    COMMERCIAL BEEKEEPING

    A unique one year certifcate program

    a living as beekeepers. Classroom

    study combined with a 26 week

    industry paid practicum give students

    a headstart in this challenging

    Commercial BeekeepingThis unique program is your opportunity or an agricultural career thatsoutdoor, hands-on, enviro-riendly and has the potential to become

    a business. Commercial Beekeeping combines a thorough study obees and the business o beekeeping. Courses include bee and honey

    production, hive hygiene, integrated pest management, government

    regulations, and value-added options or commercial operations. Thisclassroom study combined with hands-on work experience and feldtrips will create a solid oundation or a career in commercial beekeeping.

    A highlight is the extensive study o queen rearing. During the workpracticum, students are placed with commercial beekeepers where they

    earn a salary while they develop practical experience with beekeepingand honey production.

    Admission RequirementsEnglish 20-2 or equivalent and Math 20-3

    or equivalent. Applicants who do not meet

    these requirements should contact the

    Registrar's ofce.

    International students must demonstrate

    profciency in English at a Level 6 and

    satisy GPRCs requirements or English

    Language Profciency. For details contact

    the Registrar. International students may

    consider enrolling in ESL programming at

    GPRC prior to the Beekeeping program

    start to ensure English competency andestablish a oundation or success in the

    program. Students must:

    Be 18 years o age

    Be in good general health as

    beekeeping is physically demanding

    Present medical documentation

    demonstrating non-allergenic reactions

    to honey bee stings as students in the

    program will experience bee stings

    Because beekeepers work with ood,

    Canadian public health regulations may

    require additional health-related testing.

    Admission to this program is on a frstqualifed, frst admitted basis.

    Program LengthOne year certifcate program - 45 weeks in

    length. Runs January to November with a

    26 week work practicum. (45 credits)

    AccreditationGraduates receive a certifcate.

    Work PracticumStudents are placed with commercial

    beekeeping operations or 26 weeks and

    paid a salary or their work.

    Career OpportunitiesThis program provides graduates with

    substantive training and practical experience

    or a uture in commercial beekeeping

    as workers, lead hands or feld managers

    or even as uture entrepreneurs/owners.

    Graduates will be employable in Canada,

    the US and other parts o the world as

    apiary assistants, technicians, managers, or

    coordinators or beekeeping/honey projects

    in the developing world.
