Gorillas are just about 4 1/2 pounds at birth. Their mother carries them around in her arms until they can grab her fur, and then they ride on the mother’s back. When gorillas are about 3 1/2 or 4 years old, they get around on their own, though they may stay close to their mothers for a while.
