The Democrats benefit when the income decreases. Elizabeth Rigby states that low-income voters are aligned with Democratic party and the wealthier voters are aligned with the Republicans. (Rigby) There is more low-income people today than there is wealthy. According to Thomas Edsall, the average taxpayers income fell but those in the top 0.01% income increased.(Edsall) Since the low-income people need help they will vote for the Democrats, who want to give assistance to those who need it. The wealthy, who have plenty of money, will vote for social standing. The median household income for the United States fell from 2007 to 2012 and is at its lowest since 1996. (Abraham) The Democrats will get more votes because there are more people in the average to low income class than there is in the top income society.
