• Training for repair and Maintenance of D.T.with the help of (a) National Skill Development Mission (b) NABARD © Panchayat

• Constitution of Division level District programme management unit (DPMU).

• Involvement of Jal sahiya at village level in programme implementation.

• Regulating Drilling of Tube Wells.

• Shifting from ground to surface water.

• Construction of RWH/GWR structure to check the receding of quantity & quality of ground water.

• Management of industrial and Municipal waste under pollution control Act.

• PPP mode for O & M of water Supply Scheme.

• Promotion of Mass Awareness & Training Programmes on Rain Water Harvesting & Artificial Recharge to Ground Water through Govt. Agencies / NGO’s / VO’s / Educational Institutions / Industries / Individuals.

information-

• Involvement of PRI’s.

• Formation of 9 member VWSC.

• Power to Panchayat for management of water supply to community.

• Empowerment of community in preparation of schemes, selection of site and IEC etc. for better out come of the scheme.

Approach 5. Technology and Innovation-

• Equipping the field officers with GPS to identify the aquifers.

• Development of hydrological maps.

• Use of non conventional source of energy like solar and wind energy.

• Recycle of waste water.

• Rural scheme with solar pump.

• Use of prefabricated water tanks.

• Phase wise coverage of sewerage system in urban areas.

Over Exploited Blocks (2008-09)

Chemical contamination due to over exploitation of ground water

• Extraction of ground water leads to chemical contaminations

• Number of hand pumps/population ratio corroborates this like districts of Jamtara and Khunti

• Mineral rich areas like West Singhbhum also has contamination of iron on a large scale

• Regulation is required for extraction of ground water

Sustainability of Sources/Schemes

• There is urgent need take measures to check the receding ground water levels.

• Ground Water Structures and schemes will not only recharge the aquifers but also help to reduce the chemical contamination.

• Various other techniques are available for this, which will bring sustainability to the schemes.
