Parent Opinion Survey Attached to this week’s newsletter is your annual Parent Opinion Survey. Every school gets assessed by their parents each year. In a large school only 15 percent of the parents get asked – in a small school all the parents are asked. The questions are about OUR SCHOOL not the Education Department in general. There is a short turn around with sending them out and returning them (determined by the Department). Forms need to be back to school by THIS FRIDAY. Please send them back to school sealed in the envelope provided – the name on the back is just for us to know who has sent it in and who we need to chase up. The contents are completely confidential – School Council will see the results once they are released – but that is only after they have been collated. The Department take seriously the opinion of parents – comparing the results from year to year and then work with me to increase them.
Parent Club Plates Fundraiser The final date for ordering the plates (and other items) is THIS FRIDAY. Next week all students who have an order will be creating their artwork – after this the artwork will be viewed by parents before the final drawing is sent off to be made. Come and see me if you need more information about this.
Grade 5/6 Fundraiser
$1 Friday
Hot Chocolates will be available to purchase EVERY FRIDAY for the rest of winter.
PARENTS CLUB Not much to report from Parents Club. Picture Plate drawings by the children will be sent home over the next couple of weeks for approval by the parents. We hope to have the Orders into Picture Products on or about 15th August. Two of the Tyre Veggie Garden’s in Grannie’s Grove have been planted out. Parent’s Club will source more soil to fill the other tyres over the coming weeks. Father’s Day stall will be held on 2nd September.
Writing Checklists and Learning Goals I was very excited to share with the Prep / One parents last Monday our new Writing Checklists. I will be sharing these with any interested parents next Monday morning in the Staffroom, along with our Maths Rockets. The main focus of these books are allowing EACH child to know where they are in writing and maths and more importantly what they need to focus on next to improve. All students worked with their writing teacher last Friday to work out their current writing goal. Students will also be writing Reading, Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry and Probability and Statistics goals. They will also have a goal focussing on their learning (how they act when they are learning). The maths goals will be determined at the beginning of each of the maths topics – the new topics begin next week (assessments are happening this week of their current topics). The reading, writing and social goals will be sent home by the end of the week so you know what they are working on. The maths ones will be sent home once they are determined. The goals will be reviewed, refined and changed on a monthly basis and for maths at the beginning of each topic.
Welcome Shay I would like to welcome Shay to the Grade 4/5/6 classroom. It is great to have a new friendly face at our school. Grade Prep/1 Spelling Homework With the changes in the homework books for Grade Prep and one there are now several activities listed for each week – this was done as there was spare space. The expectation is to complete at least 3 of these each week. Spelling Homework in general The activities listed in the Spelling Homework books are just suggestions (parents asked for these a few years ago). If you don’t have a dictionary or the words are too tricky to put in a sentence – choose another activity. The aim is for the words to be written out to make memory easier. All students (except for the Preps) use these activities when they are doing their classroom Spelling Bucket so they should know what to do or of an alternative to use. Cooking Hopefully you noticed some food come home last Friday – this term
we are adding Cooking to our program on a regular basis. The cost of this was a part of the school fees.
The timing of the lessons depends on what else is happening in the classrooms, which also determines if it
is whole school cooking or just one class at a time. All students will be cooking an equal amount. Usually
the students work in groups of 4 – so they get to eat / bring home a quarter of the cooking each week.
