  • I love Instagram, says Kevin Harter, the vice presi-

dent of fashion at Bloomingdales. I always say its kind

of my little diary, telling stories without having to write.

Because of the field Im in, images say more than words

    canusually.

While Harters job often has him traveling around the

world (recent stops have included Paris, London, and

Copenhagen), when hes back in town he likes to unwind

at a spot close to home: Brooklyn Bridge Park (above).

Ive lived in Brooklyn for 10 years, he says. That

[view], between Piers 1 and 2, right past the Fulton Ferry

Landing, is one of my favorites because you can see the

skyline and the park. Ive been running down there for

yearsI took that photo right after workand looking

at the waterfront is still emotional for me. By living near

it, I always say that I have the best of both worlds: Im a minute away from

Manhattan, but I also get to enjoy the uniqueness of Brooklyn.

Harter and his family take advantage of the park year-round. It changes

personality throughout the seasons, he says. In the fall, the colors with all

the leaves are beautiful. Despite his time on the road,

he follows the parks development as closely as he stud-

ies fashion trends. Every six months, a new chapter

unfolds there. When theyre opening a new part of the

park, Im like an excited little kid.

While Brooklyn Bridge Park and its environs are a

common subject for his trusty iPhone camera, Harters

Instagram images encompass everything from his chil-

dren (31 -year-old twins Alexander and Jake) to his

globetrotting. I focus on my kids, he says. Its a fun

way to look back at how quickly theyve grown.

So is he likely to swap his iPhone camera for a Nikon

DSLR? Ive always had a passion for photography, but

unfortunately Ive never taken it to the next step, Harter

says. But I like to take lots of pictures. I have drawers full

of them. Asked to name his favorite photographers, he chooses fashion leg-

end Mario Testino and up-and-comer Ryan Holden Singer, among others.

There is one photographic subject that Harter steers clear of, however:

street style. I really leave that to the professionals, he says. G

  • After a year of successful expansion

in Europe and Asia, Furla, the

    Bologna-based brand known for

    accessibly priced fine leather goods,

expands in the US with its first

    brick-and-mortar shop on Fifth

    Avenue. We were waiting

for the right time and place to tap

further into the US market, says

CEO Eraldo Poletto. We felt it was

important to ground the brand with

a flagship in this prime location,

which we see as key to breaking into

the US market in a way we have

    never done before. A capsule

    collection of bags, small leather

    goods, and accessories sporting

    unique New Yorkinspired details

    are available exclusively at the

flagship store to mark the opening.

Along with this special line, the

    store carries the Fall/Winter 2015

    collection. Both the capsule and

    seasonal collections focus on

four classic bag styles: the iconic

    Metropolis cross-body bag, the

Piper bag in bold color blocks, the

    bucket-style Viva, and the Diana,

a small chain-strap model The store

    opening coincides with the launch

    of the Fall/Winter campaign, shot

by Mario Testino, as well as the

    unveiling of a new footwear

    collection. Shoe designs range from

    timeless kitten heels to sleek

    sneakers, each defined by an

    on-trend pointed toe, and available

    in Furlas signature materials,

    including brushed calfskin, patent

    leather, and suede. G

// celebrate // AFTER THE PARADE

If youre planning to take in the

    Macys Thanksgiving Day Parade, you

may want to forgo an elaborate

turkey-day prep. If so, Daniel Bouluds

    picerie Boulud, conveniently located

    near the parade route (1900

    Broadway, 212-595-9606), has

    created a full Thanksgiving

    feast to go, featuring every-

    thing from a whole roasted

    turkey to scrumptious kabocha

    squash stuffed with bacon,

    candied pecans, and Comt cheese.

Those looking to dine out should

head to Michael Whites Marea (240

    Central Park S., 212-582-5100) a few

    blocks south, where the prix-fixe

menu will include his famous lobster

and Burrata appetizer and a tradi-

tional turkey with pan gravy. We

have mashed potatoes that might not

be grandmas, says chef di cucina

Lauren DeSteno, but I promise theyll

be so good that you wont care.

Top Toque TomeSLOW FIRES IS A HOT NEW RELEASE. BY JULIET IZON

Hotel Chantelle puts a new spin on an old favorite.

No place in the city likely makes a more decadent pot pie than

the restaurant at Hotel Chantelle. Chef Seth Levine gives the

cold-weather classic an elegant twist by substituting luscious

chunks of Maine lobster for poultry. With so many foodies out

there, he says, replacing the common ingredient with a higher-

end product makes for a top-selling dish. Along with the lobster

is a creamy stew of pearl onions, peas, and carrots, topped with

a crispy and delicate puff pastry. We recommend savoring it

while enjoying the winter view from the hotels (heated!) rooftop.

favorite of President Obama; 345 Park Ave. S., 212-686-

1006), will have his first cookbook published this month.

Focusing on the kitchen techniques that have made him

famous, Slow Fires dives deep into deceptively simple

skills like braising, roasting, and grilling, while also

revealing secrets for creating great sauces and finishes,

whether anchovy powder or a Parmesan-pecorino broth.

When Im standing over a cutting board with a stockpot

sputtering behind me, a roast in the oven, and shallots

mellowing in vinegar off to the side, says Smillie, Im in
