Introduction Developed by Google X
Key people: Rich DeVaul, Mike Cassidy and Cyrus Behroozi.
Officially announced on 14 June 2013.
A network of balloons travelling on the edge of space.
Provide Internet access to rural and remote areas.

Objectives For helping with communications after natural
disasters. To assure that the connection do also have a speed. To ensure there is no part of the globe that cannot
access the web.

Features Fly between 60,000 and 90,000 feet.
Create an aerial wireless network with up to 3G-like speeds.
Solar-powered and have rechargeable batteries.
Equipped with GPS and weather monitoring equipment.
Earlier Communicated with unlicensed 2.4 and 5.8 GHz ISM bands. Now LTE.

Envelope
Made from sheets of polyethylene plastic.
Filled with helium gas.
Height: 40 feet Width: 50 feet
Parachute attached to the top of the envelope.

Solar Panels Electronics powered by an array of
solar panels.
flexible plastic laminate supported by a light-weight aluminium frame
Uses high efficiency monocrystalline solar cells
Approximately 100 Watts of power in full sun

Loon Connection Special antenna installed on the ground.
Main components inside the shell: -the radio -the antenna -Reflector
There are two kinds of communications:
Balloon-to-balloon network Balloon-to-ground station

Conclusion Wireless communication encircling entire globe is always a
boost to the Internet. This project would be considered a milestone in the era of
wireless communication. It would also make it possible to bring people back online
after disasters.
“Give a child a balloon and maybe they'll smile for a day. Give them one with Wi-Fi and the possibilities, Google hopes, are limitless.”
