GP Wing Installation Guide
First of all, thank you for the purchase.
Before you go ahead and start assembling, please read through this guide carefully.
We are not responsible for any type of damage to your vehicle due to drilling. The installation is very easy and straightforward. If you are not confident performing this installation, please take it to your local professionals.
All spoilers are sanded individually at the bracket in order to fit on the model of your choice. Blue tapes are left on the spoiler still so that you/ the body shop can do some more detail sanding to achieve better fitment. No two MINIs have the same measurement at the hatch gaps, therefore, we recommend you test fitting first before painting them.
Parts checklist: . 1) 3-‐piece GP Wing (2 sides and 1 center)
. 2) 1x bag of screws
4x long screws,
4x long screws (self tapping)
2x short screws
. 3) 2x metal brackets
. 4) 2x shark fin covers and
. 5) 2x adhesives
Required Tools/Parts: . 1) Rotary drill
. 2) Screwdriver
. 3) Small spacers (can be found in any hardware store)
. 4) Sanding paper
. 5) Blue tape
. 6) adhesive foams tape/strips
Helpful Tips: . 1) We recommend having 2 to 3 people for the installation.
. 2) We provide two types of screws for the attachment between the side wing and the hatch. One is self-‐tapping, and one is not. With different model and year, the structures of the hatch varied. Please choose the either type accordingly. Again you only need one type of the screws. At the end of the installation you should have 4 un-‐used screws that you may throw away.
. 3) We strongly suggest you to test fit the spoiler before taking it to the paint shop. As you can see from opening the package, we left the blue tape on so that you can continue working on the sanding of the brackets (the fiberglass portion) to get the best fitment. All these spoilers have been tested and they fit on our R53 and R56. However, no two cars have the same measurement for hatch door gap. Some might have tighter fit and some might not. Please test fit it on your car first before painting the parts.
1. Test Fit 1. Try the side wing on the car separately to see if the hatch closes fine.
2. After trying on both sides and making sure that they fit, put both sides on without closing the hatch and then bolt on the center blade.
3. After bolting on the center blade and make sure they are not loose, now you may close the hatch. You may need to adjust the angle of the spoiler. The two side wings should have their vertical portion parallel to each other.
2. Painting
3. Installation
1. You should now have a painted spoiler. 2. Blue tape the edges to protect the paint before the
installation. 3. Remove the plastic covers from the inside of your hatch.
4. Pull the wires away so that you don’t damage them from drilling later on.
5. Use blue tape to mark the desired drilling spot. 6. Method 1: Drill the hatch 7. Bolt on the side wing. Spacers may be needed to stabilize the
wing. You may also add foam tapes on the glass-‐touching surface.
8. Bolt on the other side of the wing and make sure both sides are at the same level.
9. Bolt on the center blade. 10. Method 2: Bolt one side of the side wing to the center blade
first. Put them on the hatch and put the other side of the side wing on.
11. Now you have the entire GP Wing on that hatch that can move freely.
12. While one person holds the wing, one person stand in behind making sure it is level and have the 3rd person drill/ bolt on both sides to the hatch.
13. Lastly, you may also remove the plastic trim with heat gun to create more space if somehow the paint of your spoiler makes the bracket thicker.
14. If you use the non self-‐tapping screws, we have metal
brackets provided for you to sandwich the hatch door for re-‐enforcement purpose.
15. The shark fin covers shouldn’t be put on if you decide to adjust the wing often.
16. Enjoy the new look of your MINI! J
