TRANSCRIPT

  • As we edge closer to the closing

of the liturgical year, the Church

    selects readings that remind us

of the final close: the second

    coming of Christ. It's easy,

perhaps, to forget that this is

a dogma of our Catholic faith.

We see this dramatic end times

    language in today's Gospel. "The

sun will be darkened ... and the

stars will be falling from the sky."

    As Christians and as human

beings, we know all things will

come to an end. "But of that day

or hour, no one knows." The "end

of the world" and end of time

at Jesus' coming is in a future

unknown. But God has given us

    beautiful reminders of this truth.

We see the signs and symbols

of ending all around us -- nightfall

at the end of each day; the

life cycle of crops coming alive,

    bearing fruit, and being harvested;

our own death. That, too, will

come at an unknown day and

hour. But that is the way of things.

Even as God created in Genesis,

He gave us a sense of time -- the

sun rising and setting, a beginning

and an end -- to mark our days.

So how do we welcome these

    built-in forms of measurement?

Do we take time to quietly

recollect at the end of each

day? Do we see every morning

as a fresh start for mercies new?

Do we observe the seasons and

reflect on what they might be

speaking to us of God and His

    glory? "Heaven and earth will

pass away, but my works will not

    pass away." The little beginnings

    and little ends are opportunities

to renew our faith in Jesus, if

only we have the eyes to see!

Handbell Substitutes Needed Our Handbell Choir is in need of musicians who are willing

to serve as “substitutes” on an occasional basis when regular

members are absent. If interested, your name will be on our

substitute call list and members will call you to fill-in for them at

rehearsal or Mass. Because substitute handbell ringers only ring

occasionally, it is necessary that substitute ringers have musical

knowledge and good sight-reading skills (if you do not have experience ringing,

don’t worry, we’ll teach you!) If you are interested, email Jeanne Anne

    at [email protected].

Advent Sales Prepare your “domestic church” for

    Advent. The weekend of December

1st and 2nd we will have Advent

wreaths and candles for sale. We will

also have Oplatki for sale. Oplatki is

a special wafer shared with family

    during a

    Christmas

    meal to offer

    prayers of

    thanksgiving

    for family

    and friends.

Bethlehem Arts We will host representatives of the Catholic Christian

Community from Jerusalem and Bethlehem in the Holy

Land who will be displaying handcrafted olive wood

    religious figurines and articles.

    Please consider purchasing a gift

    of handcrafted olive wood religious

figurines and articles that will be

    available for purchase in the

Gathering Space after all Masses the

    weekend of November 24th & 25th.

Sharing Tree Next weekend, you will find our

    annual Sharing Tree located in

    the Gathering

    Space. Please stop

    by the tree and

    pick up an angel

    tag to purchase

    a gift for the less

    fortunate in our

    community. See

    the poster under

    the tree for

For people who have lost a loved one, the holidays can be an especially difficult time. That is why each year for the past 28 years “The Tree of Memories” and the Tree Lighting Ceremony have been a part of the holiday season.

This is a non-denominational ceremony thus including all faiths. The way to remember a loved one is simple. You can choose an ornament you would like to see on the tree that commemorates your loved one.

Your ornament can be homemade, purchased, or an ornament that is part of your family collection. Each ornament is registered, numbered, and hung lovingly on the tree. It remains on the tree throughout the holidays; then is gently removed, carefully stored and returned to the tree for holiday seasons to come. The memory of your loved one will be celebrated each year.

Ornaments may be registered December 1st through December 30th. Please join us for our Christmas program, followed by light refreshments.
