National Service Scheme (N.S.S.) 2017-18

Introduction:-The N.S.S. has been established by the central government to commemorate

Mahatma Gandhis birth centenary in the year 1969. The scheme promotes Gandhian thought of the rural development and self-dependence.

The N.S.S. department has been actively functioning right from the inception of the college in 1996. The N.S.S. intends to inculcate the qualities of self-dependence, social sensibility, honesty and dignity of labour.

The college runs all the programmes and activities designed by the ministry of youth affairs and sports and Gondwana University, Gadchiroli. The college has the N.S.S. Unit of 50 volunteers and two program Officers. Objectives of N.S.S.:-

To know the society in which we live and work To make oneself competent to understand the society To know the needs problems of society and try to work out solutions for such

problems. To inculcate leadership quality to strengthen democracy of the nation To reduce the gap between literate and illiterate people To preach and develop national integrity To help the poor and weaker sections of our society.

Nature of N.S.S.:-The N.S.S. implements programmes in two chief ways -Each enrolled N.S.S. Volunteer needs to contribute 120 clocks for the social work. Following types of activities are run in and around the college campus.

Regular Activities

Cleanliness activities. Tree-Plantation. Blood group checking and Blood donation camp. Visit to Matoshree old Age Center

Swachhta Pakhwara:Swachha Pakhwara was conducted by the NSS unit during 1st-15th August 2017

in college campus and Old age home, Visapur, Chandrapur . The events were started with cleanliness oath on 1st August. Pledge was administered at college by students

Posters were put up on the notice boards to aware students about cleanliness. Class to class messages of cleanliness awareness programmes were organised to

college students.

Every day 3 hours devoted on cleanliness of class rooms, laboratories and college campus by 50 NSS Volunteers from 1st Aug to 15th Aug 2017 and observed “Swachhta Pakhwara” successfully.

NSS unit visited the ‘Matoshree’ Old age home, Visapur, Chandrapur, premises was cleaned by volunteers and fruits & sweets were distributed among the residents of old age home.

Celebration of Independence Day(15th August 2017) and Republic Day (26th January 2018)

NSS unit participated in the parade march and celebration of Independence Day and republic day. The unit gathered in the college at 7.30 am for the flag hosting

ceremony. Students delivered speeches about freedom fight and meaning of independence and importance of constitution.

NSS Day Celebration: NSS was formally launched on 24th September, 1969, the birth centenary year of

the Father of the Nation. Therefore, 24 September is celebrated every year as NSS Day. All NSS Volunteers celebrated NSS day by performing skits to create awareness on the topics like status of women in India, blood donation, Swachhta abhiyaan, etc.

Blood Donation camp:The NSS unit organized blood donation camp and collected 125 Units of blood in

association with Blood Transfusion Centre, General Hospital, Chandrapur on 13th march 2018. Camp was organised in the Institute’s Building.
