Power Consumption is a significant portion of your plant’soperating cost. Oversized pumps and control valves burnunnecessary energy. By adjusting the pump speed to the system demand, PumpSmart will improve your bottom line. How Much?

• A Control Valve 80% Open is Adding 40% Wasted Energy

• Reducing the Speed of a Centrifugal Pump by 20%results in a Power Reduction of 50%

Energy MonitorPumpSmart drives compute and display a continuous runningtotal of your actual energy saved in dollars and cents. Simplyinput your fixed speed power consumption and electricity rate.PumpSmart does the rest!MaintenanceReduced downtime results in reduced maintenance costs andhigher productivity rates.

Industrial Strength Pump ControlThe workhorse of the PumpSmart family, thePS200 offers process control and pump protec-tion in one easy-to-use package for virtuallyevery industrial process. With pre-programmedapplications such as pressure, flow, and levelcontrol, set-up is quick and easy. The PS200 iscapable of coordinating efforts between otherPS200 controllers as well as existing constantspeed pumps.

With the Pump Wear Monitor (PWM),PumpSmart will periodically monitor yourpump performance and automatically issuewarnings when pump wear has reduced the

performance of your pump. The PS200 canalso monitor and react to excessive bearinghousing vibrations and temperature excursionswith the addition of optional 4-20mA transmit-ters.

The PS200 can also be integrated seamlesslyinto your existing control system when anoptional Fieldbus control module is used.Available in most common protocols including:Modbus, Profibus, DeviceNet, CAN open,LonWorks, and CS-31.

PF700

DIMENSIONS

The PumpSmart PF700 couples the advancedPumpSmart control and protection algorithmswith the Allen-Bradley Power Flex 700 variablefrequency drive. Available for single pumpprocess and speed control applications, thePumpSmart PF700 can dramtatically reduceyour pump’s total life cycle costs.

With the patent pending Torque-Based PumpProtection system, the PF700 can recognize dryrunning, minimum flow, or run-out fault condi-tions without the need for costly external sen-sors. For customers that use DCS for process

control, this feature enables pump conditionfeedback while operating in either process con-trol or speed control.

The PF700 can be integrated into your currentcontrol system with optional digital communica-tions modules. Protocols currently supportedinclude: DeviceNet, ControlNet, Ethernet,Profibus, Interbus, and Remote I/O.

Unparalleled ReliabilityThe PumpSmart PS75 has been engineered to maximize your pumping system reliabilityand effectiveness, saving you time and money.

Starting / StoppingThe PumpSmart PS75 provides exceptional control of the pump and motor during start-ing and stopping sequences. This benefits both your pump system reliability as well asyour plant’s utility metrics.By starting with a controlled speed ramp, your pump builds pressure smoothly, helpingto prevent dangerous overpressure conditions and minimizing the resulting water ham-mer effects. Similarly, while stopping with a controlled speed ramp, pressure drops offgradually, preventing check valves from slamming. From the utility perspective, controlled starts minimize in-rush currents, helping to loweryour overall utility demand costs. The PumpSmart PS75 controls in-rush current to 1.1-1.5x the motor full-load amps, as compared to 5-7x for conventional across the linestarting and 3-4x for reduced voltage starting. When stopping, the controlled rampstop helps to prevent voltage imbalances in your plant that can cause damage to yourother equipment.

Right SizingPower consumption is a significant portion of your plant’s operating cost. Oversizedpumps and control valves burn unnecessary energy. The PumpSmart PS75 allows youto trim your pump output to match your overall process demand without sacrificing theability to restore capacity at a moments notice. Right-Sizing allows you to trim perfor-mance electronically instead of physically trimming your impeller. Reducing pump speed by 20% reduces head, flow, and power just like an impeller trim.Additionally, it lowers the impeller speed which improves NPSHr and reduces the risk ofcavitation. This improved performance allows you to open your control valve to reduceenergy consumption, improve controllability, and reduce the wear and tear on the valve.A 20% reduction in speed results in a 50% reduction in energy.

Pump ProtectionThe PumpSmart PS75 offers you the most advanced pump protection logic in the indus-try. PumpSmart TPP protects the pump from failing by identifying dry-run, minimumflow, and runout conditions and controlling the pump to safe operating conditions.PumpSmart TPP takes into account pump load, hydraulic effects, and mechanical loadeffects to provide accurate protection across a wide range of speeds, without theneed for external sensors.. We are so confident of PumpSmart TPP, that westand behind it with our 3-Year Reliability Challenge; a program that guarantees yourpump will not fail due to dry run, or minimum flow process upsets or your repair partsare free.

Process ControlYour pump sees it all; demand changes, supply changes, system wear, process upsets...Your pump can also respond to it all with the PumpSmart PS75 in process control mode.By responding dynamically to changes in the system, the PumpSmart PS75 can matchpump output to your current demand needs. This maximizes energy savings, systemreliability, and peace of mind.

PS10/PS20 PUMP LOAD MONITORSThe PS10 and PS20 Pump Load Monitors measure the motor input power in combination with aproprietary algorithm to accurately determine the pump’s load.

During dry-run conditions, pump power is reduced and recognized by the PumpSmart Pump LoadMonitor. During run-out conditions, power increases, which is also a recognizable condition. Powerincrease is also experienced when internal wear results from upset conditions. Customers may con-figure the devices to autmomatically shut down the pump or warn the operator via integrated relayoutput(s).

Pump Load Measurement

The instantaneous power supplied to thepump by the electrical motor ismonitoredby measuring the input poer and by cal-culating the motor power losses with aproprietary algorithm. The value of thereal motor shaft power is used to accu-rately determine overload and underloadconditions.

TECHNICAL DATA

PS10 Pump Load Monitor

The PS10 offers single underload or overload condition protection forpumps up to 40 HP (50 Amps MAX). Alarm setpoints can be enteredeither manually or automatically set using the Auto-Set functionality dur-ing normal operation.

PS20 Pump Load Monitor

The PS20 offers two underload and two overload condition protectionfunctions (four total) as well as the ability to output pump load throughan integrated 4-20 mA output. A six button keypad and LCD readoutenables greater configuration and operation options. The PS20 can beapplied on motors up to 999 F.L. Amps.

PumpSmart drive systems can be configured and packaged for the most demanding applications. Our IEEE 519 packageincludes a state-of-the-art harmonic filter to provide low levels of harmonic distortion across a broad range of speeds andloads. These levels are frequently below comparable 18 pulse drives and enable compliance to IEEE Std 519-1992.

• Features the PS200 Pump Protection Algorithms• Saves on installation cost and space — Only one footprint is

PLANT ASSESSMENTS TO IDENTIFY OPPORTUNITES TO OPTIMIZEPUMP LIFE CYCLE PERFORMANCEOptimizing pump life cycle performance provides a new path to help reduce plant-operating cost. The largest consumers of industrial motor energy, typically, are the centrifugal pumps moving fluidthroughout your operation. Recent studies show that average pumping efficiencyin industrial plants is below 40%. Pump over-sizingand throttled valves are identified as the two majorcontributors to efficiency loss. Optimizing pump performance has the potential toachieve 30% to 70% improvements in energy andmaintenance cost, while improving both pump andprocess reliability. To learn how to make a quantum leap in reducing plant operating cost, contact your local representative for more information or toarrange a plant assessment.
