

kicked off only in May 2012 and various

challenges overcome along the way,

including an extended period of un-

foreseen rain, this fi rst shipment from

GPS was handed over to and accepted

by the client ahead of the scheduled

sailaway date. The module was 100

percent mechanically complete with

zero outstanding punchlist items and

no carry-over work.

First Load-Out On LamSonZero LTI & Ahead of Schedule

GPS Singapore Project Manager Scott Mackenzie says, “This represents a

signifi cant milestone for the Project as a whole and sets the precedent for

the balance of the works, demonstrating our commitment to successful

execution and delivery of projects. To date, we have logged in excess

of 500,000 manhours without an LTI and this in itself is an excellent

achievement.

“The project-specifi c Safety Incentive Scheme, in partnership with PTSC,

has been successful in nurturing, further developing and maintaining a

world-class HSE culture within the construction team at Batam. GPS has

been recognised by the client on several occasions for our excellent HSE

performance to date and it is our goal to maintain and further enhance

this performance for the remainder of the Project.”

Fabrication of the seven remaining topsides modules is well-advanced

and these are scheduled for load-out out in the coming weeks.

GPS Malaysia is also supporting the project with the provision of four

packages comprising pressure vessels, heat exchangers, pumps, blow-

ers, valves and instruments along with skid packages for installation into

three of the topside modules. These packages comprise TEG Regenera-

tion, Produced Water Treatment, Seawater Coarse Filter and Seawater

Fine Filter & Deaerator (left). A signifi cant portion of the equipment has

already been delivered to Batam.

SBM FPSO PackageWeighs In and Loads Out

The project to supply a Vapour Recovery Compressor Package for SBM Off shore

has been completed by GPS Malaysia with the successful load-out of the unit. The

package will be installed on an FPSO operating on Block 15/06 West Hub Develop-

ment Project, off shore Angola, on behalf of ENI Angola SpA. The package comprises

compressor, three-phase separator, gas fi lters and shell and tube heat exchangers, all

designed to accommodate FPSO motion.

The Vapour Recovery Unit (VRU) consists of a close-looped system with a liquid ring

compressor package and is sized to recover total vapour from the cargo oil tank due

to displacement and evaporation of the oil during tank loading.

Upon contract award,

GPS commissioned a dy-

namic simulation analy-

sis to ascertain the total

amount of vapour emit-

ted during tank loading

and the amount of inert

gas and hydrocarbon

blanket gas during of-

fl oading operations.

The study was critical in

determining the sizing

of the VRU and its com-

ponents, in particular the

liquid ring compressor.

GPS’ scope of work in-

cluded design, engineer-

ing, supply of equipment

and materials, fabrication,

installation, inspection,

testing, preservation,

packing, delivery, me-

chanical completion and

commissioning.

The unit was designed

and fabricated for a single

point lift.

Serendah Units Completed With Zero LTI

The three packages (pictured left) built for Murphy Oil Co’s Serendah Oil & Gas

Development Project have been completed and loaded out successfully with

zero LTI. The work was carried out by GPS Malaysia through its agent Wenmax on

behalf of Sapura Kencana Petroleum. GPS’ scope included engineering, procure-

ment and construction supervision of the entire project comprising: Produced

Water Package, Fuel Gas Package and Vacuum Deaerator Package.

Work is progressing on the project being carried out by

GPS Malaysia to provide a Produced Water Treatment

Package for Thai Nippon Steel. The unit will be delivered to

Thai Nippon Steel for installation on the Salamander EPCIC

Process and Utility Modules BLPMB Project.

The unit comprises two hydrocyclone vessels, piping, struc-

tural and instrumentation. Engineering and procurement

for the unit has been carried out in Kuala Lumpur while

fabrication is nearing completion at the GPS Batam yard.

Indonesia Untold Potential

Indonesia comprises an archipelago of some

17,000 islands and at 245 million people has

the world’s fourth largest population after

China, India and the United States. It is the larg-

est economy in South East Asia with the largest

natural resources in the region. This abundance

of assets includes oil, gas, coal, minerals and

palm oil which stretch across the archipelago

from one end to the other. It was the only Asian

country in OPEC and held the post of Secretary

General during its heydays in the 90’s when it

was producing 1.6 million barrels of oil per day.

Indonesia’s oil and gas basins are prolifi c both

onshore and off shore. Only 20 of its 60 basins

are fully developed with 60 percent of its re-

serves in deep water that are yet to be tapped.

One of the world’s oldest oil producers (since

1876), the country has 28 major oil companies

with another 85 independent oil companies all

operating under 280 Production Sharing Con-

tracts (PSC). This is by far the largest number

of operators in Asia.

The country is politically stable in its tenth year

of democracy following a 30-year dictatorship.

Indonesia is an emerging large economy and

joins the new economic powers of the BRIC

(Brazil-Russia-India-China) group.

Huge PotentialIn early 2013, it was reported that in 2012 the

Indonesian Energy Ministry has given the green

light on as many as 274 work plans and budg-

ets from contractors for the development and

production of oil and gas blocks in Indonesia.

Of the 274 oil and gas contractors, 74 are in the

production phase such as France-based Total

E&P Indonesia in the Mahakam block in East

Kalimantan. The total investment for these 74

contractors is around US$23.5 billion. They plan

to drill 1,200 developing wells, 1,100 work-over

wells and 100 exploration wells producing a

total of:

• 216 million barrels of crude oil

• 4.1 trillion cubic feet of natural gas

• 7.6 million barrels of liquefi ed petroleum gas

Meanwhile, the 200 contractors still on the

exploration phase will invest US$2.7 billion in

2013, to drill 75 exploration wells and over 80

coal bed methane (CBM) gas exploration wells.

For 2013, oil output should reach 900,000

barrels per day of crude oil and 1.36 million of

barrels oil equivalent per day (BOE/D) of gas.

Local PresenceGlobal Process Systems first entered the

Indonesian market in 2006, when it secured

a Mobile Offshore Production Unit (MOPU)

contract from Santos Indonesia on an own-

lease-operate basis. This was a 4-year contract

for the production of 125MMSCFD of gas from

the Maleo Field, off shore Surabaya in East Java.

The project was a ground-breaking initiative

being brought on stream on a fast-track basis

within 14 months.

This prompted GPS to open its fi rst sales offi ce

in Jakarta headed by Dato Jawhar Merican as

Country Manager. Jawhar was tasked to look

for more opportunities in the MOPU sector that

resulted in the company securing a further two

MOPU projects to be deployed in Malaysian

waters. This was for a project undertaken and

developed by PCPP, a joint venture company

between PETRONAS Carigali, Pertamina and

Petrovietnam.

The fi rst ever MOPU project undertaken by GPS

was the Cendor MOPU for Petrofac’s Cendor

Field in Malaysia. The unit was completed

in 2006 and also delivered within a record-

breaking timeline of 16 months.

In-House FabricationOver the years, GPS has built a strong and

competent capability in project management,

engineering and fabrication of process top-

sides for FPSOs.

In 2007, GPS established its own fabrication

yard in Batam, Indonesia, which was set up

primarily to fabricate topsides for FPSOs. Since

then a total of 10,000 metric tons of topsides

modules for four FPSOs have been delivered

for projects outside Indonesia alone. These

include the ongoing LamSon FPSO for PTSC,

the Cidade de Sao Mateus FPSO for Brazil, the

Maari FPSO for New Zealand, the Montara FPSO

for Australia and three compression modules

for Prosafe (now BWO) for a Brazil Petrobras

Project and another Single Lift Compression

Module for Vietsovpetro in Vietnam. All these

projects have been completed with excellent

safety performance and on-time delivery.

Operating on a single point of responsibility

basis, GPS is recognised for delivering topsides

on a turnkey basis with engineering, procure-

ment and fabrication all handled in-house. “The

setting up of our own yard has placed GPS in

an advantageous position to create higher

local content for the Indonesian market,” says

Jawhar.

Operating as PT Global Process Systems, the

unit has been recently audited by international

oil companies and FPSO contractors including

Chevron, ExxonMobil, SBM and Modec, and

received exceptionally high ratings.

In December 2012, GPS was able to secure its

fi rst contract for EPC delivery of full FPSO top-

sides for a project in Indonesia - the PETRONAS

Carigali Bukit Tua FPSO, which was awarded to

M3nergy of Malaysia.

9Issue 1 - 2013 [connect]

On The HorizonThis year and next will be exciting times for GPS

with two new FPSO projects and another Float-

ing Production Unit (FPU) earmarked for this

year. “The timing for these projects is perfect

because they follow one after the other, allow-

ing rollover of experienced project resources,”

says Jawhar. “We have already secured two

major FPSO projects within a short timeframe

and there are another two major topsides pro-

jects from outside Indonesia on the horizon. We

are working hard to make sure these come our

way thus ensuring a continuous fl ow of work

for our Batam yard.”

Another wave of development that is expected

to take place is Coal Bed Methane (CBM). In-

donesia has the second largest CBM reserves

in the world with total potential estimated

at about 453.3 TCF from 11 basins stretching

out over the region, and commercial utilisa-

tion still well short of expected levels. This

fi gure is much higher than petroleum natural

gas reserves, listed at about 135 TCF (proven

reserves). The Indonesian Government has

already awarded several PSCs to contractors for

the development of CBM and these include oil

majors ExxonMobil, BP, Total and Vico which has

already started drilling in CBM blocks.

Development of CBM is expected to meet

natural gas demand, especially in resolving

the shortage of gas supply for the domestic

market. CBM can also be used by the power

and industrial sectors an alternative energy

source to less environmentally-friendly fuels.

GPS is gearing up to participate in this new

wave of CBM development by providing the

processing facilities.

Achieving Success According to Jawhar, the most challenging

part that characterises the Indonesian market

is time-frames. “The gestation period for pro-

jects can be very long and the arduous tender

procedures can cause some of these projects

to be re-tendered which in turn leads to fur-

ther delays in the award of projects.” A good

example is the current Bukit Tua FPSO Topsides

project, adds Jawhar. ”This project has been on

our radar since 2008, however only now, after

four years it has come into eff ect.”

Indonesia also attracts many visitors for many

reasons other than oil and gas. Chief among

these are the friendly people, outstanding

natural beauty and some of the world’s most

incredible ancient temples dating back 2,500

years. Its natural beauty can be seen fi rst hand

at the magnifi cently landscaped golf courses

numbering over 150. “A visit to Indonesia for

business should defi nitely also include some

time for golf!” recommends Jawhar.

To further strengthen its position in In-

donesia, GPS has recently joined hands

with local firm Duta Firza. The company

has signed up as GPS’ partner in the Batam

fabrication yard and is marketing the range

of GPS services in the Indonesian market.

Mr Firlie Ganinduto, President Director of

Duta Firza, is confi dent that the combina-

tion of both fi rms’ resources will present a

strong force in the market.

“We are delighted to have teamed up with

GPS. With the technical expertise and ex-

tensive track record of GPS and our local

network of contacts, we are already making

good headway. We look forward to deliver-

ing positive results going forward.”

Duta Firza provides a range of services that

includes end-to-end solutions for the oil &

gas industry from upstream to downstream,

from full supply to Engineering, Procure-

ment & Construction (EPC). Duta Firza works

together under a joint operation contract

with national oil company Pertamina EP

to operate the oil and gas field in East

Kalimantan.

Duta Firza has also become partners with

Pertamina to Build-Operate-Own (BOO) an

LPG terminal in Makassar, Sulawesi Island.

Indonesia is a key market for GPS and, work-

ing with Duta Firza, steps are in progress

to secure the various local certifi cates and

registrations to pre-qualify for upcoming

projects.

GPS Compression ServicesTo Serve Growing Demand

GPS has established a new entity to service the growing demand

for its gas compression expertise. This group will design and

package reciprocating and screw compressor packages for both on-

shore and off shore applications.

Headed by Executive Managers Lee Turnbull (below left) and Peter

MacDonald (below right), who joined GPS earlier this year, the busi-

ness has already secured its fi rst award of gas compression packages

for Cairn India (see Page 4). The management, engineering and op-

erations team has extensive experience packaging gas compression

equipment in both Asia Pacifi c and Middle East regions and has sup-

plied and operated FPSO compression packages worldwide.

The Group has already established a relationship with Altronic to dis-

tribute its range of gas engine accessories, instrumentation and the

GTi Bi-fuel system that allows diesel engines to run on up to 70 per-

cent natural gas. Additionally, the Group has the support of Waukesha

and Caterpillar as suppliers of natural gas engine drivers. “We are also

in the process of fi nalising similar relationships with reciprocating

compressor suppliers and for rotary vane low pressure compressors

for fl are gas recovery,” confi rms Turnbull.

First established in 2005, the GPS fabrication facility at Mafraq,

Abu Dhabi, has recorded some 7.5 million manhours without

a recordable lost-time incident - a major achievement by any

reckoning. As Supreeth Attavar, GPS’ HSE Manager, MENA,

says, a record such as this is not achieved by chance, but by con-

tinual eff ort in developing and improving upon a positive safety

culture throughout the organisation. “A fi rm’s safety culture is a

key infl uence on behaviour and performance and is an important

facet of the safety management system in ensuring that employ-

ees stay safe and healthy.”

What’s behind this positive safety culture at GPS Mafraq?

• Systems & Compliance: The HSE Management system

has evolved since fi rst being implemented, and has for the

last few years been certifi ed to OHSAS 18001:2007 and ISO

14001:2004. Recertifi cation was achieved in November 2012

without a single NCR.

• Management Commitment: Management lead by example

and their presence is prominent at all times on the workshop

fl oor. A good proportion of management, supervisory and

core employees has been with GPS for fi ve years or more.

This has produced a well-oiled machine where everyone

knows what is expected of them, and goes about doing it.

• Employee Involvement: Consultation, communication and

participation of employees is ensured through the HSE Com-

mittee, where all work groups at all levels within the work-

force are represented. Regular meetings and safety tours by

Committee Members help foster a sense of ownership in HSE

as well as an understanding of issues from an employee per-

spective.

• Training & Competence: Technical and HSE training pro-

grammes provide focus in achieving expectations, helped by

the high percentage of long-term employees, resulting in an

experienced resource base and a positive work environment.

• Organisational Learning: Proactive and reactive reporting

and feedback are used to determine the way forward. Dy-

namic corrective and preventive action registers, which are

reviewed regularly by senior management, ensure focus on

tracking actions to closure, promoting a safer work environ-

ment.

Where do we go from here? What are the challenges ahead?

• Procedures: As part of our continual improvement process,

management systems are being reviewed and revised to

ensure procedures are increasingly fi t-for-purpose. This is

aligned with the global roll-out of the new GPS Integrated

Management System, as well as ongoing redevelopment

and implementation of regulatory Abu Dhabi Environment,

Health & Safety Management Systems.

• People: HSE methodology is constantly evolving - including

HSE presence, methods of promoting HSE and maintaining

awareness levels, training etc. Engagement of, involvement

in and commitment to HSE by all employees will help build

on the record of 7.5 million manhours without lost time inci-

dent of which everyone is very proud.

Cable Gland Installation Training

Site personnel based at PT Innovative Tech-

nologies (INE) in Batam recently completed

a training session in cable gland installation for oil & gas applications. Con-

ducted by leading UK manufacturer Peppers Cable Glands Ltd, the session

took participants through a step-by-step process from selecting the ap-

propriate cable gland right through to the correct method of installation.

INE General Manager Edwin Fabe said, “Incorrect installation of cable

glands can cause equipment failure, wastage of materials and loss of pro-

duction with the obvious knock-on eff ect in the fi eld. With proper training

in the correct installation practice, it is possible to ensure that the cable

gland will function as required.” INE

has been involved in a number of

projects where cables of varying

characteristics have been assem-

bled with Peppers Cable Glands

designed specifi cally for oil & gas

applications.

Batam ‘Family’ Fun-Filled Day

Another Year EndsWith Festive Fun

In Kuala Lumpur, colleagues responded well to the theme

“Around The World” which saw a wide variety of creative

outfi ts on display - intricate face-painting, historical oriental

costumes and more. The event took place far up above street

level at KL Tower with its incredible views over the city. Enter-

tainment included mysterious magicians, exotic belly danc-

ers, and performances by talented members of staff includ-

ing Tan on the violin, Mary Ann and Anizah showcasing their

wonderful voices, as well as a troupe of ‘in-house’ dancers.

Cloudy skies and the threat of stormy weather did

not dampen the spirits of the 1,150 PT GPS em-

ployees and family members who gathered together

for the fi rst ever PT GPS Family Fun Day, held at Palm

Springs Golf & Beach Resort, Nongsa, Batam.

With inter-departmental sports events, children’s

games and competitions, two magic shows – includ-

ing an excellent performance by one of our own

welders! – plus a professional singer ably supported

by a number of the employees, everyone was kept

well-entertained throughout the day.

The prize draw included items donated by generous

suppliers and business partners, with the star prize

being a Yamaha Mio motorbike, donated by Al Jaber

Heavy Lifting. Fery Faisal of Welding Department

was the lucky winner!

Employees from around the GPS Group showed

off their artistic talents at the year-end festive

celebrations held in Malaysia, Dubai and Singapore.

In Singapore, staff gathered at the Full-

erton Bay Hotel for a night of celebra-

tions to mark GPS Singapore’s seventh

anniversary. Over 125 employees and

their partners turned up in festive gear

for an evening of good food, good fun

and a charity drive.

Out In The Community

Pushing The PaceIn Aid Of Local Causes

Spreading CheerAt Local Orphanage

Make-A-WishSupport Continues

Being a keen supporter of the Malaysian-based-

Make-A-Wish Foundation, GPS sponsored a table

at the 2012 Annual Charity Auction Dinner. GPS Group

CEO Ian Prescott joined with other colleagues and as-

sociates to attend and lend their support to this wor-

thy cause.

Since fi rst learning of this charity organisation earlier

last year, GPS also took part in the Make-A-Wish An-

nual Golf Tournament helping to raise funds to grant

the wishes of underprivileged children and those with

serious or terminal illnesses. “We believe that this con-

cept leaves a trace in every child’s life who has been

granted a wish, so GPS will help grant more wishes

and make more dreams come true by maintaining our

commitment to the organisation,” Ian confi rmed.

The HSSE Training Room at PT GPS

in Batam took on the appearance

of a hospital ward recently when em-

ployees pitched in to support a blood

donation drive. The initiative was

part of the company’s commitment

to give back to the local communities

where it operates.

Organised in conjunction with the

Indonesia Red Cross - Batam Section,

and billed under the headline ‘Give

Blood, Save Life’, the event saw 128

employees from PT GPS and iNe Batam giving blood.

GPS Organising Committee members comprised Samy Awaludin, Rahmat (Roy) Wati-

mena, Christian Bawole, Yos Eff endy, Nirwani and Nia Chrislayanto, who ensured that

the entire event ran safely and smoothly.

Donating

BloodSaving Lives

Members of GPS Malaysia team spent time and eff ort spread-

ing a little Deepavali Cheer during the festive season by

helping out the children at the Sinthamani Divine Life Ashram.

The Ashram is a Shelter located in Jinjang just outside Kuala

Lumpur that accommodates 65 children of all ages, from babies

to about 18 years old. The Shelter was set up in 2001 by local resi-

dent Praveendran after he saw a child eating out of a dumpster.

He funds the Orphanage through his day job.

GPS employees mustered together and collected over RM1,000 plus clothes and shoes

donated by colleagues, groceries and toys and gifts. Arriving at the house on the day

in question, the GPS team were greeted excitedly by the children. Two of the younger

boys performed a short dance after which the toys were handed out. This just left time

for one-on-one chats with the children before lunch. The lunch was partly sponsored

by a local restaurant owner with the rest funded by the staff through their donations.

Spurred on by the initiative of keen runner and

fellow colleague Dawn Sim, over 55 GPS Singa-

pore employees donned their running kit to take

part in the Yellow Ribbon Run. The annual charity

event is held to provide support for ex-convicts to

start life afresh when they complete their prison

sentence. For every person taking part, a donation

is made to the “Yellow Ribbon Fund”.

Both the Run itself and the training time ahead of

the event provided good team-building opportu-

nities among the employees as well as enabling

them to give back to the community.

ADIPEC, the Middle East’s

largest oil and gas exhibi-

tion, closed its 2012 edition

with attendance fi gures hitting

the 50,000 mark for the fi rst

time in its history. Supported

by a conference programme

featuring 235 speakers, the

Show, which included 13

national pavilions, attracted

visitors from over 90 coun-

tries who packed out the

halls of the Abu Dhabi Na-

tional Exhibition Centre.

As GPS Business Development Manager

MENA Maher Soubra, said, “Our partici-

pation at ADIPEC emphasises the GPS

Group’s commitment to Abu Dhabi and

the region as a whole. The show was very

well-organised and we received a busy

fl ow of major key contacts to our stand

from Adma Opco, Zadco, Adco, Gasco, QP,

Aramco, KOC, PDO, Shell, ExxonMobil, BP

and other regional players.”

16

MOGSEC Malaysia

The GPS Group presence at the MOGSEC Event held at KL

Convention Centre last September was a great success

in helping to attract and meet key contacts at the company

stand. The event was attended by senior managers and Heads

of Department from major clients including PETRONAS Carigali,

Murphy Oil, Talisman, Petrofac, ExxonMobil, Shell Exploration &

Production and others. The stand also received a visit from sen-

ior executives of Yayasan Sabah with whom GPS subsequently

signed an MOU engaging GPS as its technical partner – see Page
