It’s definitely a different approach to
titling a CD. From March 11th through
March 20th, Arrow Records gave fans a
chance to name Canton Jones' next album,
with a “Whatchamacallit” contest.
The winning submission was, “The
Interview, The Question, The Answer,”
from Isaac Blanco. The grand prize
package for Blanco will include: a Canton
Jones Anthology (complete collection of
Arrow Records catalog of Canton Jones
autographed CD’s), autographed CD, and
a t-shirt as well as inclusion on the next
album. The project is set for a Fall 2009
release.

Is “Angels and Demons” Real?by Bishop Andy C. Lewter, Jr
In 2003, Movie Director and producer Ron Howard took the story authored by Dan Brown,
entitled “The Da Vinci Code” and released a movie that took the public by storm with
suggestions that Jesus could have been married and produced a royal line of descendants
with members who remain today.
With the release of Dan Brown’s most recent work, “Angels and Demons”, there is
speculation as to whether or not the church community will once more be subjected to wild
speculation and imagination. However, the anticipated threat from Dan Brown is minimized
due to the fact that the plot and narrative of this new movie seems to concentrate on the
activities of the Vatican and the Roman Catholic Church, which most in the historic Black
Church are removed from.
However, the attention that is being directed to “Angels and Demons” is reason for us to
examine its impact and influence upon the body of Christ as we know it. One of the sub-
plots of the movie has to do with the assumed conflict between faith and science. The
movie suggest that the danger being posed to the vatican is the revenge of scientists
against the church for oppressing them centuries earlier.

zineG O S P E LT O DAY O N L I N E Former NBA-er &
Jazz artistWayman Tisdale,
dies at 44
Former NBA player and jazz musician Wayman
Tisdale passed away Friday, May 15, 2009 after
a two-year battle with cancer. Tisdale died
Friday morning at the age of 44 at St. John
Medical Center in Tulsa, OK.
Tisdale was diagnosed with bone cancer
in March 2007 and had part of his right leg
amputated due to the cancer in August 2008,
causing him to wear a prosthetic. Living with the
struggles of being an amputee first hand, Tisdale
was set to launch the Wayman Tisdale
Foundation as a means to help amputees cope
both emotionally and financially with their new
lifestyle.
Tisdale played in the NBA for 12 years
with the Indiana Pacers, Sacramento Kings and
Phoenix Suns and recently received the
Legends Award from the NBA Retired Players
Association. The 6-foot-9 forward averaged 15.3
points for his professional career and was on the
1984 U.S. Olympic gold medal winning team.
Tisdale still holds Oklahoma's career scoring and
rebounding records with 2,661 points and 1,048
rebounds. In 1997, Tisdale became the first
Oklahoma University player in any sport to have
his jersey number retired.
After basketball, Tisdale became an
award-winning jazz musician, with several
albums making the top 10 on the Billboard
charts. As a bass guitarist, he released 12 studio
albums starting with Power Forward in 1995 and
most recently Rebound in 2008. In 2002, he was
awarded the Legacy Tribute Award by the
Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame. Most recently,
Tisdale had been preparing for a series of jazz
festival tour dates. He will still be inducted into
the Oklahoma Hall of Fame on November 12th,
2009.
Before his tragic death on May 15, 2009,
former NBA player and Smooth Jazz artist
Wayman Tisdale created The Wayman Tisdale
Foundation, which is committed to making a
difference in the lives of individuals with cancer
as well as amputees. "I believe the best way to
help is to provide support and resources. I know
we can make a difference one person, one
family at a time".
Tisdale is survived by his wife Regina,
four children Tiffany, Danielle, Gabrielle and
Wayman II and his granddaughter Bailey.
Donations can be made to:

Angels and Demons..cont
movie suggest that the danger being
posed to the vatican is the revenge of
scientists against the church for
oppressing them centuries earlier.
The truth of the matter is that most of
the developments of science is the
result of what the church initially
sponsored. For us who are members
of the Gospel community, it is
important that we acquaint ourselves
with the history of the church and not
just that which is found in the pages of
the Bible.
While the material that makes up
Church History is considered boring to
most Christians, we contend that an
ignorance of Church History sets one
up to be misled and confused by much
of what we find in the world today.
While it is true that there did exist a
group called the “Illuminati” and that
there are several works of the
Renaissance artist, Bernini, all of
which is detailed in the book and
movie “Angels and Demons, the
conclusions of the book is a flight of
fantasy that has no real opportunity to
interrupt what we historically believe.
Against the backdrop of the release of
Angels and Demons, we recommend
our readers to consider adopting the
following actions.
1. Renew your efforts to
understand some of what has gone
on in the wider church world over
the last two thousand years.
2. Do not allow Hollywood and the
media to be a substitute for your
own personal study and research of
topics that interest and fascinate
you.
3. Understand that any activities
that is based upon entertainment will
not provide you with the most
accurate explanation to question
that you may have about your faith
and spirituality.
