Multi Language text table

Overview:– This module explains setting up a Multi Language system in GP-

Pro EX.

Objective:– At the end of this chapter you can:

• Setup up to 16 languages• Enter, Import and Export language files• Simulate different languages in the Editor• Apply Text Table text to objects• Change Language during runtime• Convert single language projects to Multi Language

Multi Language Setup

The Multi Language function in GP-Pro Ex is called “Text Table”.To start using this function use the Common Settings > Text Table menu and select Language Change.Add the runtime language selection address (internal, logic or PLC) and makeup to 16 table names (languages)In the Language Column selectthe correct character set type.

Entering Translations

In the Text Table columns are added for each configured language table.Each row in the table consists of the length, number of lines and the translations for each text item.Multi line text is shown with \n to indicate that the following text is displayed on the next line.

Selecting tables for Display

Use the Select Tables to Show link to select only those languages (columns) that should be displayed in the editor.This does not affect the runtime:all languages will still be available.

Exporting Tables

Use the Export link to select the file encoding, file name and which tables to export.

A text or CSV file will be generated with the selected languages.Translations can now be entered even if thetranslator does not have theGP-Pro EX editor.After translation the CSV orText file can be imported.

Output Text tables for online updating

Text Table data can be saved in external memory (CF or USB) and used to update Text Table data in the display unit during startup or from the offline menu.This allows updating of alarm message text and labels without using the editor.

To use this feature go to Display Unit->System Settings->Extended Settings->Load Text Table and check the [Enable Load Text Table] box.

Create the Text files from the Text Table menu under Utility and “Create Display Unit File”

Importing Translations

Use the Import link to add translations made outside the GP-Pro EX editor to the text table.After selecting the file the Table Name is read from the file.Using the Import Destination list the translation can be imported overwriting an existing table or entered into an availableempty table.

Selecting the Editor Display Language

The Editor defaults to the first language table.To see how objects are affected by translation the View toolbar can be used to select any text table.All objects on the screen with a Text Table label setting will be displayed in the selected language.The text selection list will also be displayed in the selected language.

Using Text Table entries in Labels

To use the Text Table open any object with a label setting (including alarm messages) that allows switching from direct text to text table.Once Text Table is selected the text to use can be selected from a drop down list.Note up to V2.50 Image fonts are notavailable when usingtext table.

Automatic Text Size Adjustment

Different languages may use longer or shorter words for the same meaning.For Stroke Font only, the text may be automatically resized when changing languagesSpecify the minimum and maximum point size

Changing languages at runtime

To change languages during runtime write the Table (column) number of the language to display to the control word address entered in the Text Table Setup.The example below writes the value 2 to the control word.In this casetable 2 is theSpanish text.

Text Table Utilities

Convert to Text Table allows projects which were created with “Direct” text to be converted to “Text Table” in order to use the Multilanguage feature. Select it from the Project Menu:

Note: There is no “Undo” for this utility so make sure a backup file is created first !!!
