GoogleGlass4Museums

development of a prototype app

designed to give an interactive

Palazzo Vecchio (Florence)

the project, what is it?

Page 3: GoogleGlass4Museums @ Children's Book Fair, Bologna

how was the idea born?

• Synergy between Mubo and Vidiemme, a digital publishing start-up and a company with a proven track record in the field of mobile and wearable devices, to develop a digital publishing project optimized for Google Glass

• Mubo is now working on Santa Croce Kids, an interactive guide with augmented reality for tablets as support to the visit of Santa Croce’s church in Florence

• Vidiemme has achieved a demo for the Egyptian Museum in Turin called GoogleGlass4LIS

objective

• Establish a new approach that will bring kids closer to art venues and art in general

• New technologies are the milieu in which young people are immersed and a way to offer a new perspective and approach to art

• Device is not an end in itself, but a bridge between boys/girls and reality (museum, art venue, etc.)

• The bridge is storytelling. We create a story

objective

Page 7: GoogleGlass4Museums @ Children's Book Fair, Bologna

how

• We use storytelling to create an explorative metaphor of the place

• The goal is to let people immerse themselves in the story in a more meaningful way through the metaphor

• The aim is a bigger engagement

• We match together approaches coming from storytelling and gaming

• The narration is designed in system level, hidden items and award of prizes

how

Page 8: GoogleGlass4Museums @ Children's Book Fair, Bologna

what

• The goal is to tell the story of the lost fresco of Leonardo da Vinci's " Battle of Anghiari”

• Our idea was to draw attention to the mysteries related to this fresco

• Spy Story

• Create a user-metaphor for the user between investigator, explorer and art historian

• Offer a journey through time and places

what

technology

• Objective: to create an optimized product for Google Glass

• Brainstorming activities to define the best user experience

• Reverse engineering: a study in collaboration with

technological partners to identify the specificities of the device

• Need to fit the super powers of the device to the user: stitch

a super hero costume, which is what we called before the user

metaphor

• Create a storytelling specially designed for the peculiarities

of the device

• What we want is to offer not just a product, but an experience

deep down on Google Glass

• Google Glass is a wearable device able to respond to voice commands or gestures (tap and swipe on the touchpad sidebar)

• They are conceived for a “snack” use with short and punctual notifications: for this reason they are the perfect “companion” of the smartphone, not a replacement ….

• Google Glass is a device based on “flanked” or “overlay” reality, as they allow you to enrich the reality with text, images, video, music…
