Chapter XXXVII: Sacred Vow

Even though Tiffany didn't want to go to check out the rumors, she hadto. She had her black notebook against her chest while she stared longingly outof the car's window. Ironically even though she was the leader of the AsianGossip Girls, she didn't exactly like her position as the biggest gossiper. Afterher friends in her group graduated last year, she was promoted to the leader byseniority. And now, with Eunice and Jennifer looking up to her, how could shepossibly leave the group?

"Should I quit the group?" asked Tiffany solemnly out loud."What?" cried the other two girls.Tiffany gave them a weak smile. "Nothing." Tiffany lowered her eyes to

the notebook. "Only one more year to go after all...""Besides Tiffy," said Jennifer, creating broken hearts with her hands

already. "If you leave the group, where would you go?""I can be a wanderer for a while and then settle with the tennis girls or

something."Both Jennifer and Eunice became tearful at the news. "No!""I'm playing," said Tiffany in a tired voice. "I can't leave you two alone.

Besides, the school wouldn't be the same without us around right? Only WilsonHigh has the Asian Gossip Girls. We're a tradition that can't be broken right?"

"Right!" chanted Eunice and Jennifer happily.However, in the back of Tiffany's mind, she wanted the tradition to end.

Maybe after Eunice and Jennifer graduated, the Asian Gossip Girls would be nomore. Knowing the two girls, they would be unable to recruit anyone else intothe group. This was Tiffany's job as the leader and since she wanted the groupto die, she didn't recruit anyone new on purpose. The pressure of being theleader of the Asian Gossip Girls was too much at times. She didn't want anyoneelse to suffer her fate.

"No one else..." said Tiffany to herself in thought.***********************************

Feeling someone hug him from the side, Kristian smiled in his sleep. Hecould feel the warmth of the person next to him and take in the scent of freshshampoo. Judging by the sound outside his room, it was probably closer tonoon. He didn't like waking up before ten in the morning on a Saturdayanyways. It was better to sleep in.

"Rin-chan, you vixen," said Kristian, muttering out loud. "I thought yousaid you didn't want to share a room last night. Changed your mind already?"When Kristian opened his eyes, he gawked at the sight of Crystal ready to usean iron on his torso. "Get off me! Get off me you evil woman!"

"Aw, so close," said Crystal, getting off the bed and pouting. She wascareful with placing down the iron on its side. "At least you haven't discoverRed yet."

"Who's Red?" demanded Kristian, sweating and sitting up straight. Thenhe realized something was moving around under his sheets. "Holy-"

At all the curse words, Rin rushed in with Jinx who followed slowlybehind, almost apathetically. Inside, Rin found Kristian wrestling with Crystalon top of his bed. She glared at Kristian. Kristian felt sight of her glare and

turned his head quickly. Then, he noticed that he was inappropriately trying topull Crystal's shirt off."It's not what you think!" said Kristian, realizing his mistake.Rin refused to listen, turned on her heels, and went the opposite

direction. Kristian told Crystal to hurry and remove the scorpion from his room.Then, he made a dash after Rin, grabbing her arm. Angry, Rin tried to hit himbut his quick reflexes allowed him to grab her hand with his free hand. Withtheir arms crisscrossed, both of them had no choice but to release the otherone.

"Think about it clearly Rin-chan," said Kristian right when Rin was aboutto leave. "Would I be stupid enough to invite another girl over when my

girlfriend is sleeping over at my house? Besides," Kristian gave her a dangerouslook. "Why would I of all people contemplate cheating?"Rin froze in her tracks and dropped her head at the mention of Kristian's

past. "That was wrong of me.""I'm not mad," said Kristian quickly, sensing the regret in Rin's voice."Yeah," said Rin weakly, turning around to face Kristian and the others.

"Then she is-""His soulmate," said Crystal automatically, beaming."She meant," said Kristian warningly through gritted teeth. "His cousin .""Ah," said Rin, showing an obvious sign of relief. "Like Jinx!""Yes," said Crystal, approaching Rin with an open hand. The two shook

quickly. "My name is Crystal Shiratori. I'm Kristian's Uncle's daughter. You mustbe the infamous Rin Hamada I've heard so much about!""Oh really," said Rin, tossing Kristian a wary look. "Infamous hm?"The Japanese boy coughed loudly. "Anyways, Rin-chan, the reason why I

texted Crystal to come over is to lend some clothes to you.""Clothes?" asked Rin, confused."Remember the bet?" asked Kristian, smirking now.Flushing slightly, Rin said quickly, "I can buy my own skirts just fine!""Nonsense," said Kristian, waving it off. "Then, when you don't show up

with a skirt to school, you'll tell me that you didn't have time to go shoppingover the weekend thanks to schoolwork and studies." Rin glanced away. "See? I

know you too well Rin-chan. You'll do anything to get out of this bet.""If that's so," said Rin, working out her thoughts. "You can take meshopping and make sure I buy the skirts myself..."

"Nice try," said Kristian, licking his lips. "There are a lot of ways you canget away with that. What if you didn't bring any money on you? What if youwon't let me pay for them? When it comes to money, lots of issues will comeup. Believe me."

"But..." said Rin, shifting her attention to Crystal. "You can't make your

clothes before she picked up a jean skirt. "I think this works well with yourpetite figure, Rin Hamada. You should try it on with..." Crystal picked up a

pretty white blouse. "With this shirt.""Okay," said Rin, accepting the clothes. She closed the door all the waybefore she began to take off her clothes in front of Crystal. "So why are youKristian's soulmate?"

"Oh," laughed Crystal. "I probably shouldn't have said that in front of hisgirlfriend."

"But why?" asked Rin, not letting it go.Crystal clasped her fingers together. "Kristian and I have known each

other for a long time. Kristian and I share the same interests and hobbies. Weare alike in almost every way possible. I guess you can call me the femaleversion of Kristian." Rin took off her jeans and nodded. "We make up for each

other weaknesses too. Thanks to Kristian, I'm a stronger person as well. Aren'twe perfect for each other?""Do you like Kristian?" asked Rin, almost hesitating to ask such a

question."You know," said Crystal, lifting a brow. "I can easily lie to you." She

giggled and waved it off at the sight of Rin's face. "No, I'm not going to. Even if we're not blood-related, I have no interest in Kristian. I already have feelingsfor someone else."

"You're not blood-related?" cried Rin, louder than she was supposed to.Crystal hid her giggles behind her hand. "We're not. I'm adopted into the

family."

"Oh...""It was a shocking transition to be frank," said Crystal, twirling her longhair around. "The orphanage I grew up in was so poor. We had one meal a dayand the living conditions were terrible. Then, out of nowhere, I was chosen tobe my father's daughter." Crystal stared at the ground and smiled. "In a singleday, I became one of the richest girls ever. I used to live in Beverly Hills."

"Oh wow," said Rin with wide eyes."I hate all the boys there though and I didn't want to go to Beverly Hills

High," said Crystal, frowning. "And I want to live a normal life so I beggedDaddy to let me move and live closer to Kristian and Jinx, my cousins. I tookmy entire wardrobe and live with Daddy's close friend."

"So you don't see your father often?"Crystal snorted. "Yeah right!""I see," said Rin, frowning."Since I adapted to my new lifestyle, I became like this," said Crystal,

shrugging her pretty shoulders. "If you ever come to Beverly Hills, you'll noticeten-year-olds who act like eighteen-year-olds. It's really scary. Sadly enough,most of the girls are so unhappy there."

"I can't imagine that," said Rin in awe.

"It's true," said Crystal immediately. "They may not have financialproblems but we have a lot of other stupid issues to deal with. And no," Crystalwinked. "It has nothing to do with our hair and nails."

"Then what is it?" asked Rin curiously."For some girls, they are overshadowed by their parents," said Crystal,

shrugging again. "For others, they feel like they don't have the freedom to go tocertain places. A lot of them are pressured to become ideal ladies of society.It's really crappy there."

"I always assumed rich people...""Are happy?" asked Crystal in place of Rin. Rin nodded sadly. "Urban

legend. Those girls go through the same issues as every girl. We're all one andthe same. The difference is we're forced to mature and become adults soonerbecause our parents have more money."

"I feel bad now," said Rin softly under her breath."Why?" asked Crystal, peering at her."I'm so cynical," said Rin, laughing weakly. "I don't know why but I always

look down on others because I can see how terrible they all are on the outside.Before this year, I didn't care to look past that. Never would I imagine thatthere are more to people than their selfish, immature selves."

"Now I'm lost," said Crystal, admiring Rin in her received clothes. "Whywould you date Kristian then? He's quite a jerk isn't he?"

"He is," said Rin, groaning at the thought."He's also egotistic-""Pigheaded, arrogant, eccentric," said Rin, sighing at the list. Crystal

started laughing at her. "Brilliant and talented in every way possible. It's notfair."

"You don't say," said Crystal, interested now.

"It's not fair at all," said Rin angrily. "It's not fair that he's a naturalgenius! It's not fair that he's good at everything he does!" Crystal knew she wasin for a rant so she quickly sat down. "He's funny and witty. He knows what tosay to make you feel better. He's athletic, strong, and smart. He's the best inhis debate team. He knows how to socialize and make friends. He can makeany girl fall for him. He didn't even try and he got a 2380 on his SAT! Hell, heeven has a photographic memory and he has instant recall!"

"What's instant recall?" asked Crystal, interrupting."It means that he only needs to hear a piece of music once before he can

copy it perfectly on the piano," said Rin through gritted teeth."Oh yeah," said Crystal, agreeing. "He's good at that."

"How is that fair Crystal?" asked Rin, frustrated."Aren't you smarter than him? You are valedictorian right?"At the mention, Rin started feeling down. "You have no idea. I'm not

smart. Actually, I'm not even close to what smart is. I don't think I'm evenaverage. The average person can read a book and get it after three tries. It'llprobably take me four or more."

"Really," said Crystal in disbelief."I'm a slow reader and I'm an even slower learner," said Rin sadly.

"But you're valedictorian! You must be doing something right!""It's because of my personality," said Rin, sitting down and staring at

herself in the mirror. Even though Crystal was younger, she looked older thanksto Rin's baby face. "I'm a perfectionist. Actually, I don't even know what you callit. Perfectionist is probably not the right word."

"You can tell me about it," said Crystal, approaching Rin from behind."While you do that, I'll put on some light makeup for you!" Rin shook her headfrantically. "Don't worry! I'm good with makeup! And you'll look really prettywith makeup. Just try it for once okay?"

"If you insist," said Rin, sighing. She gave up on trying to argue her wayout of this. "I'm the type of person who is not satisfied until I'm the best in theclass."

"You're one of those people...""Yes," said Rin with a nod. "If I got a 99% on a test, I would still hate

myself if someone else in the class got 100%. I can't stand being second. I wantto be perfect... I want to be as close to perfect as possible. I hate losing out to

anyone in my grade. It's not even a hard school so why should I be second tosomeone else? It's inconceivable.""Have you always been like this Rin Hamada?" asked Crystal, opening her

makeup kit."Since elementary school when my father left Mother and I behind," said

Rin under her breath. Crystal heard it though and gawked at Rin. "Father's asurgeon. He came over here for high school and eventually graduated fromUCLA medical school. Then, he went back to Japan and left us behind."

"I'm sorry," said Crystal automatically."Mother's a housewife," continued Rin in a monotone. "He's the one who

sends us money monthly to live here. I can't stand it. Why do we have to rely

on someone who left us years ago? That's why I want to become a surgeon... abetter one than he ever was and provide for mother by myself.""That's ambitious.""I had that thought since he left us when I was young," said Rin, staring

at her own hands on top of her lap. "Back in elementary school, I studied hardto make my parents happy. They were always so proud of me when my reportcard came out with perfect grades. It was the joy on their faces that motivatedme. Therefore, by the time I decided to become a better surgeon than myfather, it wasn't a huge transition. My goals changed, that's all. I was still thesame as ever."

"And you talk about me being mature," said Crystal jokingly.

Rin flushed red. "It's not maturity really...""Sure, it is," said Crystal, starting with powder on Rin's face. "A child thatwants to be number one no matter what? Most kids worry about what's forlunch at that age." Rin smiled weakly at Crystal's words. "You might not besmart but you're hardworking, Rin Hamada. To be honest," Crystal laughed."When Kristian mentioned your name in the past, I thought you looked like atypical nerd with glasses and everything. I didn't think you'll be so cute!"

"I'm not cute," said Rin, upset.

"Sure you are," said Crystal, picking up lipstick. "Lipstick?""Definitely not!"Giggling at Rin's reaction, Crystal placed the lipstick down. "So what's

the deal with you and Kristian? I can tell he likes you.""We're dating, that's all," said Rin quickly, feeling nervous at the

question."That's all? Really?""Actually, he's my rival," said Rin with a fierce look on her face. Crystal

nearly dropped the eyeliner. "If I don't get at least a 2390 on the SAT after Ispent all my summer vacation in SAT private tutoring, I am going to kill him andme."

"Let me guess," said Crystal, dropping her head above Rin's ear. "You'relike me."

"Like you?"Crystal smirked dangerously, reminiscent of Kristian. "A..." Crystal

whispered the next word. " Sadist ."

"What! Definitely not!"Admiring the older girl with interest, Crystal muttered, "Sure you're not."***********************************************

"I can't believe you two called me before Jordan," said Jin with a sweetsmile to Jezebelle, who was sitting in the passenger seat next to him. Wendylooked tired in the back while Jezebelle looked angry with her arms folded."How was the mall?"

"Juliet called sick so she couldn't come," said Jezebelle, annoyed."What does Juliet have anything to do with it?" asked Jin, clueless."No duh, Jin Song," said Wendy, crossing her legs and sitting back in her

seat. Wendy threw her head back. "Juliet pays for us. We don't have enough

free money lying around to buy new clothes! We're broke as hell!""Cops are underpaid aren't they?" asked Jin, frowning."Terribly," said Wendy, sighing. "My dad is a good cop too. He risks his life

many times for the people of this city.""Yeah, whatever bitch," said Jezebelle, shutting Wendy up. Wendy stuck

her tongue out at Jezebelle. "I want to hurry and play tennis already. Like Iexpected, Miss Stuck Up arranged a meeting at David Shin's house in a couple of hours for all the Varsity members."

"That sounds like Yvette," said Jin, amused. "Always using David's tenniscourts."

"Can we skip Jordan please?" asked Wendy loudly, frustrated.

"I'm sorry Wendy," said Jin apologetically. "He already called me. We'realmost at his location anyways.""I have to sit in the back with him again?" asked Wendy, groaning.

Jezebelle snickered in the front. "Switch spots with me Jin Song! I drove youbefore didn't I? I'm one hell of a good driver with a dad for a cop and all! Youcan trust me!"

where Jordan promised to be, he found a crowd of people. Recognizing acouple of his classmates, Jin grabbed Jezebelle's red hat without warning andplaced it on his own head to hide his face. While Jezebelle screamed at Jin forit back, Wendy noticed who was in the middle of all the commotion.

"Are you okay Jordan Greene?"

"What happen to you?""Jordan! Your pretty face!"Getting up from the sand, Jordan laughed it off. "Nothing! I'm good.

We're cool. It was an accident. Right Roselle?""It was your fault for trying to grab me from behind," said Roselle loudly,

placing her hands on her hips. She was obviously mad. "How am I supposed toknow it's you? You might have been some pervert for all I know."

"She's so mean," cried the cheerleaders in their usual group. "Like oh myGod! Can you say tough much?"

"Hey," said Roselle, whirling on them. "Mind your own business, plastics!""Plastics?" cried the cheerleaders in outrage.

Before war could break out between Roselle and the cheerleader, Jordangrabbed a hold of Roselle's hand and told her quietly not to fight with them.The two of them tried to leave the center of attention but there were toomany people. Suddenly, they heard sirens. Afraid of the police, all of thestudents scattered. Jordan was also white in the face and told Roselle to hurryand find Jin's car.

"It's me," said Wendy, leaning against Jin's car with narrowed eyes.Jordan and Roselle were surprised to see her. "Come on. Let's go before thosepeople come back."

Once Jordan and Roselle got inside the car, they realized their mistake.Jordan was sitting in the left with Roselle in the middle and Wendy to the far

right. Wendy kept tossing Roselle suspicious looks while Roselle kept eyingWendy warily. The two girls were both tense around one another."I never thought this would happen," said Jezebelle, breaking the

silence. Jin groaned inwardly, knowing too well it would be his girlfriend to stirthings up. "The ex-girlfriend with the current girlfriend in the same car as theboyfriend in question."

"Fi," said Jin warningly, trying hard to keep his eyes on the road instead."What?" asked Jezebelle, acting innocently. "I'm simply acknowledging

how clever Jordan Greene is to test out which of his girlfriend likes him more."Both Roselle and Wendy tensed up even more at Jezebelle's words. Jordancovered his eyes in his hand. "Of course, he's also very gutsy since they might

hate him for the rest of his life..."Wendy coughed to interrupt Jezebelle. "What happened back thereanyway?"

"It's all Jordan's fault!" said Roselle immediately, punching Jordan in thearm. "He tried to do something to me from behind so I kicked him flying!"

"You..." said Jezebelle, turning around quickly."Kick him..." said Jin, tensing up as well."Flying?" asked Wendy with a dropped jaw.

Roselle scowled and wrapped her arms in front of her chest. "After I'vebeen attacked by three boys from that Pimp Juice group, of course I had tokeep my defenses up! I hear that Tristan Tailor can break my neck if I'm notcareful!"

"You've been attacked?" asked Jordan worriedly, ignoring the pain in his

stomach and his arm."Oops," said Roselle, realizing her mistake. "I didn't mean to bring thatup..."

"What happened?" asked Jin, almost as worried as Jordan."Those boys called me out to meet them...""Why did you meet them?" asked Jordan dramatically, interrupting her

and gazing intently at her. "Do you know how dangerous that is?""They told me that they got you hostage," said Roselle, screaming back

at him."That's no reason to meet them out by yourself!"Roselle punched him again in the same spot. "Look at you! You're so

weak! Of course if something happens to you, I have to go and save you! I can'tleave it to Jin Song to save you." Jin reddened at the mention of his name."He's a weakling too!"

Suddenly, the tension between Roselle and Jordan was broken byWendy's loud laughter. Wendy was laughing so hard that she had to hold ontoher stomach. Jezebelle was so used to Wendy's laughing fits that she simplyrolled her eyes.

"Are you okay Wendy?" asked Jin after Wendy stopped laughing."She is so right," said Wendy through tears in her eyes. "He's so weak.""Me or Jordan?" asked Jin when he received a smack from Jezebelle.

"What?"

"Obviously Jordan," said Jezebelle, rolling her eyes."Hey," said Jordan, offended now that he knew it was him. "I'm not thatweak."

"Yes, you are," said Roselle and Wendy in unison."Forget that," said Jordan, flushing slightly at their words. "Roselle, you

told me they didn't do anything to you. You don't usually lie...""I didn't lie," said Roselle defensively. "They didn't do anything to me."

Roselle beamed now. "You see... Parker came at me right? I ducked and kickedhim in the ribs."

"Ouch," said everyone else."Then, I kicked sand into those other two and they started running away

and I chased them down," said Roselle with a firm nod. "Sure, if it were Tristanor Eddie, I might not have stand a chance but those three weak crackers?Please . If I can survive Kristian one-on-one, I can fight anybody."

"You fought Kristian?" asked Jordan loudly."You beat up Parker?" asked Wendy at the same time as Jordan."You're Jordan's ex right?" asked Roselle, turning over to Wendy now.

Wendy agreed weakly. "Wasn't it also annoying for you to be his girlfriend backthen?"

"What?" asked Jordan in disbelief at Roselle's question."I mean," said Roselle, scowling. "Everyone picks on you everywhere you

go in school. It's like you can't do anything right without someone somewheresaying some bull shit about you. Some of them even go up to you and bully youin your face."

"What are you saying?" asked Jordan, not understanding."That," said Wendy, angry now. She stared intensely at Roselle. "Oh man!Fuck yes! It was the shittiest time of my life. Every time you're not with him,everyone would give you the look. You know the 'you're no Victoria Hopkins'look!"

"Exactly," said Roselle, edging closer to Wendy now. "You know thosechatty dumb ass cheerleaders? They're so afraid of Kristian that they wait untilhe's not around and they go up to me and push me around."

"Why didn't you tell me about this earlier Roselle?" asked Jordan, upset."It's only been like one day of school!"

"Why would I tell you?" asked Roselle, shocked. "Once you come and

defend me yourself, I'll be picked on even more! You're too much of a cowardto talk back to them anyways. I can rely on myself thanks.""Nice," said Jezebelle, amused at what she was hearing."What did you do then?" asked Wendy, interested."They think they're all that, saying crap to my face," said Roselle,

shaking her head. "I don't think they have the slightest idea that I'm the last person they want to have a verbal contest with. Even my leader Kristian stopsfighting with me now because he has little to no chance of winning anyways."

"No way," said Wendy with wide eyes."Then, there are these guys who would try to bully me by force after

third period," said Roselle, shaking her head. "I don't feel sorry for their

manhoods at all. It's better if they don't reproduce, thanks."Jordan glanced down once. "Ow...""You had a harder time than I did," said Wendy at the end of Roselle's

story. "My dad's a cop so most of them gave me disgusted look like I'm someanimal. It's still pretty hard to go through the day..."

"I never knew," said Jordan softly. "I'm sorry.""It's nothing to apologize for," said Wendy, sighing."No biggie," said Roselle with a smile. "Most of them are afraid of me

now so maybe they'll stop picking on you too!""Yeah..." said Jordan, smiling weakly at Roselle."But seriously," said Wendy, smiling at Roselle. "You're awesome. I don't

know why you would agree to date someone like Jordan but you're still cool.""The only reason I'm dating Jordan is because-"Jordan managed to cover Roselle's mouth in time before her honesty

gave out more information than necessary. "It's a personal reason.""I hate to interrupt the lovely family back there," said Jezebelle

suddenly, glancing at Jordan. "But are you into abusive women or some shit? Orare these two an exception?"

"No, actually I'm into girls with large-" said Jordan, realizing his mistake

at two pairs of angry eyes at him, neither of which belonged to Jin orJezebelle. "Large... large..." Jordan was struggling to find the right word.

"Oh! I know a good word!" said Jin excitedly, thinking that this was oneof Jordan's vocabulary games. "Posteriors? Am I right?"

"Jordan," said Roselle, turning to Jordan.

"You're so dead," said Wendy, glaring dangerously."Thanks Jin, I owe you one buddy," said Jordan sarcastically before thetwo girls started to pull him in all directions.

Jin glanced at Jezebelle. "Did I say something wrong? That's what he toldme."

"It's nice to know you'll betray your friends like that," said Jezebelle,smirking and making Jin feel guilty. "Now, tell me, green tea, what do you likein a girl hm? It's only fair you'll tell everyone here your preference since youdecide to spill your friend's secret."

"My preference?" asked Jin, clueless. He thought about it for a secondbefore he said with a smile, "I don't have a preference because Fi is perfect."

shirt on top of his swimming trunks. A couple of girls admired him as theywalked by. Unfortunately for them, Faith was not by himself so they didn'tapproach him.

Behind Faith and his female companion from a distance, Jennifer waswatching them next to Tiffany and Eunice, who were both waiting for Jin toarrive at the beach. She felt her heart beating rapidly in her chest and herthroat drying at the sight of Faith. Why was Faith with another girl at thebeach? According to the notebook, he didn't have a girlfriend.

"Tiffy," said Jennifer in a trembling voice. Tiffany stopped her search andturned to Jennifer. "She looks familiar but who is that girl next to Faith?"

"Who?" asked Eunice, bouncing up and down as usual. Jennifer pointed atthe blonde girl who had her head on top of Faith's back. "She's really pretty!Can it be his girlfriend?"

"Don't be silly," said Tiffany, following Jennifer's gaze. "And don't linger

on him.""Tell me Tiffy," said Jennifer, shaking Tiffany hard. "I want to know whoshe is!"

"If she's really his girlfriend," said Tiffany, knowing that not to be thecase since Faith had feelings for Jezebelle. "Then you have no chance withhim."

"I must know who my rival is," said Jennifer, determined."Her name is Cerina Celestine," said Tiffany, making both Jennifer and

Eunice gasped at her name. "She's the leader of his group. You probably heardof her."

"Isn't she the star in last year's play?" asked Eunice, tilting her head to

the side."The very one," said Tiffany, nodding. "She's a talented young lady. Shehas been brought up as an actress since the age of five. She has starred inseventeen plays before last year's. Also, she has enough charisma andleadership to fully control her group despite her being only a sophomore. I heareveryone in that group is very obedient to her."

"Oh..." said Jennifer, sighing in relief. "Then... she's only his groupleader. People in the same group don't usually date."

"I hate to say this but," said Tiffany sternly. "Faith has no interest indating."

"He doesn't?" asked Jennifer, tearing up now.

"I bet Cerina knows it too," said Tiffany, narrowing her eyes at the thingirl who was still resting on Faith's back and playing with his hair. "That'sprobably why she's taking advantage of him."

"What do you mean?" asked Eunice, puzzled."Cerina has a lot of admirers but she doesn't want to date any of them,"

said Tiffany, opening her notebook and picking up the pen left in there. "It'squite ironic because she's a natural flirt. She can't help it. She has a flirtypersonality and does her flirting to any guy she talks to, hot or ugly. Of course,it's awful when you think about it because some of them think they have achance with her. She's toying with them."

"Is she toying with Faith too?" asked Jennifer, concerned for her crush.

"I doubt it," said Tiffany immediately. "I've known Faith for three yearsnow. He's not stupid. He knows what she's up to. He's probably looking out forher because she's the star of the drama club and you know how much Faithcares about that club."

"Well..." said Jennifer, loosening up. "I won't give up no matter what!""Why would you go so far for a crush?" asked Tiffany, uncapping her pen

and writing down some notes. "You always have a new crush every other monthJennifer. It's nothing new. You should give up on Faith."

"I can't Tiffy," said Jennifer, placing her hands on her heart. "Not afteryou told me that he has no interest in dating. I want to be the one to changehim!"

Tiffany sighed and got up after she closed her notebook. "Once herejects you, don't come crying to me. I'm going to the restroom."Eunice waited until Tiffany was out of earshot before she grabbed

Seeing the shop up ahead, Faith hurried his long strides, feeling the painin his chest. However, he met a serious Tiffany on his way. She must have heardeverything. Faith looked down and felt his heart race. He hurt another girl. He

Climbing up the stairs, Kristian checked his cell phone again and shookhis head. Cory told him that there was some commotion at the beach andwhether he wanted to come or not. Kristian had declined even though Corytried to persuade him otherwise. Why would he want to go to the beach whenhis girlfriend was over at his house? Of course, Cory didn't know that so hereceived punishment through the phone without knowing why.

"What's taking them so long?" asked Kristian out loud before he noticedJinx peeking out from her room at him. Kristian glared at her. "Stop being nosy,Jinx." Jinx shrugged and closed the door immediately. "Jesus, I hate her."

"Kristian, nice timing," said Crystal from afar. Kristian turned his head tofind them leaving the guest room. Rin was hiding behind Crystal. "You have

good taste. What do you think of Rin Hamada now?""No, I can't," said Rin, refusing to reveal herself from behind Crystal.Impatient, Kristian went up to them and moved Crystal aside. Rin was

dressed in a white t-shirt and jeans. However, Kristian noticed the makeupimmediately. As expected of Crystal, she didn't use much makeup on Rin, butenough to see the obvious difference. Overall, Rin looked the same as alwayswith some added features. Kristian stared Rin quietly, making her blush adeeper shade of red with every passing second.

"What are you doing Kristian?" asked Crystal, upset. "Compliment her orsomething!"

"Can you give us a moment Crystal?" asked Kristian, winking at his

cousin. Despite Rin shaking her head frantically at Crystal, the younger girllaughed. "Sure. You kids have fun now."

"This is problematic, Rin-chan," said Kristian softly, moving up to her."What problem?" asked Rin anxiously, checking her clothes quickly."I was planning to take you somewhere but now after seeing you like

this," said Kristian, forcing Rin into a corner. "I don't think I have the heart toanymore."

Rin scowled. "You don't have to use fancy words. I knew beforehand Iwouldn't look good in this type of skirt anyways."

"That's not it," said Kristian, licking his lips and then rubbing Rin on the

cheek. "I don't think I can stand other boys staring at you wherever we go. Youknow how jealous I can be. I can't control it half the time.""Kristian..." said Rin, taken aback by his tone.Pulling her hard into his chest, Kristian muttered, "I can't stand seeing

Jamie smile or frown. I had never seen Jamie laugh or smile either. It was as if she didn't know how. That sounds silly doesn't it?""I suppose..." said Rin, finding this odd as well."But because of that, she was probably the most honest person I have

ever met," said Kristian thoughtfully. "I can tell when she's sad or mad or happywith just her eyes. She was an amazing person. She treated Jinx and I very wellfor many years." Kristian paused and stopped playing the piano. "It was actuallymy Uncle who I used to hate."

"Your uncle?" asked Rin, surprised."He was always so nice to Jinx. He spoiled her to death and he treated

her way better than he treated me. I realized now though that I didn't hate him

or his unfair treatment toward her. That didn't really bug me since I was arotten child to begin with. What really set me off was that she never did athing to deserve it."

"What does that mean?" asked Rin to herself more than Kristian."Ever since her mother died and Uncle took her in, she never did a thing

for him or Jamie. She was young. I didn't expect her to. But the more I watchedher every passing year the more I hated her. She was one of those children wholet everyone spoil her while she just sits there and does nothing about it. Shedoesn't get good grades. She doesn't help around the house. home. That's why I keep ditching it because the minute I step foot in here, I'llexplode and clean the whole fucking place from top to bottom if it's messy. Shedoesn't even help me with the dishes."

Listening to this, Rin thought about her life so far. She had always gonehome and study all day for her mother. She would get straight As in order toappease her perfectionism and her mother. Rin did not know how to cook. Theonly thing she was good at was making her bed and cleaning up her room. Hermother took care of everything else. Was she any better than Jinx?

"The girl who doesn't do shit... the one who gets all the attention andlove..." Kristian laughed, almost mockingly. "I hate her so much. I shouldn'thave hated Uncle back then, though I guess it was beneficial in a way."

"How?" asked Rin suddenly."I got mad at him for his unfair treatment even I did deserve it forwrecking two of his guitars, using permanent marker all over his room, andflushing his keys down the toilet," said Kristian, grumbling now. Rin laughedwhich made him clear his throat and continue. "But yeah, I was a kid and I wasmad so I thought I should show him up." Kristian smirked. "I saw him on thepiano to listen to the notes in order to tune his guitar once. The minute he wasgone, I played on top of his precious piano. I made sure to play in the mudbefore then and got all the white keys all dirtied."

"Bad Kristian," said Rin, astonished by how terrible of a child he was."But then I got a better idea," said Kristian, returning his full attention

to the piano. "What if I become a better musician than my Uncle? He's acomposer, a songwriter, a guitarist, and everything. I'm a better pianist than heis a guitarist. Now, I just need to compose and write songs better than he. Afterthat, I'll be able to go up to him and tell him that he should have treated mebetter. He treated me like I was a lost cause most of the time. I want to provehim wrong."

"Kristian, does your uncle know you play the piano?""He doesn't."Rin shifted her feet uneasily. "When are you going to tell him?""I'm waiting for the right moment," said Kristian firmly. "I'm waiting until

Kristian poked her cheek once before he held her chin. "Are you happyfor me?"

the piano too. "Then I can show it to him. I'm not planning to become aprofessional musician or anything like that. I simply want to join the Navy orthe Marines and retire and maybe pursue something else."

"You're not going to go professionally?" asked Rin, surprised. She knewsomewhere deep inside that Kristian wasn't going to expand on his gifts, butnow that she learned about his reason for playing, it only made sense that hewould do so. "Why not? You can prove to your uncle there!"

"I don't need to do that," said Kristian carefully, rubbing Rin's handsaffectionately. "It's like you and dressing up for me today." Rin was about todeny it when Kristian clapped her mouth with his hand right on cue. "I don'twant a bunch of strangers watch me play the piano and applaud me for it. As

long as Rin-chan asks me to play for her, that is enough. I only want the personI like to listen to me.""Kristian," cried Rin, forcing his hand off her mouth. "Stop saying such

sweet things!""I know that Rin-chan is unable to be cute like other girls," said Kristian

slowly, making Rin scowl. "But that is okay. I like Rin-chan for that. She's notlike other girls. Besides," Kristian licked his lips and smirked at her. "I'm so goodwith words that I can say sweet things for both of us."

"You're as pigheaded as always," said Rin, glancing away with an annoyedlook.

"That's who I am," said Kristian sadly, grabbing her small hands in his.

"This side of me... the cold side of me... the angry side... you've seen them all.I can't control my feelings around you."Gazing at Kristian, Rin knew what he was speaking the truth. It was the

same for her. She couldn't control her feelings around him. She would get angryat him for the most stupid reasons. She would act cold to him for every littlething. Even though Bo helped her confirm her feelings for Kristian, she still didnot understand what she was worst at controlling her emotions than before.Whenever he touched her, she didn't feel comfortable at all. She felt uneasy.

"What?""Every time I get mad at you, I tell you about it and we'll fight," said Rinloudly, holding Kristian against her shoulder. She thought about the time theyfought in English and did not speak to each other until after school. "Everysingle time so far. I'm sick of fighting and walking out on each other. If I actcold... if I don't talk to you... then..." Rin bit her lip and forced herself to sayit. "Then we won't have to fight over stupid things anymore!"

"Rin-chan," said Kristian, shocked. He removed his head from hershoulder. "You're... so stupid."

"Stupid?" asked Rin, outraged."Yes," said Kristian, picking her up easily and placing her on top of the

closed piano. "When you like someone, it hurts more when they ignore you oract cold to you. I should know because I always act cold around you in order tohurt you for hurting me first. I'm awful aren't I?"

"Yes," said Rin, placing her hands on his shoulder. "But thank you fortelling me. Maybe somewhere deep inside I wanted to do the same. I'm nobetter. Because," Rin closed her eyes and trembled slightly. "When I found outabout how you kept that secret from me, I hated you. I hated you so much thatI do stupid things like ignoring you. Yet, at the same time," Rin cried but shequickly hid it behind the back of her right arm. Her left hand was still on hisshoulder. "It hurts so much to ignore you. I can't stand it by the end of the day."

Kristian gazed at for a long time before he said, "Then let's fight it out

from now on. I know it's better if we're more open with one another andunderstand each other but that doesn't come until later. We still have lots of time to work out our problems. To be honest, I'll take fighting than being coldto one another."

"Okay..." said Rin weakly, nodding behind her arm."Rin-chan," said Kristian softly, grabbing a hold of that arm and removing

"Tears are powerful.They tell you lots of stories. One of which is that you still love me. After a while, Rin managed to stop crying. Her eyes and nose wereextremely red. Rin felt so exhausted. She allowed herself to fall off the piano

and into his body. With his warm body against her, she felt better."You should try it sometime," said Rin under her breath.At her suggestion, Kristian thought about how he offered to say sweet

things to her in her place because she couldn't do it. It was the same with asimple expression as "I love you". He wanted to cover her weaknesses for her.

Little did he know, he had one of his own that she had always been covering forhim. He simply didn't think about it until now. Did she herself know that shehad been weeping for both of them?

Kristian squeezed her hand and held back the emotion rushing throughhis body. "Maybe. Someday."

Against a nearby wall, Crystal frowned at what she heard.***************************************************

After a long car ride, Jordan, Jezebelle, and Jin managed to arrive backhome, exhausted. Jin opened the door for his friends as they both entered theliving room together and collapsed on respective couches. Jezebelle was upsetabout her failed shopping trip while Jordan was sore from being abused by both

his current girlfriend and his ex-girlfriend. As for Jin, he was tired too but hequickly went into the kitchen and gasped at the sight of his mother washing thedishes.

"Mom, go back to bed!" ordered Jin, pushing his mother out of thekitchen.

"But Jin," said his mother over her shoulder while he pushed her towardthe stairs. "I need to buy the groceries to make dinner for your friend that'scoming over."

"There's no need to," said Jin worriedly. Jordan heard the commotion andpeeked out to see a worried expression on Jin's face. "You've been working allnight! I'll buy the groceries and I'll cook dinner for my friend! It's my

responsibility for bringing him over. Please relax and go to sleep, Mom."Jordan smiled when she noticed him. "Hello Mrs. Song.""So handsome," said his mother, infatuated."Mom, I'll take care of everything," said Jin with a reassuring smile.

"Please.""All right then," said Mrs. Song, defeated.Standing in the same spot, Jin watched his mother climbed the stairs

and then closed the door to her bedroom before he made a mad dash to thekitchen. Curious as to what Jin was going to do now, Jordan watched as Jinopened the refrigerator and checked the contents.

"What are you doing Jin?" asked Jordan curiously, making his way over.

"Let's see..." said Jin, checking. "More milk... and eggs... and pepper..."Jordan gave up in trying to ask Jin while he was so concentrated on his work.At last, Jin nodded and stood up straight. He took out his cell phone andpunched in a list quickly. "Hey Jordan! You should rest for a bit. We probablywon't be starting on the project until much later."

"Jin..."Jordan's attempt had failed as Jin ran as fast as possible to a closet next

to the nearest restroom. Curious still, Jordan followed Jin and watched as he

checked the laundry basket. It was full. Hurriedly, Jin ran off with the baskethigh above his head. He went straight to the garage. Waiting for Jin to comeback, Jordan could hear Jezebelle turning on the television. In a few minutes,Jin emerged from the garage with no basket.

"I'm sorry Jordan," said Jin at the sight of Jordan gawking at him. "But I

need to make use of every minute possible!""What?""Let's see," said Jin, checking his cell phone. "I have exactly one hour

and seven minutes to run to the grocery story near here and back. I'll allow fiveminutes for coming in with all the grocery bags-"

"I can help you with that," said Jordan, feeling bad."No, it's fine," said Jin, smiling. "You're our guest. I'll take care of it."

Before Jordan could say anything, Jin continued thinking out loud by himself,"Then, it takes about forty minutes to dry the clothes in the other machine soI'll wash the dishes and let the water boil at the same time for the Italian food.I will also make the tomato sauce and take care of the noodles. If I have extra

time, I'll need to clean up the counters after I'm done. Then after I'm done, Ineed to dump the noodles in the water and take out the clothes to iron themjust in time to finish up the dish and..."

"Is he always like this?" asked Jordan, heading back to Jezebelle."I don't know," said Jezebelle, glancing at Jin, who was heading out the

house with calculations muttering out loud. "He's like this whenever he has toomany things to do at once or when it comes to video games."

"I'll be right back," said Jin loudly before he fully closed the door shut."I never met a boy who actually does grocery shopping in his high school

years," said Jordan, gawking at the sight of Jin driving off quickly."I never met a boy who would be stupid enough to leave his good-looking

best friend all alone with his girlfriend in his house but maybe that's just me,"said Jezebelle, smirking.At that comment, Jordan turned toward Jezebelle and noticed that she

indeed was terribly beautiful. As a boy, Jordan was of course at loss what tosay. Jezebelle did her make-up perfectly and she had this mature look that wasrare for girls her age. Even though Jordan was attracted to Jordan, the thoughtof doing anything to her never entered his mind.

"I was playing around," said Jezebelle with an evil giggle. "You're tooweak to take me down anyways!"

"I'm not weak," said Jordan defensively. "I was caught off guard that'sall."

"Forget that," said Jezebelle, turning off the television and scootingcloser to Jordan, who edged away from her. "Since I'm new to this school andyou're at the top, care to share some info with me?"

"You're climbing to the top?" asked Jordan, amused.Jezebelle smirked brilliantly. "Exactly.""I guess it won't hurt to tell you a couple of things," said Jordan, relaxing

in his seat now that he had the right amount of distance between him and her.He couldn't believe how ambitious Jin's girlfriend was but then again, he didn't

know her very well. "I believe you know it as a the social hierarchy or ladder orsomething?"

"Something like that," said Jezebelle, acting innocently."Jin probably doesn't know this because he's new and not so popular

comfortable sofa. "We actually call it the food chain.""The food chain," said Jezebelle as if memorizing everything Jordan wassaying.

"You do know what it looks like right?"Jezebelle thought about it. "Does it look similar to the food pyramid?""You actually follow that?" asked Jordan, more amused than ever."And you actually pay attention in class?" asked Jezebelle, lifting a brow."Touché," said Jordan, sitting up straight now and clasping his hands

together in thought. "Yes, precisely. The food chain is similar to the foodpyramid. There are lots of people on the bottom and few people at the top of the food chain. It's like how the carnivores are on top and the inorganic

matters are way down there.""You said 'similar'," said Jezebelle, listening intently to every wordJordan said. "You didn't say 'exactly'. What is the main difference? I get how afood pyramid works."

"The main difference is that in a food chain, there is a group that affectseverybody," said Jordan with a wide smile now. "Surely, you know whatdecomposers are?"

"Oh those things," said Jezebelle, making a face."And that is what makes our school so special," said Jordan, laughing.

Jezebelle knew he wasn't taking her seriously, which she liked since that meanthe wouldn't suspect her at all. "We don't simply have the eagle that eats the

mouse which eats the grain. We have decomposers to throw into the equationthat affects all of the above without being affected into all the dramathemselves."

"And who may these decomposers be?" asked Jezebelle to make sureeven though she figured it out on her own.

"The Asian Gossip Girls."

Author's Note

First of all, I finally introduced Cerina! I had a couple of characters talk abouther in earlier chapters but it's nice to finally reveal another character inperson. Since this was a packed chapter, I had to cut a couple of stuff she wassupposed to say this chapter. She'll say them in a later chapter. No worries! I'msad that I couldn't include her in the tournament since she appears so late butwhatever. They'll be a handful of them missing anyways.
